We already knew that Anakin was going to turn into Darth Vader way before Episode 1 was even produced.
And the Chancellor's true identity was never a mystery considering that his hood was only hiding his eyes when he first appeared in Episode 1. And the voice too..... who can't guess?
NO
It was too obvious to even say that guessing is the bestthing the viewers can do.
Besides those two most key areas....
*SIGH*
Commercialism
And modern filmmaking....
Well....
I guess just sit down and enjoy the film
Don't analyze it
Or you'll see what real garbage the Star Wars prequels really are.
Like Vader said:
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"

Ofcourse this came out a while ago, but i only recently got a chance to see it, but it was a bad screener, but i'll live with it.
First of all, it's a fun movie to watch. Watched it twice in a row, i was just having a good time. While it's a good movie, some parts of it just don't seem right. It's complaints, i'll be honest. Heres my thoughts on the movie.
TOO much focus on the loss of the Senate and Republic into the Empire, and too little focus on the transision of Darth Vader. While the last movie was bringing in alot of the questions concerning the state of the Republic, I felt it also was starting to show the transition of Vader. The problem with this new film is that the film focuses alot on the transistion.
For example, the openning space battle is sorta wierd because i didn't feel any need for it yet, perhaps mid way thru, but not now. But the battle presense is understandable and perhaps needed since there won't be a big chance for it later. It's a big way to open up the movie, but i didn't feel a full use for it so early. I could see it later on, but not quite so early, but i guess Mr Lucas really wanted it now.
Another thing i didn't like was General Greavious. Yeah i saw the little mini episodes they had on Cartoon Network, but there, he's a TOTAL :):):):):):). Here he seems so unneeded in the movie, his presence doesn't make any real difference in the movie, except to prolong the story. Even his death is dumb, so why have him at all.
Next, Love story? I keep hearing people say that theres a love story in the movie but i don't see it. If your talking about the cheap stuff that Vader and Pademae have, that's really annoying to watch. "oh i love you".. "i know..." "we'll be together..." i swear that's all they say. A lot less of that stuff would have made it more entertaining for me. I already got the feeling of there relationship from the second movie, if you made it seem like it was still there, i would have believed it. here it seems like they are doing it just to remind you that they really are together.
Next, Vader is a Pawn. The original trilogy (4, 5, & 6) make Vader out to be a :):):):):):). Which is what he is suppose to be. Never at anyone point did i feel like Anakin was Vader. Anakin was so whinny that i didn't want to feel anything for him. Yeah he does some mean stuff, but not in a :):):):):):) sorta way. Anakin doesn't look made, he looks like he's frowning really hard half the time when he's angry, and he's suppose to sound confident, he still sounds scared. But more on the pawn business. I understand how he went to the darkside, i like that, but it never felt like he was in the Darkside so much as working on the darkside as a part time job. Red lightsaber anyone? I say they should of had Obiwan steal his original lightsaber before there big battle, and have Anakin pull out a red one, that would have been more :):):):):):). The third movie doesn't make Vader look like a :):):):):):), it makes him look like a pawn who's trying to convince himself that he's evil.
Also Anakin is Obiwan's :):):):):). You'll notice that Obiwan just cuts off Anakin's left arm, and both legs. JUST THAT? And then he gets burned? I imagine you can fix something like burns, Is a suit really needed for that? Anakin was still :):):):)ing alive when they were making him in to Vader, he didn't appear anywhere near death. What would have been better if he got stabbed and :):):):)ed up more. Like half his left shoulder taken off, stabbed somewhere on the right side, and perhaps one of his legs could have been cut off entirely, not at the knee. I would have believed the need for the Vader suit, but i don't believe he needs it right now.
Planning for the future. I'd like to say that the movie doesn't leave much room for future planning in the original trilogy. When Pademae has the babies she names them Luke and Leia, which is suppose to happen. But now that makes alot of stuff in the later movies NULL AND VOID. Like Vader telling luke he's his father. Now when i you see that, your like, "Yeah that so his father, even i knew it." You just took all the dramatic effect out of the best part of "Empire Strikes Back". Also now we know that Luke and Leia are siblings. I wouldn't have done that. Perhaps leave it out where Pademae is FOUND dead because Anakin killed her. While recoving her body, she was able to fart out the two kids. And they were taken to their respective worlds. Not ever really saying who they were. yeah it would be obvious, but then you could say... "Oh well how do you know, the movie doesn't say they are the same person."
The movie set stuff up okay for the next movie, but it never seems like you are suppose to watch it from episode 1 -> 6, but instead from 4 -> 6 and then from 1 -> 3.
My favorite part of the movie. First when Anakin is killing all the young Jedi and basically :):):):)ing everyone up in the second half of the movie. I remember watching it and thinking, "NO, Don't do that.. It's so MEAN and EVIL!.......... do it again." Like i wanted to see him become even more evil, cause i knew that was the direction he was going to. I best described it as an "Orgy of Evil!"
The other part was when they were building Vader, putting Anakin into the Vader Suit. I would have been more content with having my version of :):):):)ed up Anakin, but seeing him put together was cool. Best part was when we saw the helmet being put on to Anakin. It was like he didn't want it on. And then that first breath.... AH sent chills down my spine! Still does.
But having him scream like a little :):):):):).... "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" not :):):):):):).
This movie is a fun movie to watch, but it doesn't show confused Anakin's progression into being :):):):):):) Evil Darth Vader. I would have like a better focus on that instead of everything else.

