This is pretty much just a rant, but this has been bothering me for a while. Read if you want, but don't complain if you really don't care, not interested, or don't agree, mkay? No one forced you to do it.
PSO:BB, so far, appears to be nothing but a straight rip from the console versions. It's like Sega played around with a glue stick and a pair of siscors. It's obvious that little to no effort was put into the PC version of PSO. The NPC dialog wasn't even at least edited! Here I am doing the battle training quest and Kireek starts talking about the DC controller. -.-
I was hoping for something new, something else to add onto this game full of potential. Sure, the lobby is different and maybe there're a few new items, but that's not what makes PSO fun, now is it? It feels like I'm playing the same game, over and over again. Can't Sega think of anything new? Are they having writers block or something? Even free games put a little more effort into their open beta and their game.
Judging from the looks of it, Episode 2 is probably going to be a rip from PSOv2, am I right? This just really drains the fun out of PSO. If you played the console versions, you pretty much know what to expect from this one. Another repeat. Where's the fun in that? Where's the excitement? It may be just me, but it's like watching the same TV show, over and over and over again. You start to crave for more, for something different, for something better! *sigh*...I know it's been said many times before, but there's so many things Sega can do to perfect PSO, but they just aren't doing it. It's heartbreaking, because I love this game so much... It was my first MMO.
Well, that about ends my rant. For the die-hard PSO fans that're willing to pay, more power to you. Because I just dont think can do it. $9 a month can go to a company that at least makes an effort to try and make their game the best it can be for their fans and players. Not to mention that I ran into some hacked lobbies that crashed my computer. It looked a lot like FSOD from the dreamcast. (Ship 1, Block 4. Ship 1, Block 5.) And when I booted it back up, there was a trojan in my PSO client. I thought Sega was cracking down on hackers more. Was I wrong about that, too...?
And that, my friends, is my rant. I'm going to enjoy the beta while it lasts, but after that...

Counter points:
1. The software is FREE, even after beta. SEGA is not charging for an old game.
2. We are getting a whole new episode as well as BB exclusive quests I'm sure.
3. $8.99 a month to pay for bandwidth and recoup the investment on BB's development. I don't think that's too much to ask.
It's a shame you aren't going to stick around. Ah well, back to playing for the fun of it.

You're have good points but remember.
The markets for this game are hardcore PSO fans and new players. They will just be doing what they need to for the "Bait and Hook". Can you really blame them? Aslong as the people are willing why not milk PSO for all it's worth.

Actually they ripped the base of the game from the Xbox version seeing as how qutting the game, the message tells you about a harddrive..something the Dreamcast does not have. Not to mention, the game doesn't save to your harddrive. :s
But that's it. They simply ripped the base of it and added ALOT of new things and tinkered around with old stuff. It's not like they just ported the Xbox version and slapped a new title to it. o_O
And no, Episode 2 won't be ripped from PSO Ver. 2 cause..it doesn't exist in Ver. 2. o_o Episode 2 came in during PSO Ep. 1&2.
You..really dunno what you're talking about, do you? >>

I think I should be asking you that question. Judging by what you just said, you probably didn't even touch the dreamcast version of PSO, did you? Not only that, but was my post talking about gameplay or the way it saves? I don't know, maybe I'm slowly losing my mind or you just don't have a clue as to what my post was about. Moving right along...

1. If the software is free, then why is there mention of a monthly fee, I wonder. Would you be so kind as to give me a link to them stating this? Thank you.
2. They say there're going to be oh so many new features, but plans change. I've been disappointed many times in the past, so now I have to see it to believe it. Not saying they're not going to, I just don't give my hopes up until it's done.
3. If they do add everything they say they're going to, then you're absolutely right. $8.99 doesn't seem like a bad deal. But seeing what I see right now, I'm not impressed. This is my opinion though, it doesn't matter anyone disagrees or not.

1. Graphics totally out of date
2. Controls are clunky couldn't even use the mouse
3. NO TUTORIAL (once I got in chat I couldn't get back to walk mode)
This game is aweful in all aspects.

