i already have a good PC but i want to build my own so i was looking around and for an estimated $350 i could get a AMD AthlonXP 1800+,128 DDR Ram,GeForce 2, 4.1 Sound Card,a $40 Case,CDRW Drive, a motherboard,$10 Speakers,$35 for cheap keyboard & mouse, im not gonna get a Monitor cause they cost like $400.

well actully

today in the FRY's ELECTRONIC's add

they have a deal for

a Pentuim 4 Processer

with a box set Soyo Dragon 2 Motherboard (mostlikly with onboard sound card)

for 249 i think

trust me, if you can buy that deal, i'd go with that

also, i have 512 MB of DDR RAM, so if you can upgrade more

i have a ATI RADEON 9200 (kinda a rip off) but its still ok, for a 100 dollar card

if you can, get two CD DRIVES and HARDDRIVES, like me, trust me, you would notice the difference

CD DRIVE: AVOID "STARLOGIC" COMPANY

HARDDRIVE: go with WESTERN DIGITAL or SEASCAPE

and thats it...but hey, its just a segjection

also, Buy "anti-static" wrist bands, unless you feel like killing your self

(never touch a motherboard or any other big hardware, without these, Death is iminate)

lol you sound so cute with that avatar chao master

NiGHTS Chao
02-28-2004, 07:28 AM
...(^-^')

anyway, yeah, i'd go with those parts, but it really depends on what-cha want to do with your computer

also, what OS thing would you get *cough* Windows XP Pro Upgrade

but um, yeah....

NiGHTS Chao
02-28-2004, 07:30 AM
oh yeah, i was thinking of getting those parts, but i was like i think, about 40 bucks off, so i only had 375 to begin with

i got all that money from christmas and dog-sitting / taking care of the house

NiGHTS Chao
02-28-2004, 10:06 AM
also, be sure not to get ripped, off like me

try your best to ask them questions, like

- is this a good gaming PC

- how long do you think it will last

plus, they will answer your questions, in the most positive way possible

so be alert, when they say yes

and do reserch about the parts you want or need

i was planning on using Windows XP Professional but i might use 98

NiGHTS Chao
02-28-2004, 10:25 AM
98!?

really!? well, XP PRO, is a lot faster, and you can make it look / run like Windows 98, using a program it comes with

so basicly you got the Windows 98 feel / look, but with a lot better preformence and abilities

Darlene

DarkShadow
02-28-2004, 10:46 AM
No I've helped make plenty of CPC's no errors.. you just can't stuff it, leave room for air to cerculate, and you need at least 2 fans in there

NiGHTS Chao
02-28-2004, 10:48 AM
lol, im not stupid

DarkShadow
02-28-2004, 11:06 AM

NiGHTS Chao
02-28-2004, 11:10 AM
lol, thx

man, unfortunatly, my computer sucks

- i cant burn cd's anymore, because i got ripped off, (STARTLOGIC)

- please avoid anything with "starlogic" on it, they are a ghost company, as in, NO UPDATES, NO SUPPORT

- i REALLY REALLY REALLY need to burn a duplicate of my MAX PAYNE 1 disk, because somehow it got 2 small cracks on the inner circle, so i really dont want to risk it breaking...

and since i cant burn cd's i cant duplicate it.

plus, i dont know any FREE programs to let me run it off my harddrive, without the cd

Ya agreed....do be careful buying online..if ever possible use neteller...firepay..or something like that....

Heres what I built mine outta.....I cant remember names and brands...but i put this little system together for just under 710 if I remember right mighta been a couple bux more.........I live in Can..so its a little pricy compared to the American market......but I still have a wicked little system for cheap by my standards

Custom tower built by a friend fans front & rear (front fan installed under all drives)
Mother Board....dunno....heh only has two RamSlots sigh...but sound and all that crap came with and I havent had one prob with sound (5.1) or video (pentel extreme graphics) in any game I own........
CPU Intel P4 2.4
Ram 512 ddrsdr (soon to be 1024 when my grubby little hands can get ahold of 60 bux)
DVD/CD (for cost I just bought a DVD instead of a DVD-R If i need to burn/rip a back up DVD i just go to a friends house)
CD-RW
2 60 gig HDD's 7500rpm.....................strangely enough...I got 120 gigs combined $58 cheeper (on sale so watch yr prices...and pit the sellers against eachother.....) then what tha 120 woulda cost me and I have 2 actuall seprate drives instead of a partition.......................
Generic KB
Logitec wireless wheel mouse
17" Monitor 30 bux outta pawn shop! in super condition! not a scratch!

Heh check out pawn shops...their $41+ isnt guarenteed but u can get it for cheap....sorta like a wrecking yard for pcs.....Just use common sense when buying a system to ravage...........

Darlene
03-01-2004, 09:18 AM
They have a pawn shop at a city near buy that has used monitors for like $100

uhhsam
03-01-2004, 09:28 AM
don't get a used monitor... CRTs are cheap enough new.

There is a online store called internetistore.com you can buy completed systems OR you can make your own customized the way you want. They build it for you though.

And if your sure about which companies to trust and to not trust go to bizrate.com and search for store ratings. Really nice. I read about tigerdirect somewhere they are a very good company. Also try
COMPGEEKS.COM
COMPUVEST.COM
NEWEGG.COM
ZIPZOOMFLY.COM

lol. You know I looked at most of your posts Darlene and they all involve tigerdirect. They are nice and all, but you know if you search you can find some even better prices sometimes, but not all times.

Whether you choose custom computer or brand computer depends on your needs.
128MB memory is too small, especially for WinXP.
Athlon XP?Do be careful of the CPU fan.AMD's CPU is easy to be hot.
What about the mainboard? This part is important.
Don't buy too cheap keyboard or mouse.
And power supply,important,too.

Windows XP
03-02-2004, 12:31 AM
What the hell is wrong with cheap keyboard and mouse?

unsonique
03-02-2004, 12:47 AM
Exactly it depends on its quality.Usually(usually),famous keyboard and mouse vendors care about the quality and the design,so that's good for your health. But some cheap ones don't care about it very much. Then these products will make you uncomfortable or even make you ill.

DEFINATELY build your own PC. I built mine last summer, and it works great. www.pricewatch.com is a REALLY good site. Here are some other websites with deals like pricewatch.

www.zipzoomfly.com - (free 2 day delivery on EVERY item they have, I have ordered from there several times)

www.tigerdirect.com

www.newegg.com

www.froogle.google.com

ebay is also helpful sometimes

"never touch a motherboard or any other big hardware, without these, Death is iminate)"
What a retard you cant kill yourself. You can kill the parts so a wristban is required. The parts cant kill you but you can kill them except the Power supply witch can kill you but thats only if you open it and mess around inside it but I have yet to get killed by one.
