Has there been any info released on how item drops will be handled this time around?

Apologies if it's been mentioned here before, I've been well and truly out of the loop.

I'd frankly like to see a fairer system introduced.

Last I heard it was the same as pso with little item icons.

I saw someone playing and he was just picking up items which dropped, like PSO. Maybe it randomly assigns a rare to a person, Need & greed like WoW is the best IMO.

Yeah my brother plays wow and the need or greed roll seems like the fairest way, if it's respected.

Giving rare drops to a random player sounds more appealing to me than the keeping the old PSO system, the only way I've experienced the drop system working fairly in PSO is playing on JP servers.

From the small amount of time I played WoW (k thanks 10-day trial, saved me money from buying that crap :o ) I believe it's just a little number generator, you type /roll or something and a message comes up <username> rolled ____. Just allows you to decide who gets drops if everyone is playing fairly and follows that 'custom'.

Oh, and forgive me if that is completely and utterly wrong, I didn't play the game much and that's the only thing I ever noticed that had to do with rolling to determine who gets an item.

If you have 'need or greed' on as the party loot system, when an item appears of a certain rarity or higher (usually green), a box will appear on the screen with the item, a timer and three options - need, greed and pass.

Need is if your character (and note, your character and not an alt) will use/equip the item. Greed is if you want the item but the character won't use/equip it (say for auctioning, or disenchanting). Pass is pretty obvious really.

Then the game rolls 1-100 for each person participating, basically higher need > lower need > higher greed > lower greed > pass. In other words, if someone selects need and you select greed you have no chance of winning, in fact I don't think the game even bothers to roll for you.

The only problem with such a system is people rolling need on items they obviously don't need, like a Warrior rolling on a Staff with +Int and +Spirit mods for example.

Umm isn't everyone pushing need than? Seems then you have the highest chance of getting it.

Well... no, because although I can imagine a lot of this community doing it the WoW community seems to be a bit more decent.

I've never really seen any incidents where someone has rolled need on an item they don't in fact, need. Probably because they will get called out and pariahed for it. It's just common sense.

The point of need and greed isn't 'having the highest chance of getting the item' at all, so you kinda miss the point anyway. It's to ensure that the item goes to those who need it - while giving anyone who needs it an equal chance of getting the item. If you don't need an item for that character you don't roll need, it's that simple.

If you do [edit for clarification: roll on an item you do not need] you are a ninja and a moron.

It's a good system and I'd like to see it in PSU, so long as it doesn't get needlessly abused - of course it is somewhat based on trust since there is nothing except your own decency and selflessness stopping you from rolling need on an item you don't need. Then again there isn't really a perfect system, I think a range of options are needed - like Free For All, Master Looter (where someone controls who gets what), Party Loot (where item drops would be assigned on a random or round robin basis) etc. etc.

Maybe need and greed can come in for rare drops.

Hmmmm.....I actually hope it stays the same as the drop system of PSO. Sure, morons can run along and loot your ubers you've been hunting for months, but that is why you should just get to know a group of trustworthy friends and play with them alone when hunting.

For example, everyone that I run PoD with knows that I'm hunting a Lame, so if it drops, I will be 100% sure they will let me have it.

Now, if you do not play with the same people habitually, I do understand how this may not seem like the best system....
