View Full Version : walking on foot!!! Out side of your mech

Concern over balance notwithstanding, pilots can eject from their destroyed mechs and wander around the map armed only with a light machine gun. "Damage for the machinegun is actually calculated, but if the target is a Hound, this damage always works out to zero," Nabeshima laughed. "Of course, this weapon is effective at defeating infantry."

The ability to wander around on foot is more than just a gimmick, Nabeshima said. "We put this feature in because we didn't want players to experience dead time until the end of the battle if their Hound is destroyed. We originally thought of letting the player float freely around the field in a sort of spectator mode, but that would have the unintended benefit of allowing him/her to search for the enemy's base with impunity."

So it looks like you can get out of your mech should be fun :D .

And once again, I'll ask my questions...
Doesn't your hound disappear shortly after it's destroyed? How much time do you have to eject? Is there a pop-up menu or is it a button press?

So many questions, so little time.
Oh noes!!!

If you don't have any lives/respawns left, you'll 'spawn' as an infantry.

Common sense, yeah? It's a spectator mode, most likely thats how it will work, once you're out of spawns/lives, when you die for the last time, you're gonna be hoofing it for the remainder of the match.

Thats actually a good idea. I wonder if u can buy more lives/respawns. Maybe not, the rich pilots would just respawn so many times.

The number of 'lives' you have is dictated by the type of game you're playing. As far as I've read and summized, they aren't bought or purchased, but 'set' before the match starts.

Say there's a deathmatch FFA, unranked, maybe everyone has three lives. For the nation wars, most likely one life.

It happened in MechAssault 2, and was a bad thing. Sure...sometimes it could be ok. but it caused alot of grief. I dont think it would work in Chromehounds. From playing the demo I'd like to stay in my 'Hound for as long as possible =)

please everyone in the name of god do not turn this game into mechassault2. On foot solders sucked because if some :):):):):) decided to team kill someone he would just rush up and blow everyone away. Also NO EXTRA LIVES thats relly gay and i dont feel like watching snipers come back to snipe me from the same hill i just cleaned out...

I hope that never happens.

You could walk on foot in mechassault 2 and that created a whole new defenition of spawn :):):):):):). The only fun part was planting Pilot bombs and hoping to blow a VTOL , Tank or even a Mech up with it.

peace.

The day the game comes out I propose we all have a pilot vs pilot free for all. No Hounds just little men running around shooting each other with little guns!

From the sound of it the pilot on the ground part of the game will be more along the lines of a mini game then a part of actual gameplay. Its something to do after you die instead of just spectating. I doubt it will impact gameplay much. MA 2 on the other hand had the pilot portion of the game as an integral part of the mechanics of the game.

i HIGHLY doubt that.

MA2 gave the pilot, "pilot bombs"... 4 of those can take out ANY mech... and maybe with some skill, take out a HUMAN player mech (the ai mechs are a bit easier with their path scripts).

in CH, they give you a machine gun... as stated, it "does" damage... that the system tracks... but it is effectly ZERO... so... you'd need EVERY single "dead" person to aim at one hound, just for the damage to be noticed by the player. let the game play, then come back and hour later, and MAYBE have something to think about.

and also as stated in articles (and on the board and this thread)... the "on foot" portion is pretty much just so you stay occupied while the match is continuing without you... unless you leave the match.

why not ask a poll.... for games where you don't get hound respawns... what would you rather be doing?

a) have a "free ghost"? (con: spy on enemy without worry, effectly changing the battle)

b) watch the battle from another player's perspective? (any player)

c) watch from only teammate's perspective?

d) stare at a blank screen? or a locked perspective?

e) quit the match when you die, and go to another match?

f) or have a little fun wandering around as infantry?

I knew the ma 2 believers would come out sooner or later.

You're missing the point entirely. This game is focused on MECHS, not some silly pilot. If I wanted to attack a large walking tank with a weapon, i'd go play battlefront .

If you die, you should be able to look through the screen of any pilot on your squad, like in most FPS elimination games.

The problem with THAT, is these games won't be like other FPS games, these games could take FOREVER beacause of the "hit&run" and "ghost fight" tactics. Nobody wants to get severely damaged so will be more cautious, using tactics that have less risk (unless of course the enemy does the same thing) but also take longer.

unlike Halo 2 where a 6v6 match takes 10 minutes (and has repawns) CH will probably take 20 or even 30 minutes for a 6v6, and I sure as hell don't wanna have to look out a friend's mech for that long.

even then the game IS mechs, you can't do anything as a pilot if you notice. Maybe you can shoot OTHER pilots, I doubt you'd be able to sit at a command area and capture it or be able to capture a flag (assuming these gametypes are in it) as a human, and you'd be able to be squished; much to the amusement of the squisher. That's about it.
This way, at least, you coudl spy on enemy movements, the "fly on the wall" comes to mind, but your also dead in 1 shot, so you best hide under a tree while doing it.

have you seen the maps? the terrains they've released are large and mainly flat. there won't be any popping and dropping, ghost tactics or other fire and hide tactics. You'll have to fight or get slaughtered.

The soldier map in the demo was pretty hilly. So was the sniper map. A lot of the maps will probably be flat (desert areas), but places like the mountains will be popping and dropping heaven. Plus dont forget urban areas. Lots of room to cover in there.

they're nothing like the maps on ma 1/2 though. they're larger, more open space, etc... ma 1 and 2 had cliffs which allowed jump jet mechs and wall walking mechs to pop and drop with ease. I don't think that will be the case, but we'll see.

uh huh.

fine, if you want to just sit and stare at what your teammates are doing... so be it.

so what if i like MA2? whoopdedoo. i didn't say anything about making pilots in CH powerful enough to take out a hound, ever. wandering around as a pilot is only just to stay occupied until the battle is over. at least this way, a "spy" has ACTUAL control (as opposed to simply being an extra set of eyes for another player). nor did i say anything about how "this is just like MA2" or "make it like MA2"... i like the game just fine the way it is... well, i reserve the right to change that once i actually GET the game. btw... i liked the Mechwarrior series much more than MA. and Steel Battalion was quite the game... when i have time, i'll hook it back up.

i'd rather be doing SOMETHING... ANYTHING but stare and do nothing. hey, at least try this... run to NEAR a battle... close enough that you can watch both mechs on screen, but far enough that you're not likely to get squished or take otherwise take damage... i think that would look better than just from one those player's view.

take your "anti-whatever" attitude and throw it out the door. you don't need it here.

and btw... i offered a "poll" of sorts... not an actual poll... but on that list, i don't mind options c or f. but at least option f is "new"... you don't get that in most games.