well, I recently got to finally see this movie as well (the other night actually ^^). On the part of why Ani would need the Darth suit, think of it, he gets his legs and other true arm sliced off, left for dead next to volcanic river, on the steaming shore of said river. The steam would be very poisonous, methane or something? ... anyway, he gets burned to high heck, including his lungs from the extreme heat. using the dark side of the force, keeping himself within an inch of death. the suit would thereby allow him to breath the poisonous air that his lungs now need to survive...
Now, that's just my personal opinion of why he would need the suit.
The other parts of the story, ya... I believe they could have left out some things.. but remember, seeing as we've seen 4-6, we already knew that ani would get someone pregnant ... we already knew that the kids were going to be separated, and we knew that ani was going to go to the dark side ... we knew somehow that obi wan was going to be on the same planet as luke, and of course that Yoda was going to be on his own little plannet in exile so to say.

first...Lucas didn't direct this movie..
He only directed the episode 4 movie and wrote the rough copy of all 3 trilogies.
Second...
it makes perfect sense to see anikan -> darth vader. Anikan is a good guy and has always been and was even at the end of his life in ep6. I think the "basass" vader is from him just turning it off and being :):):):)ed at himself and the people he cant do anything about.
Think about it...You are completely see you mentor turn away from you, the people you trust most betray you, you kill you only love, lose your future children, lose your arm, legs, hair and are permenantly scarred. You also are forced into wearing a suit and as your first mission you must kill the very children you helped teach and grow up.
Then you are left for 30 years stewing in this pot....yeah your gonna be one mean SOB lol.
The only real problem is that people are comparing SW:t2 with SW:t1 and they are both different stories and times. I thin they should have a mini-series for those 30 years to see the evolution of vader..

