I have no sympathy for Arcade games. I remember when games used to cost 25 cents. Who want to pay a dollar to play a few minutes?

benstylus
02-26-2004, 08:52 AM
around here there are still lots of arcades...

There are the expensive ones like Dave & Busters where you never know exactly how much you're paying because they make you buy cards (where 10 dollars equates to some odd number like 23 credits).

There are the moderately priced ones like Golfland where games are generally 1 or 2 quarters (or tokens, depending on the arcade).

Then there are the nickel arcades which charge you a couple bucks to get in, but everything runs on nickels - most games are 1 or 2 nickels and there are quite a few free play machines as well. They don't always have all the newest games, but you can play a lot of newer ones and a lot of classics as well.

Arcades are the best. Over here by the Boardwalk we have the Casino Fun Center that still gets new arcade games, King of Fighters 2003, Top Skater 2 and Virtua Cop 3 being the newest ones. Some arcade games can't be brought to consoles but when they are they lose a lot, Silent Scope for example.

I still can't get enough of DDR. And the grid that is also a great one too.

The Xbox port ain't bad. And the gun makes it even more fun.

I would like to see the Grid come to a system WITHOUT having to be connected to anything except 2 more consoles.

I go to the arcades once and awhile and every time i go i have a blast, its fun to challenge other people at games and beat them in real life and not just over the internet, this way when you beat them at the arcade you can put it in their face that they lost, but it great to go to the arcades and everytime i go to playdium its always packed so its not a 80s or 90s thing, people still like the arcade.

I usually go to the arcades myself once every fortnight. All i do there is challenge some Japanese players in some 2D fighting games (i underestimate them WAY too much x.x;; ) Play DDR Extreme and a whack-a-croc game (made by Namco).

goldenaxe2
03-09-2004, 05:38 AM
I normally stick around DDR Extreme, Time Crisis 3, and Star Wars Racer with the seat and the control sticks(Which is made by sega.) and also star wars trilogy(also made by SEGA.)

Neo SilverHarvest

What's the difference between any normal person and a Japanese? No matter what race, I own people in fighting games :P

Yea, I was playing Marvel vs. Capcom 2 once, and guess what??? There was a person just like you that said, you just wasted your tokens cause I own at fighting games. And guess what? The match lasted about two minutes while I stomped him into the ground.

Neo SilverHarvest

Well you know, Japanese players tend to OWN everybody at fighting games.I was facing a Japanese guy in MvC2. And he did a 150 hit+ combo, most of that combo was an air combo. I was like: WTF!!!! ARGH!! *stabs self* I got owned badly!!!

Arcades have three elements that you can't get at home.

1)High powered machines that give top of the line performance without load times

2)Actual human contact

3)A fresh challenge

You don't have to wait for a game to load when you play it in the arcade. Everything is about the rush of visuals and sounds thrown at you without interruption. Then there is actual human interaction. It is true that you can have your friends over for some four player action...or maybe even have lots of friends over for a LAN game...but that can never compare to going to a new cabinet and facing off against some person you don't even know. That ties into the part about a fresh challenge. Every arcade has regulars...but there are also impulse players who just walk on in to see whats new. And that is the best thing. You can play against somebody who is still learning...or meet a great rival who puts your skills to work. When you play with your friends all the time...you learn them inside and out and they learn the same of you. Eventually the challenge isn't the same because you find ways to beat each other all the time. But at an arcade, you always have to improve yourself to meet the next new rival. Arcades are more than a major event of the 80's and early 90's...arcades are an experince for all players of all ages. I still frequent my local arcades to this day...always looking for the next challenge.

Dark Homicide
03-29-2004, 12:48 PM
We know the meaning. it means Dance Dance Revolution.

Anyways Sega_Sage is right. Arcades are the best place a gamer can go out of the home, along with Internet Cafes where you can kick someones :):):) at Battlefield 1942.

These days alot of gamers take arcades for granted. Thanks to that additude the only good developers for arcade games in the U.S. is Sega and Konami.