I do agree the no tutorial thing is kinda bad... The battle training teach nothing but how Kireek is a KSing bast--d....>.>;

I've played PSO and PSO Ver. 2 since they were released on the Dreamcast. :P And if you looked harder into my post, you'd see that I was pointing out that you're completely wrong considering it's NOT a Dreamcast port at all. When the game saves on the Dreamcast, it mentions that it's saving on the VMU. This is clearly an Xbox updated and upgraded port considering it mentions saving on the harddrive, which is what the Xbox does however the PC version saves via server. YOU obviously haven't touched anything besides PSO on the Dreamcast considering I clearly said Episode 2 is NOT on Version 2. PSO Ver. 2 is just Episode 1. Not Episode 2.
1. If the software is free, then why is there mention of a monthly fee, I wonder. Would you be so kind as to give me a link to them stating this? Thank you.
The SOFTWARE is free. Not the monthly payments. You get the entire game FOR FREE. You don't have to go to the store and dish out $30 for the game itself.
2. They say there're going to be oh so many new features, but plans change. I've been disappointed many times in the past, so now I have to see it to believe it. Not saying they're not going to, I just don't give my hopes up until it's done.
Considering we've never been given the oppertunity to get the features because of cheaters rising up and screwing everything up, causing Sonic Team to just drop everything they had planned (alot of stuff was never brought up in Ver. 2 in the Dreamcast days).

The new stuff is PSO Episode IV, which will be available in the official release, paid version.
For the last time (I doubt it), this is beta software to test how it runs on English platform and verify connection issues and etc.

Well, I want to play it, if only so I can play online. Being too much of a loser to buy a modem for my GC (I have DSL and broadband modems are frikin' 50 bucks, and you have to do all this complicated crap with a router and stuff) and I doubt I'm unique in that respect (about half of all PSO players didn't go online). Sure, compared to my friends I'm a junkie, but it's not like I have a legit sealed J-sword or anything. Plus, I screwed up my Char data at lvl 90 and had to start all over again. If I was playing online, I wouldn't give it a second look. But a whole new episode? Makes me happy. Come on guys, nobody made you read his rant. You're the ones stupidly whining. As for those who politely point out his mistakes... I congratulate you. But so far as to it being a free game... not really. If you want Ep. 4 at least, you're going to have to shell out $30-50. (estimate). Probably. Free Ep. 1+2 is true in Japan right now.

Just a few things...
If the graphics where much better, I'd lag like a :):):):):). Also, if you want, try turning the graphic options to high end. That is if you can use the menu without complaning that it's too grey and functional looking.
Yes, it's the same as the DC version, which I really enjoyed. Oh no, I have to play a game that was good already. For free, online, as long as I want? That's awful. No, really. Woe is me.
And as people have said, it's a beta. Of course new and exclusive things are gonna come when it's finished.
I didn't know however that you only pay the monthy charge, and not need to by the game. Another plus for me!
</:):):):):)ing> People who put downers on things annoy me.
2. They say there're going to be oh so many new features, but plans change. I've been disappointed many times in the past, so now I have to see it to believe it. Not saying they're not going to, I just don't give my hopes up until it's done.
Episode IV has already been released in JPN...
Plus, it's not the same as the DC version, it's more like Episode 1&2 that came out on GCN and Xbox. That's 2 new episodes for DC vets. Plus, there's the whole mission system now, which I prefer to the old run-in-and-randomly-kill-things. At least now there's a bit more storyline in it. Which means there's more dialoge... There are also tons of new items in Episode 2 alone, don't know about 4.
But, if your looking for something totally new, just drop this and get PSU when it comes out. Personally, I don't think I'll get PSOBB, just because I have 1&2. If it's free download and you just pay a fee, I might get it over the summer, for episode 4.

Also, BB is a free download. All of the files for episodes 1 and 2 are there. As are those for episode 4. You won't have to pay to purchase it. Just the Hunter's License.

