"You're doing it again."

Her voice, lilting, yet carrying the sweet hint of suggestion reserved for midnight reveries, carried across to him from the doorway of the changing room, sounding more to him like verse than prose. The light, fading away behind her as the fixtures dimmed, silhouetted her approach. Like a wraith, she descended upon him, fingers of a ringed right hand brushing backwards across his exposed cheek. A flutter lifted his heart.

"Midori? What're you--"
"Shhh. Aewyn, darling. Be silent for now."

Curling through his hair, those fingers found purchase, pulling his head up to meet her lips as she kneeled by the side of his bed, like some strange intruder come to take, but not his belongings. Pulsing green, the message diode on the vision phone was the only illumination besides the reflection of light off Neudaiz in the port window.

"But Midori, you've been--"

She cut him off with a loud sigh, flattening her hand against the back of his head and pulling it into the crook of her neck and shoulder. Feeling chided, Aewyn stayed silent, looking very much put out even in the dark. A bubble of a giggle escaped her throat, seeping out her lips as the sexiest release of pent up breath he'd heard in his waking life.

"Nevermind what I've been, darling. You need to listen to me now. This is important, okay?"

There was a pause as she waited for him to nod his assent. He did.

"You must become a Guardian."

Her hand was already flat on his chest and expectantly she pushed him right back down to the bed as he began to get up.

"I know how you feel about this SEED mess, love. So many have been hurt, and so many more will be before this is even begun to near the end of the beginning."

Her eyes glittered in the limited light, breaking his heart as it had only been broken once before.

"Aewyn, my love, you are everything I ever wanted; but more, less, and the same."

D:):):):):):) a hand across his cheek, she smiled beatifically. Inside his heart, Aewyn felt little twines snap as he was suddenly breathing hard, fast... and alone, in his room. Panicking, his right hand slapped the control panel along the runner of his bed, flooding the room in amber light.

Her picture hung just above his vision phone, and as he turned to examine it, the tears brimming over in his eyes rolled down his cheeks.

I like this, your writing style is delightful. I have no complaints, except to see more. :D

Far above the second level of Clyez' main shopping mall, Aewyn held onto the outer railing by a single hand, fingernails digging claw-like into the patina of dust settled there since the first SEED invasion. Down below, a single shopper gazed up at the legs in unsuccessful attempts at catching purchase, flailing at the empty air.

Liana gazed down at him from just a foot away. Just a moment ago, he hadn't seemed so desperate. Or maybe he had-- that's the thing about men; you can never really tell what the motivation beneath their motives are, because, surely, they could not be that shallow. She hoped anyway.

Kneeling down, Liana offered Aewyn a confidential smile, but not a hand. His grunts of effort had a chuckle bubbling up in her throat, but she drank it back, unwilling to offend him too badly while his pride was already damaged.

"Hey Sailor. You look like you need some help, there."

Pausing in his attempts to raise his chest over the railing, Aewyn glared maliciously up at the stunted little Beast. What is she, four foot nothing? Little twerp thinks she can... ...well she can, but that damn, little, good-for-nothing, floppy-eared girl has such an irritating, infectious smile.

"Fine. I'm sorry. Just let me the hell up."

A smirk. She could do it, but what would be the fun in that? Standing, Liana gave Aewyn a genial thumbs up, pivoted on her heels, and kicked up some dust in his face as she began to walk away.

"Nah. I've got faith in you. Ciao, mate."

Thudding daggers into the receding figure, Aewyn finally hauled himself over the edge of the rail, and crashed in a heap on the decking. Stupid little... Well, he would show her.
