i bought tony hawk pro skater 2 brand new, made sure it was in good condition. Put it in, played great for about 30 minutes then it froozed and went back to the dc start up screen. It happens to all of my dc games now. after i got done playing tony hawk the disc was scrated in tons of places. I wonder if its my dreamcast, because the guys at ebgames store said, the laser or something is hitting the disc causing it to skip and scratch. They suggested to buy a new one from there store or call up sega. i dont know what i should do. the dreamcast is awesome and im gonna wanna play it for along time too come. i have a gc/xbox/ps2 but, there not even close to beating the dreamcast. WHAT SHALL I DO!!

Thanks peoples,

A used dreamcast is not rare to find and is probally your best choice

At least most of the used ones are checked and refurbed if needed.

This happened with both my Sega CD and Saturn in the past. It ends up leaving circular scratches on the edges of the discs. I never really found a way to fix it, it just stopped doing it on its own. Sadly, some of my discs were rather damaged by it, such as my Burning Rangers disc which won't boot on the first try all the time due to the scratches.

Ah...years after DC is dead, people are beginning to realize that Sega manufactured it really cheaply.

Mine's :):):):)ed up too, and have to turn the system upside down to get it to work.

The Saturn is still a tank though.

Sega Dreamcast systems have been acting up. They all feel that they were killed too early and they are fighting back against that idea. Thus, some go crazy... so I suggest "shaking some sense into them."

Seriously, though, since the Dreamcast is a tough machine then shaking it and pushing it around could only FIX the Dreamcast. Just the same as hitting an old TV fixes the picture so does it the Dreamcast. My old Dreamcast used to restart all the time, I would take out the disc and drop my Dreamcast a short distance and it would stop doing that for a while.

Though you may try this, buying a new (used) Dreamcast is your best bet... unless you want to pay more to get it fixed.

I had that same problem, and fixed it easily with a simple little toss out of the window and another $20-$30.

The Early Dreamcasts are really robust, the later ones are somewhat more... err :):):):):):).
Anyway, the best thing you can try doing to fix this problem it take a pair of plyers, lift out the CD spindle, and puch it back in untill it clicks, that ususally fixes it, as you see the spindel can brake sometimes. And slide down a little, so pulling it off and putting it back on puts it back to its original position, mind the laser though.

I bought mine used at the eStarland website, have had it for a few months, and only God knows who else used it and stuff. So I guess I got one of the lucky ones.

I know you must have made this post a long time ago, but I'm going to reply now since I've seen it.

I have been ordering from eStarland all summer now. Today I just received my second Dreamcast Jump Pack. Through the summer I have gotten:

The Dreamcast system (one controller and cables included)

One Dreamcast Jump Pack
Two VMUs
Sonic Adventure 1
Sonic Adventure 2
Jet Grind Radio
Shenmue
NFL 2K2
Test Drive le Mans
Soul Caliber
Space Channel 5
Evolution (sold it after a few times playing - didn't like game)
Some SEGA Genesis stuff (like cables and controllers)
Jojo's Bizzare Adventure (traded back in later - didn't like game)
Seaman (came with microphone - traded it back later for dif. game - didn't like it)

And games I have tradded in (*means they wouldn't accept because the disks were to scratched)
Sonic Advance (GBA)
Tekken Advance (GBA)
Top Gun: Combat Zone (PS2)
Onimusha (PS2)
Eternal Ring (PS2)
Devil May Cry* (PS2)