First of all...
The guy who acted as Anakin was
UGH
Okay back to topic
>Episode I started all the stupidity
Anakin was waaaay too young
Comercialism calls for a "cute" Anakin actor
Sooo.... THE GOT A LITTLE KID FOR THE PART!!!
Funny how Queen Amidala fell for him
Qui Gon is one worthless character
He was just.... there
I think his only purpose was to die so that Anakin would go in the picture
Darth Maul was no different
Just there to show off some flashy lightsaber thingy
And POOF!! -- dies
Then there was..... the Dark Sith Lord
Which was executed in a really really stupid way
He was shown in Episode I as a *cough*mysterious*cough character
He was wearing a hood that's enough to cover his eyes....
But was that enough to cover his identity?
The parts of the face that could be seen...
The voice...
It was so obvious..... PALPATINE!!!!
As for the plot....
Really stupid.
The only thing that's significant was
ANAKIN GOT IN THE PICTURE
>Now on to Episode II
I think this may very well have been the Episode I
Because I don't think Episode I was even needed at all
Doncha think?
Here, there was an improvement in storytelling.
I think that's fine considering nothing happened in Episode I
Not much I can say besides the Anakin actor (.... LOL)
Yeah an improvement over the first film....
Which dug a really deep hole.
>EPISODE III (I watched it on opening day) !!!
Hmmm.... flashy opening battles
Fastforward to where Anakin kills Douku (sorry if I misspelled that)....
Isn't Palpatine's identity obvious yet?
And the Anakin actor strikes again with the Emmy Award-winning acting.
So what about the Chancellor and Anakin's relationship?
They say they're close....
But I don't think this relationship was not well told in the story
It ended up being so unbelievable.... resulting in it being absurd.
Let me get off Anakin for a bit.
Chewbacca's appearance was really unnecessary
And the death of the Jedi's we're all stupid.
I mean if they could sense the Clone Factory on a far away planet,
Why couldn't they sense a gun pointed at their backs?
Back to Anakin...
"What have I done!!!?"
*joins Darth Sidius a second later*
WTF!!!?
Anakin's stupidity starts here.
Because his relationship with Palpatine was not well explained,
I think his behaviour was laughable....
He kills Jedis
He kills Younglings
He joins the Dark Side....
WTF!!!?
It became so stupid that....
It started to feel like the movie was targetted to little children.
Then the last parts.... WHICH WERE ALL STUPID I THINK
> Leia and Luke's relationship are now no longer a mystery...
> ... and the same goes with Vader and Luke's relationship (So the classic "I am you're father" lost it's impact)....
> .... and IMO I think Vader shouldn't have been revealed in the prequels at all. That's just just just stupid if you really analyze it really hard enough.
What a mess....
Grab the original Star Wars Trilogy
Ignore the prequels...
And a message to Western filmakers:
"You gotta treat the audience with more intellectual respect"

Iwould have to agree with you. I for one, detest star wars with the most passionate feelings. Altought i can recognize a good movie when i see one, episode 3 was by far the greatest of the new trilogy.

Yep. Episode I & II suck compared to Episode III.
But that doesn't say much, because they all pretty much sucked. Dialogue, acting, plot, character development, character dynamics, etc, all sucked bad.
The only good part about the trilogy was watching Yoda fight.

first...Lucas didn't direct this movie..
Sorry, wrong.
Lucas directed ALL three prequel movies.
Back in the day, he directed Episode IV, and got blasted for it. He let other directors do V and VI, which is why they were clearly superior.
But now, with Star Wars being the big franchise that it is, and having decided he was going to make the prequels, he also decided he'd direct them all, and critics be damned. And that's what he did.
The stilted dialogue, cardboard expressions, cheesy dialogue, etc.? All George Lucas' signatures. Actors joke that his only directions to them are "faster, more intense".
Then again, someone was pointing out Obi Wan's and Anakin's lines seem odd because the actors where attempting to use the same speech rythms as their counterparts in the original trilogy (Alec Guinness for Obi Wan and Jamers Earl Jones for Darth Vader). When I get the DVD, I'll try to see if that's true.
As for the Emperor being Senator Palpatine, it's been known since like Episode VI. Pretty much everybody who saw the original trilogy on teathers knew of this, and in fact the only things that we didn't know were the specifics, like what were the clone wars about, how did Palpatine hook Vader and stuff like that. Even the fact that Vader was left mangled by Obi-Wan was known (though it was said he actually fell in fire/lava, as opposed to just catching fire).
I liked the movie. It's certainly better than Episode I and II, and ranks right there with the original three, though Episode V still has it beat, and is the best of them all.
Now to wait for the TV series with a mixture of hope and dread :)