And Tsukento, it bothers me just a tad bit that you insist on talking out of your backside.
I've played PSO and PSO Ver. 2 since they were released on the Dreamcast. When the game saves on the Dreamcast, it mentions that it's saving on the VMU. Again, was I talking about the save message and the servers or the gameplay? You really have no idea, do you? Not only that, but you clearly have not touched the first DC version of PSO. It's way too obvious. Otherwise we wouldn't be having this conversation. Also,
YOU obviously haven't touched anything besides PSO on the Dreamcast considering I clearly said Episode 2 is NOT on Version 2. PSO Ver. 2 is just Episode 1. Not Episode 2.
made little to no sense. You just said that I haven't touched anything besides the DC version because you said that episode 2 isn't on version 2, version 2 is episode 1. Need I say more? Here, I'll try to make it easy for you.
The very first Dreamcast version of PSO is episode 1. Currently the only episode you can play now on PSO:BB. PSOv2 had different levels, items, ect. and was pretty much a sequal to PSO. So, I'm guessing that THAT will be the Episode2 . I'm not saying that it will be, I'm just making an educated guess. And while I'm explaining things to you, let me just point out that my post mentioned nothing about the save message or the servers, so where did you come up with that? That's what you really should be explaining.
Considering we've never been given the oppertunity to get the features because of cheaters rising up and screwing everything up, causing Sonic Team to just drop everything they had planned (alot of stuff was never brought up in Ver. 2 in the Dreamcast days).
That's nice to know, but again, you're not on the point. I talked about not expecting things until they happen. You talked about never getting features because of cheaters. See where you kind of go off track there?
And by the way, PSO is an RPG, a game where the player takes the role of someone else. Because you can play it online too, people call it a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. And when you put those 6 words together, you have MMORPG. Catching on?
If you really have no clue as to whats going on, don't try to talk like you know. Please.
Yes, it's the same as the DC version, which I really enjoyed.
This guy (minus the sarcasm) knows what he's talking about and so do I. You don't. So, stop trying to act like you do. It's sad when someone tries too hard to look or sound a certain way. It's fine that you disagree, everyone has their own opinion. But when your opinion involves statements that are irrelevent and false, that's when it becomes a bit disturbing. :|
Cojiro
05-17-2005, 04:42 AM
Aww, my poor sarcasm. XD But yes, I'll agree with you there.
Actually, I read from some official source (And no, I can't remember where, I read too much stuff on the net) that PSO BB was officially ported over from the Xbox version, with the new stuff and Episode 4 added on. This would make sense with how it mentions the hard drive and such. Doesn't bother me though. Obviously the Xbox PSO saved to its own hard drive. The PC PSO BB doesn't save to the hard drive, but it saves to the PSO server, thus it shouldn't really mention the hard drive.
PSO version 1 is Episode 1
PSO version 2 is STILL Episode 1, but with new content such as the battle mode, which introduced the two battle levels: Temple and Spaceship.
The Gamecube version introduced Episode 2 along with Episode 1. This was when the new Episode 2 levels became available, and the new characters also became available. The Xbox version came out later on.
Episode 3 was released on the Gamecube as well in the form of an online card game.
And PSO BB appears to be an Xbox port of Episode 1 and 2, with Episode 4 added on.
P.S: Get over it.

Version 2 is not a sequel of any kind. It's an upgrade. Hence the title Version 2. There were no new levels. All you had was Forest, Caves, Mine, and Ruins. That's IT. Nothing from Episode 2. All Ver. 2 added was Ultimate Mode, Lobby Ball, Challenge Mode and Battle Mode. Battle Mode had different areas similar to Episode 2, but that's it. Nothing more.

ALSO, V2 HAD EVERYTHING YOU SAID PLUS NEW DUNGEONS, ITEMS, RARES, MONSTERS, ALL OF WHICH COULDNT BE SEEN BY ANYONE THAT DIDN'T HAVE V2!! DID I SAY ANYTHING ABOUT CHEATERS DELAYING UPDATES?!! I'm tired of talking to you because you're posts are irrelevent and your facts aren't straight. The GAMEPLAY, look, GAMEPLAY, is exactly like the DC version. If you really did play it, we wouldn't be having this conversation! Plus, we're talking about something totally different than what I originally posted because you completely missed the point. Either stay on topic and have a valid point or just don't even try.
By the way, maybe you should go read any review of PSOv2 from an official game site. That'll refresh your memory "Mr. PSO veteran".
And Reiska, I never said that you had to buy the client. Because I didn't, it's not really a point. It's a fact, but not a point.

