View Full Version : Favorite Sega games?

What are a few of your favorite Sega games (aside from PSO, of course )
Of course, I ask this so I can tell you some of mine :D:
Space Harrier : This was the game that sold me on the Master System all those years ago. However much I loved that version, nothing could top the pure arcade experience. The music, the graphics, and most of all, the blisteringly fast gameplay.... I still play Space Harrier 32X on a fairly regular basis. I bought the Sega Arcade Classics on the PS2 specifically for the Space Harrier update. While that version is cool (even with the blasphemies of adding laser lock-on and smart-bombs) it comes nowhere near matching the blitzkrieg speed of the original.
Rez : I cannot overstate how much this game rules. It is a perfect fusion of shooter action with trance music. I've played through it literally dozens of times, and many times I discover nuances of gameplay I hadn't noticed.
Other favorites:
Panzer Dragoon series (boy, I really dig those third person shooters)
Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram (I have two DCs connected with twin sticks on each for play- Virtual FapFapFapFap)
Zillion (The Master System equivalent of Metroid, IMO)
Herzog Zwei (technically a Technosoft game, but Sega published it. It still rules)
Phantasy Star (I hope and pray some online version of Phantasy Star will let you play as a Dezorian)

Virtual ON, love robot action game, and Fei-yin is just sooo cute XD
NiGHTS, if it's not for my stupid screwy saturn official memory cart, I would have played it longer, but the game was perfect.
Sakura Taisen, same reason above.
Rez, just wow... Even a music idiot myself can make music now.

I had some problems with my Saturn cart too... I remember Panzer Dragoon Saga HATED it.

On Sakura Taisen, everytime I get to stage 3 or after, my cartridge would corrupt it's saves, so I have to restart... Worse for NiGHTS, it wiped my saves 4 times when I was at the last stage... So I just gave up.

--> Every Sonic ever made (is there a bad one?)
--> Nights (I only played it once and it ruled!)
--> PSO (of course...)
--> Knuckles Chaotix (This is like the game that fascinated me in my childhood)
--> Rez (I wish I could still get it... I am full of regret right now ) :(
Say, as anyone played Kolibri on 32X here? I'm just curious what is was like playing it!

Pretty much anything Sonic Team has churned out over the years, namely the Phantasy Star series and the Sonic series. I've never had a 32X, Sega CD, Sega Master System, Game Gear, or Saturn, though, so that leaves all Sonic/PS stuff on the Genesis and Dreamcast, plus every Sonic Team game for GCN.

I like most Sonic games. My favourites were Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast, Sonic Advance 2, and Sonic 1 for the Master System. However, they really made Sonic Blast for the Game Gear a bit... dreadful.
PSO is great, and I loved Ep III as well.
And you can't forget ChuChu Rocket.
Nights, Virtual On and Panzer Dragon Saga. That's where it's at.
Not a huge Sega fan, generally, haha.

Some of them are obviously sega, and others appeared on SEGA consoles.
Phantasy Star Series- First RPG series I got into as a youth.
Crusader Of Centy (Genesis)- This was sega's version of ZELDA..not many know of it. It rocked.
Gunstar Heroes (Genesis)- This game was just awesome. Why the sequel which was named "Gunner's Heaven" never came out for american consoles on the PSX is still a mystery to me.
ESWAT (Genesis)- A little known side scrolling shooter-beat em up-whateverthehel. Its great.l
Altered Beast- WEEEEELLCOME TO YOUR DOOOM! It was one of the launch titles for the Genesis, and you could get it in a bundle pack, if you didn't want the bundle pack featuring Sonic.
Streets Of Rage 2- Beast beat-em-up game. period.
Panzer Dragoon Series- It was a great Saturn title.
Toejam & Earl- You got to beat up Santa Clause. Nuff said.
Black Belt- Someone has to remember this game. It would go from a beat-em-up game into what was the beta of STREET FIGHTER when it came to boss fights. The boss fights were great.
Ghostbusters For the Master System- If any of you remember this, i want to make love to you--or maybe not. Basically you had to purchase the ECTO-1, and save the city from the stay-puff marshmallow man. if he stepped on your headquarters, it was game over. Classic.
Hang On- I got this for the SEGA master system, and I played he crap out of it until i could finally beat it.
Afterburner- Gorgeous. Just gorgeous for it's time.
Penguin Land- Protecting your egg as you go down a long-:):):) stage, defending it from polar bears and friggin avalanches. LOL.
Kid Chameleon- Oh, come on. it's KID CHAMELEON.
Chakan- Chakan > Metroid. Bottom line.
SHINING FORCE SERIES- This game made way for a lot of strategy/rpg games of it's kind. It was definitely ahead of it's time, and the graphics were beautiful considering when it was made.

I played Kolibri! "Arguably the best hummingbird shooter on the 32x..."
It was really cool- it had the style of Psygnosis at their prime and played a bit like Ecco (no surprise since it was by the same team).
Ghostbusters on the SMS was great! I remember that being so much fun and the NES Ghostbusters (a different game) sucked big time. I remember Ghostbusters on the Genesis being quite an addictive little game too.
Any Panzer Dragoon fans owe it to themselves to play Panzer Dragoon Orta. Wait, change that to OWN Panzer Dragoon Saga. Buy/steal an XBox if you must. You must play this game. I wanna tell you the secret of Orta, but I can't.................... let me just say, it's very very cool!

I've played some of the SF games and those were a lot of fun, which shows that you don't need a lot of high powered graphics and other gadgets to make a good game. ^_^

Really odd, but Samurai Jack was a good game by Sega.I don't know why, it was just...Addicting.>>
Another good game from Sega(Not fully, but pretty good) was F-Zero GX.

Ah- another one of my favorites is a Mega Drive game named "Crying." It's a bit like a 2-d precursor to Panzer Dragoon. Cool sci-fi designs, charge-up guns, great music. It came out in the US as "Bio-Hazard Battle," a name that has none of the original's artful minimalism.

virtual on series is really cool, sega does 3d really well
also vectorman 1 and two, they might not be sega games but they were on the genesis and a real joy to play
and stellar fire on the sega cd, the 3d is just horrid, but back in the day
that was the game to play!!!

Sonic 3 & Knuckles - not just the best Sega game, but probably one of the best games ever. I so want to play it again :P
Apart from that, other good games on the Megadrive/Genesis were Gunstar Heroes (best...game....evar!) and Crusader of Centy. That was pretty cool, never finished it though.

I went threw a huge Sonic the Hedgehog phaze where i basically tried to track down every sonic game ever made.... i got up to 30 then quit due to lack of funds, ive still got them all though, and its a wonderful little collection now.
Out of all of the Sonic games ive got, id have to give the winners prize to 'Sonic CD', it combind the elements of the orginal with nice little touches but really didnt mess around with the idea too much, the outcome was awesome.
Sega games in general? other than pso id have to give credit to Skies of Arcadia, Nights (a game that boarders close to art) and Gunstar Heroes (one word, FUN) aswell as the SoR trilogy, to which i own all three chapters :D:D

Virtual On: Cybertroopers (a.k.a. Operation Moongate) is by far my favorite, but any VO game in the series would suffice.

Phantasy Star I-IV. SOnic 3 and Knuckles, Sega Channel (not a game but a device that goes in the genesis cartridge slot and connects to a database that has about 50 games a month or two week period). Shining Force I & II, and Pulse Man.

Is it that none of you played it?
