Sammy Corp. Buying out SEGA

Sammy has announced that it plans to buy 22.4 percent of Sega shares, revealing that a buyout may be on the horizon. Although Sammy is most known for its Pachinko game machines in Japan, having Sega as a subsidiary would enable the company to get a firm foothold in the video games industry. The 45.33 billion Yen ($422 million) purchase would make Sammy Sega's largest shareholder.
The move to purchase shares follows a public fiasco where Sega refused to merge with Sammy, citing that they "lacked synergies." This infuriated Sammy, leading to the resignations of Sega President Hideki Sato and COO Tesu Kamaya. In spite of Sega's lack of interest toward a merger, Sammy has continued to move towards acquiring one of the most well known video game publishers.

"In the future, we may take an additional stake in Sega," said Sammy president and CEO Hajime Satomi at a press briefing on the acquisition. "We won't rule out the possibility of making [Sega] a subsidiary." Satomi is expected to take a seat on the Sega board at the earliest opportunity.

Despite their rocky past, according to Satomi, the talks with Sega's senior management were "positive," saying that he was "confident that we will be able to cooperate in a friendly manner." Sega also released a statement stating that the two companies had agreed to work together for the benefit of Sega's future business development.

Regardless of whether or not Sammy completely buys out Sega, the Sega name would likely live on for brand name recognition, especially with it's popular line up of arcade games like Virtua Striker in Japan.

I highly doubt Sammy will buy out Sega. They may merge like Square Enix did. But, to say that Sammy will buy out Sega is ridiculous.I heard about this last month on Gamespot and there hasn't been any new developments of the story yet. True, GI wrote an article about it, but they are just regurgitating what GS and IGN posted.

I voted yes too. When you really think about it Sammy is not that bad. Guilty Gear is a kick you know what game. When two companies merge it's usally a good thing. Whoever said Nintendo should buy Sega I say Heck Yeah. Nintendo and Sega together would be an unstoppable force.

If nintendo did buy sega sega would change. But sammy have always been very lenient. If Nintendo merged with SEGA then sega would become meerly a development studio for Nintendo. Nintendo would force SEGA to develop for nintendo hardware only. Sammy are allowing SEGA to develop for all platforms still and are heavily encouraging development for Sammy's arcade boards. I dont think the SEGA SAMMY merger will be bad at all. So what if the name changes. It's still Sega and it's still sammy. An best of all they are keeping their labels for different titled. Titles developed by SEGA will display the SEGA emblem. Titles developed by Sammy will display the Sammy emblem. But both emblems will become registered trademarks of SEGA SAMMY holdings ltd

i know sammy wont buy out sega so i voted no way but just listen to this and think about this if sammy was to merge with sega even thoe i think that would suck so much there cooled be 50/50% that sammy would force sega to make a new system and to bring back nights into dreams i mean common us sega fans want sega systems back i know i do i was hopeing they would merge with microsoft and call the next xbox the sega xbox and call microsoft microsega and they could share sonic and halo now thats also and idea so i hope in the futre bill gates trys to do that i know ill vote yes then sega will be big again

ummm...hello? SAMMY already has bought out SEGA. SEGA and SAMMY are both now owned by SEGA SAMMY HOLDINGS, SEGA will keep their logo and so wil SAMMY, but SEGA SAMMY HOLDINGS will be underneath them and MS would never merge with SEGA and be called MicroSega...MS is waayyy too big + a while back SEGA refused an ofer from MS for a buyout...so did Nintendo. I'd love to see a new SEGA system but frankly, that wont happen coz if one ever is bought out then it will be SEGA SAMMYs

yeah your proably right well atleast nintendo will finish off sony but i hope its sega cause i love sega and always will and i know it is dead in systems but the first party games they have like sonic well i mean now 3rd party will bring sega coneles to life soon hopefully it does

SEGA now have the fundings to make a console thanks to SAMMY, and all SEGA studios are coming back to SEGA, they arnt seperate anymore (just like the old days) and the studios dont have to fend for themelves (They will get money given to them) so they can concentrate on games more and not have to worry about debt.
