Oh my, that's a laugh! Are you kidding me? Blizzard's maintenance times are horrible! I remember one time that lasted from 12:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. And even after the stated maintenance was supposed to have ended, I still had to wait 'till almost 8:00 that evening, before I was finally able to get on.

Yeah I remember that happening every once in a while.. particularly when they were rolling out patches. However, their standard downtime was 4am to 9am PST.. sometimes a little later but still - it started at 4AM, not at 5PM.. not right when ppl are getting home from work/school/whatever and wanna get on and play for a while before they gotta deal with family stuff and whatnot. UGH!
this is a japanese game, so I'm sure it's built around their time, not ours.
think ffxi before they changed it.
edit: You can't say ***. what the hell!

This game isn't one built to coddle American audiences. Once you get that idea it's much easier to see why the times for maintenance are what they are. Sega isn't an American company, their main target audience is not American, put 2 and 2 together.
Gengiguy is right. Sega, a Japanese company, makes a Japanese game that is ported here to the US. The game is running on Japanese servers. Just because its 5pm here doesn't mean it isnt 2am there. Yes, it is very inconvenient for us US gamers, but not much we can do about it besides find something else to do.
My only question though is, why is this game's server maintenance at 5pm, when Chromehounds is at 5am?
Ahh the contradictions.....

Since the U.S. is the largest game market in the world. It's foolish of them NOT to make their schedule revolve around us.
In the business world you simply need to make your most important customers feel like they're your number one priority.
Scheduling server maintenance during prime gaming time for your number one customers is not the way to do this.
That being said, I don't mind an excuse to play the story mode once a week. I'm really starting to get into it.

Well seeing as the last maintenance took only half the time (360 at least) I'm not exactly all that worried about it. Is it an inconvenience? yes...
Does it seem kind of sad that people have their thursday nights based solely on playing this game? definetely.
Go outside, breath in some air, and hope not to be incinerated by the harsh light of the sun :P :o
Make note, Thursdays Sadly are my offday lol.

SEGA was originally a american company called "Service Games" Then they got changed japanese somehow, not exactly sure how, but try looking up their history sometime.

SEGA runs the servers for Chromhounds and they do the maintenance for those servers on Tuesday every evening when no one is on...don't see why they can't do it for this game as well.
you think they would just do their maintenance at some crazy early morning hour...like 3 am to 8am or somthing.

SEGA is as much an American company as it is Japanese. Look at all the Xbox 360 games they've made in the past year in the U.S. - Condemned, Full Auto, Chromehounds. Not to mention their European acquisition - The Creative Assembly - and games like Medieval 2 and Spartan.
The servers for the U.S. version of PSU is stationed here in the U.S., not in Japan. However, because the PSU game is made in Japan and localized in the U.S., the server maintenance is probably done by the Japan team around their schedule. 5pm U.S. PST time is like 8 or 9am Tokyo time.

Some people remain ignant for life. It's sad, really.

Even if the thread poster has a legitimate gripe about the maintenance time, this thread has insulted gays, Japanese people, people with learning disabilities, and people who use certain hygiene products.

Down times that are planned are done during the hours that the population dies down. It is not done out of spite for anyone, any region, anytime. It is inevitable that someone would be interrupted by a maintenance, but that is why you are told beforehand when they will take place.
Besides, nearly all maintenance take at most a few hours. Surely you can use a couple hours away from game. Maybe, go outside, breath some fresh air...play some Sonic.
Again, all we can do is apologize for the inconvenience, and hurry through to enhance game play. Better that, than a game that goes stale.
