PSOBB Torrent?

So, I was thinking come May 10th, everyone's gonna want BB as soon as humanly possible. And that equals lots of downloads, which equals a slow server. And that equals sad gamers, yes indeed.

So I'm thinking an official Sega PSOBB torrent? People are gonna set up their own, yeah, but more people would be interested in jumping on the offical one, methinks.


So, are there any plans for this?

torrents suck tho for people whos ISPs block them. Multiple FTP and HTTP servers I say. Fileplanet and archive.org and such.

They should offer the torrent. With such a popular file, if you have your client configured properly you can download faster than your ISP's speed limit. Offer the torrent for those who want it, for those who don't they can use the server. The torrent would be kind to SEGA's server as well.

...not if its an EDU ISP like mine is. I never get more than 3kb/s no matter what configs i change.

I hate torrents too. I've tried downloading a few iso's using it, but I could never get more than 12kb/s at its peak. I know the speed is supposed to go up for "popular" torrents, but then what's the point of using it to get really rare files?

Perhaps you guys should read Bit Torrent FAQs to properly configure your setups. I also agree that PSO BB should be hosted on a torrent. This would greatly reduce bandwidth costs. Maybe after many people have downloaded via torrent, Sega will release it to download normally.

I agree, i think that a PSO BB Torrent will be very useful for the most of us.
Just think, if there were 1000's of people downloading the client in one go, thats gonna hurt Sega's servers!!

Cynric, torrents are made with popular files in mind. You don't download, say, the Fifth Hungarian March in B minor, performed by Yaggamarto Quetzikov on the Guadilupian stringless sitar with a torrent.

You would, however, want a torrent for something like this, where a large number of downloads are expected.

And personally, I'm firewalled, and thusly never really hit anything above 30-so kbps without hundreds of people on. Like a PSOBB torrent would be. >_>;

Mine's a network firewall. Which, due to admin's paranoia, will never have more then, say, 6-8 ports open. Evar. x_X

I think having a torrent would be very nice to take some stress off the server, besides if you can't get good speeds on BT just don't use it. O_x

It would probably be faster if someone who got the CGW demo made a torrent. People would get the game around May 10 still anyway xD.

I usually get upwards of 150kb when downloading the newest Naruto eps, so if there was a BB Torrent I'd probly get more O_OI remember seeing at least 4000 seeds and 11000 leechers on a new Naruto episode, and I doubt 15000 people will jam up the server on the very first day. Anyway, I think a torrent is always a good addition, cause it allows people to help their friends download faster if they finish first. Even if an official one never makes it, there would probably be one made by the end of that day.

[EDIT] - Oh, and if you're someone who doesn't like torrents, then simply don't use them.

pretty simple bit torrent program to use, if you find a torrent link on a website, you download it, your ABC should start auto, ask you where to put it, and voila, you are downloading.

To answer your question it takes parts of the file from various locations, therefore giving a higher DL speed than usual compared to http/ftp.

If they have something you don't, then you "leech" of them and get that part. It's sorta like the same thing as Kazaa or eMule just a lot smaller.
