View Full Version : Rainbow Twin Handguns - A Good Idea?

In my opinion, the twin handguns appear to be the most versatile weapon as of now, because they offer a good blend of speed and power, as well as the ability to move while shooting. Do you think it would be worth it to have a handgun for each bullet type? Or would it be better to split the bullets up over different guns?
I ask this because I synthesized a twin lockgun myself, and I still have two uses left on the board.

While handguns are nice, rifles and shotties have their roles too. If you have the money to burn then by all means do what you want, but I don't find it too difficult to switch the linkage of my photon arts on the fly. With a keyboard and a controller you can still run around while switching. Of course, in a group that might be enough time for everything to die before you get your hits in...
Also, I haven't gotten to the higher rank missions yet, but it seems to me that there is predominantly 2 elements that persist in each zone. That makes the use of your other 2 guns pretty much pointless. (And if you're trying to land statuses, shotguns are far better anyway.)

Linear line is predominately dark.
Parum has a healthy chunk of lightning, fire, and light.
the Neudiaz missions seem to have a ton of Ice with a little fire/light mixed in (At least hte missions I was running, I didnt do one set very much)
I prefer to run with at least one weapon of each element on both my characters, I tend to synth my 'best' weapon with whatever element will be most useful in the current missions I'm running. When I was running a lot of De Ragans I had my best weapon as ice, now that I'm doing more Neudiaz I've made myself a nice fire weapon.
For ranger specific this is my expected set up (havnt collected the cash to set up my ranger yet)
Twin guns as my 'primary' weapon, I'll have 2 sets with bullets depending on the missions I'm running mostly. (If dragon runs, earth and ice, if neudiaz, fire and dark, etc.)
A shotgun with ice or lightning (depending on if I'm partying or not)
A Rifle with the most important DPS element.
I run around with twin guns and a rifle right now, I use my twins as my 'normal' weapon due to mobility and fast fire rate. I can strafe around dropping decent damage and hitting all the monsters. I keep my rifle around primarily for when we've got one big monster or if we hit a room with 'miniboss' monsters in it. THen I'll drop back go FPS mode and focus fire the miniboss.

Get two, you dont need more than that for any current mission configuration, because dark and light bullets are not out yet.
Switching bullets mid-mission, is not somthing i like to do. But switching after/before a mission is different=p

I carry a main cadre of 3 Dual Beatguns. One has Twin Freeze, another has Twin Burn, and the last has Twin Plasma. I've not yet gone after the Earth Based variant mainly because I have no excessive need for the abilty to Silence targets. Unless I'm on my way to Neudiaz.
I cycle according to what target I'm attacking. If the target is light or dark base (and if I remember to) I'll cycle to whichever one of those 3 either has the most current PP remaining or will produce an effect I desire based on party circumstance.
However, I will attack a monster with an equal element if I really need it's added-chance effect at that instance.
On a side note of Twin Gun Bullet Arts, I have noticed that (at Level 20) Twin Burn does 5% more damage than Twin Freeze and Twin Plasma but has the same PP drain per shot and retains an equal Accuracy modifier in comparison. Unfortunately, there are a large amount of Fire based monsters/bosses.
I also carry a Shotgun and a Machinegun. But those are more for when I need to tag many monsters very quickly to ensure I get XP.

Well, it's really your choice, the only 'advice' I could give on the subject is to not have everything be the same element (like how a lot of people seem to have ALL their guns ice type, for various reasons I don't think this is a great idea). But various elements of one or two guns, that's not too bad. At the very least, though, you should keep at least one rifle around for high-flying bosses/enemies you want to stay at a great distance from, and junk.
As for me, I like to appoint one element to one weapontype and keep it that way forever; i.e. all Shots being Ice, all dualies being Fire, all Machineguns being Earth, etc.
Currently I have one of each current guntype (minus single pistols) and an extra Rifle and Twin Handgun setup. Eventaully I'll also have a Laser and Launcher in my group most likely, maybe switching out one thing for Crossbows if they end up being really good and worth it.
