I really tried with this game. I honestly put forth my best effort and stuck it out for this game because I love the series so much, but that was the problem; I had to force myself to play this game. This game was hellahard for me. The battles and monsters were fairly easy, but I could never get enough healing items, nor enough money to heal myself. Also, another thing was the whole saving thing. It was really really sad how they worked that system. I felt as if I was playing Maximo RPG with a less masculine version of Fou-Lu. I played for hours and the game didn't seem to be getting any better. Infact, it seemed to get worse. Enemies got stronger while I seemed to be getting weaker, if you can believe that. Weapons were really whack and extremely expensive. The only thing that helped you out was the fact that abilities didn't seem to take all that much to learn, but that didn't matter since enemies would obliterate you before you even got to use them.
No matter what you do to try and make yourself stronger, enemies' difficulty never seem to change. I was almost halfway through the game when I backtracked and previous enemies seemed to be as hard as they were when I first encountered them. This is really disappointing because I've come to expect much, MUCH better from the Breath of Fire series. The story is great, and the battle system is awesome, but they added just a bit too much difficulty in this game, and I LOVE difficulty (I'm probably the only I know who's beaten Maximo on hard.) But the difficulty finally got to me and I quit before I ever got to the end. I know I may have gotten impatient with this game, but doing 1/16 damage of what the enemies can do to you seems a bit unfair, and yes, impossible. So if any of you Sega people are reading this and happen to know anybody at Capcom with any connections, put in a word for me and ask them to lower the difficulty rating oh, say...20 stars?
