Tufty Discussion: I love the way Nintendo is shaping up

It's taken a lot of different approaches to keep it's profits high, the fans pleased, developers interested in their systems, and a steady stream of hardware sales flowing.

Nintendo seems to be doing the right thing in order to stay in the video game business for a long time, here is my view on their steps:

a) They have taken steps to mend broken relationships with developers
In the N64 days, developers avoided Nintendo like it was a case of SARS. But in this GCN era, Nintendo has realized they will be much better off with help from various third parties. They have mended relationships with Square Enix, which shows to have a promising future with Nintendo. THey have gotten on good terms with Capcom, who has given them exclusive REs, and other great innovative titles such as Viewtiful Joe, and Killer 7. NAMCO seems to be the next RARE, collaborating with Nintendo on franchises, providing EXCELLENT exclusive content like DOnkey Konga, Baten Kaitos and Tales of Symphonia. Nintendo has taken steps to work with Konami, and are continuing to do so on another project later on. Not to mention they have become almost best friends with SEGA (which I might add, sells the most games on GCN)

b) They have taken steps to keep the Gamecube and GBA selling strong
Game Boy Advance has been a bulldozer in terms of power in the handheld market, so Nintendo never had to worry about it. And yet they still released a very cool and stylish GBA SP to settle problems with backlighting. They have produced various price cuts on Gamecube to make sure it keeps a strong following in sales, which has now reached 14 million units worldwide.

c) They have made sure there is quality games for Cubers to buy
GCN Mario Sunshine, Zelda Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil RE, Skies of Arcadia, Sonic, Soul Calibur 2, 1080, Mario Party, Mario Golf, F-Zero GX, Mario Kart, Eternal Darkness, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Zelda Bonus Discs, Pokemon, Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos, Phantasy Star, Donkey Konga, Viewtiful Joe, Star Wars Rogue Squadron and more.
GBA Metroid Fusion, Zelda 4 Swords, Mario and Luigi, Mario KArt, Fianl Fantasy, Golden Sun, Lufia, Castlevania, Advanced Wars, GT Advance 3, F-Zero, Earthbound, Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Kirby, Mario Advance, Crash, Spyro, and tons of others.
Nintendo is just getting quality games on their systems, and I love it!

I just love the way things are turning out for NIntendo. And with the Nw Nintendo DS coming (which developers seem very excited for *www.ningc.com*), Nintendo can't help but last. This is just my opinion, what's yours?

LOL...sorry but a) is completely doesnt make sense, just take a look at the games that's missing on the GC and you'll know what i mean, where's Baldurs GateII, Hitman2, Driver, Burnout3 for the GC????? if you think they're doing a good job then you're obviously in your own fantasy world....even Capcom's Killer 7 is not exclusive anymore, Namco didnt even gave GC games like Kill.switch, and DeadtoRIghts2 is not even going to GC....lol....so to say that the GC support has improved is just plain bogus......lol....

Waterking, very few peeps share the same optimisim but there is no doubt, it's a HUGE improvement (hardware wise at least) compared to the dog days of the N64, but compare it to the competition there' facing now, you' realize that there's a need for MORE improvement.

Sadly, the DS is laready being trashed everywhere already. If not for anything else it will probably die quickly because of the lack of a market for it, like 32x and Vb before it.

Not really. The DS is selling extremely strong, and Nintendo has had to up their total shipment allotment twice, due to sales. It didn't sell as well as the GBA, Xbox, or PS2 (It blew away the GCN), but that was because of it's unattractive price. Once the price is lowered a bit, DS will blow everything out of the water, because current sales prove that is going to happen. (over 1.5 million in Japan, over 1 million here).

I own a DS, and I love it, but I think the price hurt it a bit. And since the PSP will probably be 200 over here, chances are it'll lose the fight against the DS.

Japan had an even better launch. There are already 2 million DS's in use in Japan. Nintendo expects that the DS will hit at least 5 million units worldwide by the end of its fiscal year (March), and they say it will probably be more.

The DS proves Nintendo knows what its doing, and it's in for the long haul.

uh GC beat out Xbox in it's launch week so how did that happen? During the first year or so the Gamecube was actually selling well compared to the Xbox (well up until mid-late 2002), and DS didn't even beat the GC, Gamecube sold 800,000 in it's first week.

panzer dragoon orta didnt see anything all that great except the graphics here also. u dont have that much freedom to move its all on rails.
jet set future this just sucked they took out the coolest futures that were in the dreamcast and only made the graphics look good.

Levi, your list is self contraditing and filled with statements that show that you may not have even played the games you were complaining about.

-Ninja Gaiden: Yes it does play like Shinobi. In fact a lot of games play like Shinobi including Bujingai and Prince of Persia. Doesn't make any of them worst for it. Just means they know how to follow a formula that works

-Burnout 3:Though crashing into things can help you earn points (if you cause others to crash that is) you can get even more points by not crashing and having a lot of close calls. As far as arcade racers go, this game is pretty deep when it comes to its driving mechanic. But then again you probably read something online and acted like you knew something.

