View Full Version : Single-player skirmish, please?

Well, after playing (and losing) a couple of multiplayer games, I really like the game. But it would be nice if the beta had a single-player skirmish mode so that we could play a game without having to wait for someone else to join. I mean, most of the time, by the time someone joins my game, I pretty much have to get off the computer. So, if you make any beta patches, I would really like a way to test this game without having to rely on other people.
Thanks,
Aaronjw

I TOTALLY AGREE THAT HAVING TO WAIT FOR AN OPORTUNITY TO PLAY WITH JUST A 2 PLAYER MODE IS ANOYING. I FEEL ALSO AS YOU DO THAT A SINGLE PLAYER MODE WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY EFFECTIVE AT LEAST SO THAT YOUR TIME COULD STILL BE SPENT TESTING OUT THE GAME OR AT LEAST BECOMING MORE EXPERIANCED AT PLAYING THE GAME. ALSO WITH JUST THE 2 PLAYER MODE THERE WILL BE THOSE WHO HAVE PLAYED MUCH MORE THEN OTHERS AND HAVE WAY MORE PRACTICE AND EXPERIANCE WITH THE GAME SO THEY WILL HAVE THE ADVANTAGE SOMEWHAT. THEY SHOULD HAVE A HIGHER NUMBER PLAY MODE AND A SINGLE PLAYER MODE.

I assume the beta didn't come packaged with an AI, so i doubt a skirmish option would be plausible without a major patch.
What would be super handy is a general chat in a multiplayer lobby to be able to setup and coordinate games for beginners/people more interested in figuring out the races instead of just slugging it out.

That would work as well. For me, I would even be happy if there was a mode so that I could play completely alone, not even against AI, so that I could just get the hang of the build trees and such.

Just being able to play without going online, even if an AI doesn't exist and the computer just sits there not building anything, would be of great help. I get into the game, and I do not know ANYTHING about it. I do not know what my units do, how to upgrade, nothing. Just being able to figure things out in a single player mode would greatly improve beta feedback.
That is what I think, anyway.

This isn't the game, its a beta. The point isnt for you to have fun with playying against AI, its for balance and bug fixes, which are best tested against other players.
HOWEVER it would be very very good if it supported a Sandbox mode like the SupCom beta did. In that you can start a private multiplayer game, in sandbox mode, which measn you can play with just yourself to try and learn the faction and how things work.
Definatly made testing better. Unfortuantly because they decided to do beta testing when the game's being released basically (I would think that's sega's fault for forcing horrible game development deadlines, FFS PLEASE DELAY THE GAME TO ALLOW MORE TESTING!), that what we test will basically be things that will be fixed in patches. Because apparnetly sega thinks its better to release a bad game and patch later, than release a good game and delay. Newsflash: The game industry and consumers dont like the former, and prefer a good game released LATER, than a buggy one released NOW. See STALKER, that game suffered massive sales across the months after release due to being nearly-forced to release a buggy game instead of giving them more time for dev (although they DID develop the game for an extremely long time beforehand).

All I want is something like that. I always play the single player campaign before I go online, so I usually at least know the basics. But we're just being thrown online in this beta, not even a little skirmish mode so we can learn how things upgrade and work.

Hi everyone,
I would like to have a single player but that would make it so that SEGA was violating their own EULA, so this is a dream which the law will not allow for.
There is hope for everyone though.
The hope is in making friends, There is chat built into the game. When you find someone just chat with them, ask them if they want to figure out the game.
I would say that we all have this desire, and I would venture that if you chat about it profusely; that the other person will see that you want to learn and chat back, or walk over and start stomping you.
Fair is fair if they start to stomp, then you can drop out and seek a opponent who is intrested in being a beta tester, and not the leetest leet sauce who ever pwned in newbie land...

Huh? How would a skirmish mode, or just a mode that lets you sit around with no enemies and just figuring things out break the EULA?

Because then it would be possible for public display. It's not so much a violation as the current writing doesn't protect against it.
In practice, the way you word it, it's a innocent solution to the current problem. However in the world of laws and ethics, it just will not do.

but think about it, if there's no ai now, and the game comes out in a month, who's gonna test the ai? there's gonna have to be MAJOR testing of the ai. so, by delaying it, we can work the glitches out of that too. i vote for delaying it. 30 days? please, that won't get anything done. hahahahahahaha

The AI is already being tested internally. Please stop being so stupid, you're making my brain hurt.
There is no AI in the beta. The beta is not designed to test the AI. It's designed to test balance and bug issues. The AI might be used when the patch adds 2v2 support, because when one person disconnects a computer is suppose to take over (might not be in this patch though, might be Retail Only). The AI is already tested and is pretty well written according to the Developers. In fact some of the developers lost to the AI a week or so ago, and they are constantly tweaking the AI. Supposedly the AI won't even have to cheat. It has to build an economy like any other player.

Korjax makes a good point, if a sandbox mode had been inputed, it would definitely make the game much easier for testers to learn, versus people coming into try and play and learn, but then suddenly getting stomped by the other person because he/she is an :):):) and doesn't want to let the other person learn how to play the game.
