Hello everyone. I have a problem with my Dreamcast. Yeah, I know, its old, and nobody cares about it. Anyway, for those who can help me:
Why does my Dreamcast play SOME games, like Worms WP, but not others like Sonic Adventure? If someone could explain why, or tell me how to fix it, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Well I heard about this thing called the SkipDR. I bought it and used it on my House of The Dead 2 game (cause it wasn't working). After using that thing, it started to work again. They sell SkipDR at RadioShack (that's where I bought mine). Buy the green one.

I tried the SkipDR (I had one of my own) and it didn't work. Also, the game was brand new. I'm thinking its my system. What bothers me though is that this happens on my other systems. I put in a game I just bought and it doesn't work. I'm thinking of getting someone to repair it, but who?

its your Dreamcast, i had the same problem. Open it and replace the drive thing that spins and reads the disk or just buy a new Dreamcast.

If your DC plays some games and not others then its more likely to be a problem with the games its not playing.

Now if you can find a game shop that will fix your games. that will be worth it trust me.

My local games shop (game zone ;p) have a michine they put the games in then it cleans them and fills all the scratches with this stuff.

games work perfectly after that.

Other wize you have a faulty lazor .. but if it plays some and not others.
its more likely the games!

""Yeah, I know, its old, and nobody cares about it""

oh they are old but we still love em ;p

I have a few solutions:

1: Maybe the problem is that the internal circuits are a little dusty. Try
using a can of compressed air to stop this.

2: Is there something wrong with the laser's eye? If so, use a CD Laser
Lens cleaning disk. I had one, and it looks like an ordinary CD, except
that it has brushes designed to clean the laser's eye. These are usually
maufactured by Memorex or Phillips.

3: Is the disc scratched? Try to use remedies such as scratch repair kits
to get rid of scratches.

4: I hope that you did not wipe your CD's with paper towels, because the
fibers are capable of making very small, hardly noticeable, scratches on
the surface. Only use CD wipe cloths.

The same problem happened to me when I tried to play SA2 once, but somehow, my nephew was able to play it whenever he took it to his house. I was thinking that maybe file storage on the memory card had something to do with this, of maybe not.

well my dreamcast open button gets stuck sometimes so i can't close it after i open it

to remedy this problem, i suggest getting a moderately heavy book (not too heavy) and placing it on top of the lid after pushing it closed.

My dreamcast always had alot of trouble reading disc so I opened my dreamcast looked at the lens tightend the gold screw and then I took a damp qtip and whiped the dirt of the lens then I put my dreamcast back together and it works better then ever oh and it's a 99

ok for the final time, the reason your dc doesnt play certain games is because it was most likely made during a period where the dreamcasts were installed with (slightly) faulty disc drives. an easier way to find out than taking it apart and replacing the drive is to just check where it was made. If your dreamcast was made in Japan it should work flawlessly, however if it was made in china it may not as that is where the faulty ones came from. this fact has been made well known ever since the faulty ones were released. im surprised supa didnt answer as im sure he knows. anyway either replace the drive or just buy a new one and make sure it was built in japan. oh yeah to find out the sticker on the underside says MADE IN:-----wherever. see ya

Go to http://www.gameconsolerepair.com/page2.html they have parts so you can fix it yourself or you can send it to them and they'll fix it for you.

i always clean the lens.
get a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol and gently brush over the lens.
you might find that some disks are readable and save yourself buying another. its fairly easy to fix if you go at it with the idea that you can always send it to one of these guys to fix it for $5...
