I never found games for the Dreamcast. The only Dreamcast commercial I saw was the one on SA2.

Dreamcast failed because of PS2. thats the only reason.

Yup. PS2 to Dreamcast was like a wooden stake to a vampire or a silver bullet to a werewolf. Bottom line.

Piracy, Lost confidence, weak predecessor, visions far b4 its time, poor decesions in the past, financial troubles which came from those poor decesions from the past.

Dude the list is pretty big. It wasnt just sony who helped sega's demise.

You're all morons.

The Dreamcast sold like WILD FIRE. It has the most successful launch week of ANY console. It failed because it didn't return profits soon enough. If any other company was behind the Dreamcast and faced the same competition, and the same sales, with the same advertising, they would have stuck with it.

Also the announcement of the Xbox didn't help...

Dreamcast is off the market, has been for a few years. Come one! Get over it. How many more discussions about the Dreamcast can you have?

The announcement of X Box didn't do a thing to Dreamcast sales. It was the announcement of PS2 that killed it. Eveyone just held off for a PS2. And look at it now. :x

Advertisement was a major issue, though.

DC install base when it died was around 20 million. that's still larger than GC and XB.

You're missing the point. YOU ARE A MORON, that's all that matters. People knew about PS2 before DC even launched, so how could a PS2 announcement kill it, everyone knew it was coming. Idiot. Read the facts, DC sold good but didn't return profits quick enough.

No, half that. About 10 million worldwide and about 5 million in North America.

The dreamcast died for many reasons, not just piracy or the ps2.

Basically, dreamcast died out because of overall bad buisness practices on sega's part, which lead to lack of funds for both hardware production and game development.

Granted, ps2 did play a small part into dreamcast's demise, however, ps2 had a good amount of hype behind it, and hearing that sega was going to stop making systems, then stop making games didn't help dreamcasts cause in competition with the ps2.

As far as piracy goes, again, dreamcast didn't just die because of piracy.
Piracy doesn't account for lack of system sales, rather a lack of game sales, and games still sold rather well on dreamcast.

Basically, if you going to blame anyone for dreamcasts death, it's sega, who really knows little to nothing in marketing stradigies, as well as a good buisness structure.

you all have very valid opinions bt I STILL think it was because of offsite linking for avitars

Hmmm, well it was probibly cause of mainly segas debt, if sega wasnt in a hole to start with the DC would still be here, i think it sold plenty enough here in the US, just not enough games to pull them out. I think. well there is always homebrew games... www.dcemulation.com 8)

d/c actually did pretty well, just sega feels it can make a bigger profit just by selling the games

the dreamcast died because it didn't allow offsite linking for avatars

The Dreamcast failed because of one reason -- the economic atomosphere wasn't in SEGA's favor. Another reason was because MS entry bascially changed the landscape of the industry -- attempting to turn it into 3 console, to a 4 console. In a 4 console situation, somebody had to drop out or become vulture food.

Anyhow, I'm just glad SEGA is out so they can now capitalize on their two strenghts -- the arcade business and home console business. Not just that, but now the whole world has a chance to see what SEGA is about, and thats qualit, innovation, and originality;three things no other developer(even Nintendo) can boast about having, only SEGA
