Damn is it me or do most of the old skool 2D games that got turned into 3D suck? I remember back in the day when shinobi 3 the top ninja game out and Sonic kicked Mario's smelly (SAY WHAAAAAAT?).

But now it ain't as good as before. Shinobi games are Mixed up and lost, Sonic character's have child voices and the looked warped, and Mario....Sunshine?......WTF Nintendo!!! Phantasy Star will be forever ONLINE....Im not even going to begin with Megaman. Jesus...

only few old titles made it out of the fire of Next Gen: Zelda, Metroid, Final Fantasy, Etc.

Hopfully 2d era will live on for the next generations to explore because when you think about it, games arnt what they use to be man.

I don't care about the graphics as long as the game is fun.

Graphics don't mean squat. It's all about the game play. I like both 2D and 3D games. Comparing 2D and 3D game can be like comparing apples and oranges in certain situations. It is true that 2D game franchises loose something when they are converted to 3D. However, you can't compare, say: Streetfighter and Virtua Fighter. They are both great games but they have totally different play mechanics that both work well for their genre. 2D games will not die out though because classic gamers keep demanding compilation discs so they don't die out. There is room for both 2D and 3D games.

Well if you think about it, ALOT of the 2d games today (and yesterday) top most of the 3d games today like...say.. Crono Trigger Vs Grandia.
Megaman X will never be the same and again and you have to admit..Thats a sad thing to see. The only improvment made with 2d games were FPS: Doom 1 and Halo. but then look at the platformers now. most of them you need to go treasure hunting to complete a level and that's not fun. I liked it when you had to make it from point A to B.

You're right, gaming isn't what it used to be. The best generes from 3D are FPS, Sports and Racing Sims. Everthing else is just about from subpar to OK. I'm an ol' school gamer at heart, so I do tend to play 2D more often than I do 3D. The GBA is literally the only platform that has any new 2D games left. But when Ninty goes 3D with their next Game Boy, it's looks like it'll be bye-bye to 2D altogether.

3D offers much more freedom and possibilities to games , both in the gameplay and the look.

2d games are the stuff,
I like having no Z axis to work with cuz its too confusing sometimes,

in 2d games you know where a projectile is, and when its going to hit you

3d its coming at you and slowly growing bigger

I guarantee you when i finish learning C++ .. or C# or C-Script... or maybe after i'm finished choosing.. i'm going to build a 3d on 2d game.. and it will be good with A5

and i will enjoy it  so will u

2D

the artistry, animation, fluidness and the skill it takes to make a game like Fatal Fury: MOTW, Street Fighter 3, Guilty Gear, Metal Slug, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2.

3D games aren't perfected yet while 2D games are mastered.

I could go on for hours about this, I choose 2D... I draw a lot and everything, and seeing that most 2D games are hand-drawn, I have more respect for them.
a lot of people say that 3D graphics looks better than 2D sprite graphics, but, God, thats because they are looking at older games! You cant compare, say, Halo to Sonic 2 or anything. Look at Capcom vs. SNK 2 or something, the graphic's only restrictions is the skill and creativity of the artist that makes them. Most people dont see that new systems can handle 2D sprites better than older ones, such as using a higher resolution, more colors, and more fluid animation. I'd say theres a lot more room for artistic style in 2D games.
3D games, on the other hand, can have style, too, and the gameplay can be more complex (more complex, 2D games can be as complex as well, take soldat, even though its rendered, for example).
Its mostly a matter of opinion, though...
The main reason we dont get many new 2D games here is plainly because the US game sales come from 60-80% casual gamers, so what casual gamers want, is therefore what gets released...
Theres a lot more I could say, a LOT more... Ill post another argument later when I have time.

To sum it all. It just depends on the type of game you wish to use.

Os 3D da era dos 32bits eram, em sua maioria, muito mal feitos.

2D owns 3d by far IMO, mainly because u rarely see bugs in a 2d game while their like lovebugs in the summer in the 3d area.

3D games are cool. But graphics don't really matter... so... I have no idea...

.. well actually, now that I think about it, it's more fun to mess around in 3D games, so I vote them. 2D games are just a matter of going back... and forth... and back... and forth... or the freaking old ones are, anyway...

3d is great and impressive but 2d shouldn't be slept on.... looking at beautifully done 2d sprites like cap vs snk, or marvel vs cap1+2....

exactly... why does everyone say 3D graphics look better? what theyre really talking about realism. most 3D games aim towards realism, most 2D games aim towards art.

your right 3d is "real" to most people, and 2-d represents a time when games were "getting better" but 2d to me are art and quite impressive.
