When I first started playing, I joined Tarakia. I wanted something simple. Then I looked at the control amount. 4%.
I didn't think much of it. We could fight back, right? It wasn't zero. I went into the shop, no parts. This kinda sucked.
Tarakia got wiped out. Boo hoo. I joined Sal Kar. Kinda liked it, but I wasn't in a decent squad, so couldn't really do much on that end. I liked the play style and the parts.
Sal Kar got wiped out, and I could have fought a Guerilla war, but at that moment, I had a nice chat with the leader of a Morskoj squad, and kind of hit it off. Got invited, so I joined Morskoj.
We are a highly organized squad, and each member has no problem trading parts for nothing, just to improve eachother. That's why I joined Morskoj. I could not give a crap about their heavy parts. Or their big guns. I wanted some good teamwork that I had heard about before.
So, as a newbie, would you rather have no parts, or try out a new nation? It doesn't matter this far into the game now, and money buys loyalty now. However, just starting out, you want some security. So stop calling "TRAITOR" and all that noobish crap. 9/10 times, you can be assured that it was new player curiosity.
