No you cant. Also because of this, the Xbox can only send digital audio to a reciever via HDMI and not Digital Optical.

No, wrong.

Don't know about the video signals, but digital sound via optical is simple fix:

hope that solves something for U

Actually you can...I have this option set for both of my systems. I would say that you probably will not be able to send video via component cables if you are using HDMI for sound.

HDMI does wierd and crazy things to equipment. For instance...I thought it would be cool to play satellite radio through the cable box...but...whenever the cable box detects the TV off (through the HDMI), the cable box will turn itself off. I might be able to fix this...but i am pretty sure that there is no setting that would cause this to happen.

I don't think the xbox cable will fit with the HDMI cable plugged in. I tried it and it wouldn't fit.

That is the correct answer...I forgot about that one little point...but then I now remember visiting amazon for the $20 used HDMI M$ kit.

hmm...??

what was the difficult part in this:

many my friends has this configuration. It has both cables connected HDMI and Component.

Component connector (stripped) is for the digital sound optical cable plugged into the Surround amp. That works perfectly for the sound.

A good standard HDMI cable is plugged directly to TV-set.

I don't know about component cable video signal is from that setup.

hope that helps a bit...

I just use hdmi for everything and pump it through an Onkyo receiver that actually decodes the signal instead of just passing it through. I get great results. I have to listen to everything in surround sound.

I'm going to give this a try tonight. My issue is that since I made the move to HDMI I can no longer use my Aver Media capture card since it requires component.

I hadn't thought of trying to use both HDMI and component from my 360 until my 360 died and was sent to MSFT to be zombied.

Now that it's returned I'm going to have to give it a shot and see what happens.

I have my HDMI from my 360 running into my 50 inch Samsung DLP HDTV, so I get sound and picture into my HDTV. I also use my component cable plugged into my 360 to get the optical audio into my Onkyo reciever for sound through my surround sound system when I want surround sound on. :D

I got the Elite which came with the :):):):)le to fit the optical output with the HDMI cable. I bought a second one used from amazon.com for $20 for my other pro.

I have no need for Component video at the moment. See ya