-Metal Gear Solid 2:Other than his whining nature, Raiden affected nothing in the game. He plays and has the same moves as Solid Snake. So nothing was jeopradized by having him be the main character. Though having him there was a disappointment considering how you get teased with one stage of playing as Snake...it is a cop out to continue to whine about him. The game was fine, get over it.

-Devil May Cry: "Devil may cry is a great game but it to is over rated". Well if it is a great game then what are you complaining for? I don't go "Oh gosh Super Smash Bros is so much fun, but I hate playing it because it is over rated". You play games for their fun, not their obscurity. This isn't a coolness contest. Do you feel more hardcore because you like playing games nobody knows about? I have seen some games that are pretty obscure...and some of them are obscure for a reason. I don't see people lining up to play Fugitive Hunter or Pool Paradise, but I suppose you'll feel better since those aren't over rated. Get real.

-Jet Set Radio Future-Yep it got ruined. They removed the timer (one of the best features according to you, because that is all that is missing) and gave you larger levels, new music as well as the old songs and more characters. Doesn't it suck hardcore when they fix a games problems and improve it. Hmm while we are at it I think I want to trade in my car radiator for a carberator. I just love outdated things.

-Street Fighter Anniversary Collection- Everybody just happens to live next door to an import game store that just happens to have a copy of Super Street Fighter II X Match for Service for the Dreamcast. I know...lets hop online to the no longer existing match for service servers where you can only play Super Street Fighter II. I mean Street Fighter Anniversary Collection only includes Hyper Street Fighter II which got released in Japanese arcades oh...this year. You gotta love how Super Street Fighter II X allows you to have Super Street Fighter II Turbo Cammy vs. Street Fighter II Championship Edition Dhalsim. Oh wait...that isn't Super Street Fighter II X Match for Service. That is Hyper Street Fighter II that is only availble in Street Fighter Anniversary Collection. And don't you just love how the GD-ROM has no space to fit Street Fighter II the Animated movie like the DVD ROM for the PS2 and XBOX game do. And I just love how SF3 Third Strike is offline on the Dreamcast but online on the XBOX. Yep you could have played this ten years ago on SNES if you feel like collecting SFII, SFII Turbo Hyper Fighting and Super SF II. Then you would have to buy a Genesis and get SFII Championship Edition because that was never on SNES. Then go buy a Panasonic 3DO for Super Street Fighter II Turbo. Or you could scour around for the very rare Street Fighter Collection on Saturn and Playstation that has Super Street Fighter II Turbo. But considering a used copy of that game will run you the same as a new copy of Street Fighter Anniversary Collection...I mean golly that is quite a steal. Buy a collection that has two very similar games (Since the only difference from Super to Super Turbo was the addition of super moves) rather than a collection that includes two seperate games and a movie.

This post is getting too long. You don't know jack squat about the games you are complaining about or comparing them to. People like you make me sad. If you are comfortable with third party games on the Gamecube then be my guest. While you are busy playing 3 year old Dreamcast ports (Did somebody say Sonic Adventure DX, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle and Skies of Arcadia Legends) and ports of Playstation games (Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid) as well as your fantastic exclusives like Viewtiful Joe...wait that is going to PS2. I meant to say Resident Evil 4...oh wait that is also going to PS2. Hmmm...well there is always amazing island. Now shut your trap you blind moron. Though I went to extreme exaggeratoins about the GC (it has high caliber exclusives like Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos and Resident Evil 0)...you would be a fool to say it is the only system with good third party games.

Indeed, 2 lackluster RPGs and an N64 port is more than enough of a reason that the GCN has outstanding third-party support. That's fantastic!

Please, that honor would go to the PS2, then the Xbox. GCN shouldn't even be considered, or even in the same sentence along with the PS2 and Xbox, when reffering to GOOD third-party exclusive support...

And the funny thing about it is...most of these third-party games are good for the Xbox and PS2. The GCN seems to get the raw-end of the deal...

lol,well my test worked this site has nothing but fan boys on it. The truth is ninja gaiden was sweet,Jet set was cool,Devil may cry rocked,Street fighter is awsome(always has been always will be).Its sad though if some one has a diffrent opinion they get flamed. Ive never cared what games come out on the GC as long as i get to play Zelda,Mario,Metroid,DK and all the other great nintendo game. Well, i had owned all 3 at once but i sold my XBOX and PS2 mainly because they dident have any games that i liked.

Even though Sage has already owned you, I will try my hand at an unbiased response.

Ninja Gaiden: To me, Ninja Gaiden is the greastest action game out there. A little short, but extremely fun. Oh, and Ninja Gaiden has been around longer than Shinobi *points to the NES Ninja Gaiden games*

Burnout 3: Well, the crashing animations and car physics in that game are magnificent. That's enough reason to own it right there.

Metal Gear Solid 2: I'm no Metal Gear fan, so I won't comment on it.

Devel May Cry: No response here...

Panzer: Rocks, owns your :):):), just a sweet game.

Jet Set: Uh, Jet Set was the birth of games like Tony Hawk's Underground. Also, the game owns your :):):).

SFA: Don't you diss Street Fighter. I'm getting it for Xbox.

Yes its a good game but it didnt own my :):):):) I was bored withen 2 days of renting it.
