This is odd. It happened quite awhile ago, but I still don't understand what happened. I was playing my genesis all fine and dandy one day happy me and so on. A week later a was going to play it and pressed the power button... nothing, tried again nothing. Then all the sudden it smelled really bad I think the genesis fried itself, and thoughts to why that happened, it was on a surge protector(not supressor). Is there anyway to fix it by not sending it in. (Pretty stupid to ask that huh)

This is like nothing I've ever seen before. It could have been caused by a power problem (too many extension cables? used outdoors? played for over 3 hours straight? Baby sister spilled juice in it?). My first Genesis (Model 1) had a problem in which it would have odd purple and white lines that would flash and scroll on the screen. It turned out that the AC adaptor had problems. The same thing happened to my SNES's plug after quite some time (over 8 years old), but I was able to find a 3rd party replacement.

You may have jolted it to much causing it undo wires, or you left it on all night

That's true with electronics, too. maybe it was time for it to go...

I remember doing something similar.. only it was my fault due to ignorance
i was going to play some racing game on my ps2 with this steering wheel i bought (i love arcade controls)... and then i saw the power plug on the ground.. plugged it into the controller.. started playing and im gettin all the force feedback.. 5 mins later the motor is weaker and then it starts to smell funny.. i look down at my lap and there is smoke coming out.. :(
I had plugged in the wrong adapter however the plugs looked the same.. :P
I then turned it in claiming it was defective and getting a replacement
