Signing into LIVE crashing the game

Hey,

Just picked up the game for the PC because I rented it for 360 and love it but wasn't thrilled with controller limitations...

Anyways, install went fine. Tried to log into live using my 360 gamercard and I get error x800705b4. No matter what button I hit after that, the game freezes. I have to alt, ctrl, del to get out. I tried making a new account, and it let me, but wouldn't let me link it to the gamercard.

I have played other games like this where I had to import my gamercard and it worked (Gears). I have an active account, pretty good machine (system isn't the problem), play many games online. I just don't know why it will not let me do this, and to top it off, crash on me.

I'm dying to get in game and play but this just isn't letting me. Anyone know how to fix this? I downloaded the update thinking it would help but it didn't.

forgot to include...drivers are all up to date. Updated them last week.

Have you contacted the LIVE troubleshooting issues people?

If it's with signing into LIVE then I would assume they'd have a fix for it (or at least be able to offer suggestions).

Sorry to hear about the frustrations. Sorry if this is redundant to what you've already tried, but I want to make sure we catch everything.

Two things -

1. I'm assuming that you're running Games for Windows LIVE 1.2, but it would be great to check this. If you're running any earlier version, you can get 1.2 here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=d6a69b9f-2aef-4125-b162-edf0ae922caf&displaylang=en

2. You say you've downloaded the update, and I assume that what you mean is the Universe at War patch? If you haven't gotten this, or if you're not sure that it installed correctly, please download it here: http://204.155.67.168/downloads/demos/UAW_Patch2.exe

Am I correct in thinking that this only happens when logging into your LIVE profile, and that all other elements of the game work fine?

Does it happen when you create an offline gamer profile?

You might also post a dxdiag so we can get an idea of what system this is happening on.

Here's how to post your dxdiag:


From the Windows XP desktop:

- Click Start
- Click Run
- In the Open box type DXDIAG
- Click OK

From the Windows Vista desktop:

- Click Start
- In the Search box type DXDIAG
- Click OK

When the diagnostic tool opens you may be asked if you want to ensure your drivers are digitally signed. Click Yes

The Direct X Diagnostic Tool shows details of your PC including operating system, specifications and drivers.

To create a text file of this information:

- Click the Save All Information button
- Browse to convenient location such as your Desktop or My Documents folder
- Enter a unique name for the file e.g. DXDIAG
- Click the Save button

You can now close the Direct X diagnostic tool.

Open this text file, then copy it all and paste it here.