DID I SAY ANYTHING IN THAT FIRST POST ABOUT DREAMCAST PORTS OR THE WAY THE GAME FRIGGIN SAVES?!!
I'll quote you on it to show you. :O
ALSO, V2 HAD EVERYTHING YOU SAID PLUS NEW DUNGEONS, ITEMS, RARES, MONSTERS, ALL OF WHICH COULDNT BE SEEN BY ANYONE THAT DIDN'T HAVE V2!! DID I SAY ANYTHING ABOUT CHEATERS DELAYING UPDATES?!! AND MMORPG'S ARE WHEN A HUGE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE GET TOGETHER AND PLAY THE SAME GAME ONLINE!! Ugh, you're trying WAY too hard to put words in my mouth! You're COMPLETELY off topic, too! *sigh* Running out of patience.
How about actually playing the damn game? The ONLY new monsters in Version 2 are the Ultimate mode monsters. Something PSO players cannot access. PSO players cannot access Battle or Challenge mode either. That's all they couldn't access aside from the Ver. 2 only items. MMORPGs are also online games that involve ONE big world where every gets together and aren't seperated into rooms and such. If PSO were an MMORPG, there wouldn't be lobbies.
Before you say ANYTHING else, go back to the first post and quote me saying anything about dreamcast ports, cheaters delaying updates, and me calling PSOv2 episode 2 or just dont say anything at all.
Already did.
I'm tired of talking to you because you're posts are irrelevent and your facts aren't straight.
YOUR facts aren't straight. YOU haven't played Version 2. You're going by EARLY reviews that assumed there were new levels and monsters. Considering TWO people proved that Ver. 2's only real addition was Ultimate mode and that there's nothing Episode 2 related about it, it only proves your facts are wrong.
The GAMEPLAY, look, GAMEPLAY, is exactly like the DC version.
The GCN, Xbox and PC versions are all basically based off the main design of the DC versions. What's your point?
By the way, maybe you should go read any review of PSOv2 from an official game site. That'll refresh your memory "Mr. PSO veteran".
Ever see the Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut ads and site? They all mention it being a director's cut yet it's the same thing as the DC version only upgraded. In other words, you've been lied to by the company. Considering it wasn't too long ago since I last played Ver. 2 (which was two days ago), I'd know there isn't anything exactly new to the game that isn't in PSO besides Ultimate mode.

PSO:BB is a port of the XBox version.
Believe it or not, yes, the "B" button does exist on the Xbox controller, along with Y, X, and A.
Version 2 is not Episode 2. Episode 2 was first released on what is sometimes referred to as version 3 (GC/XBox).
Here's a little history lesson, since some people don't seem to get it.
Ver.1, DC. Episode 1 only. Normal, Hard, VHard difficulties only.
Ver.2, DC. Episode 1 only. Normal, Hard, Vhard, Ultimate difficulties. Battle Mode and Cmode.
PSO PC. PC port of version 2. Note, PSO PC is NOT PSO:BB
GC/Xbox. Episode 1 and 2. Normal, Hard, Vhard, Ultimate difficulties. Battle Mode and Cmode.
Episode III, GC. Episode 3 only.
PSO+, GC. Episode 1 and 2. Normal, Hard, Vhard, Ultimate difficulties. Similar to PSO EPI&II except for added offline quests that were previously online only.
Now, PSO:BB. Episode 1, 2, and 4. Normal, Hard, Vhard, Ultimate difficulties.
Arisu is wrong. Version 2 did not have "new" areas. Just "reskinned" Forest, Caves, Mines, Ruins. Temple and Spaceship were only in Battle, and as such were not new complete areas.
Episode 2 IS NOT Version 2. Episode 2 added Temple, Spaceship, Gal Da Val Island, and Seabed as new areas, which did not exist on the DC versions.
PSO:BB is an XBox port, with things like Gov quests and EP4 to be added. In no way is PSO:BB a port of Version 2. Weapon stats, drop rates, damage calculations are based on the GC/Xbox versions. In DC they were completely different. Again, BB is not a port of the DC versions.

People say this is a "port" as if you are ordering a damn pizza. The game is based on the xbox content for episode 1&2). The graphics are enhanced with high resolution textures (and you can run at the game at 1024x768 and up). Visuasl have been strengthened greatly with various particle effects like when the lighting and the Shadow and when being attacked. You can use keyboard and mouse, in addition to a game controller. PSO-BB also adds the use of "1-0" key in the upper part of the keyboard ... Team chat and team points system and more ...
I am tired of writing, just play the PC version ...

And if you don't like it, don't play. It's as simple as that.
That being said, no one who is new to this game or only played the DC version 1 game should judge PSO Blue Burst in its current incarnation. What we have available is just that, PSO Version 1 lacking Hard and Very Hard. The full game is much more expansive. Do you judge a book based on Chapter 1 alone? I think not..

Yea Arisu, Episode 2 is a whole new PSO world within another. EpII is a ton of fun. Since it's obvious you never played the EpII lvls, I'll tell you that you wont be dissappointed.
