Just think about Treamcast, it has so much stuff that Dreamcast doesn't. U can travel with it, it has built in speakers, etc. Not only that but it can be used like a DC too if u have the AV cables. I own one of these and I give it a 10/10. I'm a big fan of Sega and of the DC thats why I got one. It may not be manufactured by Sega but it still has the DC system, that Sega made, in it. Post ur thoughts on it weither its good or bad.

my reply: "treamcast" is bad for the Dreamcast
Why? It disrespects the hardware in itself. Many times I hear piraters in Hong Kong etc creating their own hardware but, if it is as you say, then it can only be disrespect to the Dreamcast. If they produced the hardware instead of stripping a Dreamcast then I wouldn't be against it.
One can buy a cigarrette lighter cord for a stereo, connect it the Dreamcast and then connect the audio/video wires to the T.V. inside of a new and fancy SUV or minivan for the same affect. Having a small screen on a Dreamcast is not going to make it funner, it's going to harm our eyes because it's so small. Having speakers on the system itself is not going to make it "more conveniant," it would only cheapen the sound... anyways...
Long live the Dreamcast!

Hong Kong people are geniuses when it comes to piracy. I once saw a bootleg NES when I went to Miami, and can you guess who made it? Hong Kong-ians

I agree with segamon (well, maybe not entirely, due to the "well if they produced the hardware, I won't be against it" bit, of which I think may be a bit pro-piracy) , piracy is bad.

I don't know about everyone else, but when I want to take my Dreamcast with me on a trip or something, I bring a portable TV and a power inverter with which to hook up the Dreamcast on the trip and hook them up in the car. That way I don't have to buy a special new pirated DC and look at a tiny screen.

Just buy a screen for your car and not be forced to look at a small-as-hell screen

lol, the screen aint much smaller than a tv for the car...

A small '15 inch screen can be at least 100 bucks or a little more. And plus you can add a stereo to it :)

I think the treamcast, is a good thing, considering the dc is dead by sega, this is a nice way to increase or bring back awareness and attention to this great great system.

But, let's face it, the Treamcast needs a power source from an outlet or a car cigarette lighter. It does not come with a battery pack. Also you forgot some information like this system can play NTSC U/C (American), NTSC J (Japanese) and can read PAL (European) games on the system , although the screen is NTSC encoded. This means that the PAL discs wont work with the screen although the system can read it. And I guess the "Video CD" compatibilty has been covered by other topics on this message board.

The Treamcast is definately not portable, so to speak. It's price is also insane.
Other than those 2 things, the Treamcast is friggin awesome!!

"The Dreamcast is dead by Sega"
Sega considers the Dreamcast DEAD. To the fans and whatever it's alive.

Yes, the US Sega department said it is dead.
But, the Sega of Japan department still proclaims that it is alive.

Yes, but this topic aint about that.
Anyway, I find the Treamcast to be damn cool. It's illegal, but Sega doesn't care. Won't hurt the sales of their DC games any.

Well it's more portable than the Dreamcast- running it off the Car Charger is a life saver for those journeys- gives the guys in the back a chance to have some fun
And WTF are you talking about??- I live in Europe and my PAL games run fine on the machine- as do the NTSC and NTSC-J games that I own- it plays all the games properly. Something that is incredibly handy.
The VCD player is good but not as good as the Saturn VCD player.
I still don't get why Sega have 'poo-pooed' such a great little device.

how expensive do treemcasts normally run?
here is what my family did for long trips
my dad bought a flat panel computer monitor that would also function as a stand alone tv. we put a inverter in the car, hooked the ps2 up for watching dvds ^_^
but now since I have a dc I would bring that aswell.

200-400 USD

thats alot of moolah XD
our screen cost about 500 us dollars but we use it as a yv when its not in the car XD
My friend said that it is possible to use a normal Dreamcast- if you already have a flat screen. But you have to change the PSU in the DC to take car charger type leads. Or strip the normal plug and attach it to a car charger type plug thing. I'm not too sure- he's like some sort of electronics guru at uni.
Then again he could be bs ing :?

OR you could buy a PSOne LCD screen (about 50-100 USD) and use it on the Dreamcast (the screen has A/V for other systems). You could fuse it on the DC!

You have the VCD player for the Saturn? Is it an add-on or did you get one of the other Saturns that was able to play VCDs? If you did get the add-on, where did you get it because I would like to get one.

The MPEG decoder for the saturn was sold separetly, although hitachi saturn's had them built in.
Yeah Sega, JVC, and Victor all released VCD cards- as an add on for the Saturn.
They are quite hard to get hold of (though not as hard as a Treamcast)- but for some reason are not too pricey -which is good. I'm pretty sure you can get one off eBay quite easily.
And like Gearguy said there was a Hitachi version called Hi-Saturn which has the VCD card built in already. And I have to say that it is one of the best VCD playbacks I have seen- compared with my DVD player, PC, Dreamcast and Treamcast - the video quality is certainly higher than my PC and Dreamcast/Treamcast and you seem to have more 'features' than the DVD player.
I have been told that the JVC version is the best one to get, then the Sega 'Official' card - though I haven't heard much about the Victor one or the Hi-Saturn.
Also, I have been told that it doesn't matter which country you are in- the card should work with any Saturn. :D

God, Treamcast seems cool, I wish I had one, BUT, I do agree, Chinese and people on Hong Kong WILL copy anything, once someone shows them how to make something, there is no stopping them... which is a bad thing, which will lead to piracy!

Apparently they sell for around HK$1500. Which is about £103 - so if your dad is going anywhere near Hong Kong- tell him to stop by there. In fact I think the Treamcasts were originally made in Hong Kong.

Yeah, he's going to HK, I meant to say that anyway, I typed China by accident.
Ah well -China, Hong Kong sorta the same place anyway -just one of them was featured in one the greatest games ever- Shenmue2 and spwaned the greatest movie star ever- Jackie Chan!
