OK, I just bought some games from ebay and one was SEAMAN. Now I did not read the description very well because I did not know about the "Mic VMU" needed to play this game was not included in the auction. I am stuck with a game I can not play and I want to buy another game now or just the VMU if there is any available out there! My question for everyone is if the "Alien Front Online" has the same type of Mic VMU as the "SEAMAN" game? If so I will purchase the "Alien Front Online" game on ebay and use it's vmu for both games! Please advise if anyone knows anything about this problem. Thanks!

If you have your DC online and have the Planetweb 2.6 browser, it also works on Dream Call, which lets 2 DC users talk to each other.

Thanks everyone for your help and I really appreciate your time as well as knowledge. I do however have the mic but not the VMU that comes with the "Seaman" game. The game starts up but displays a message that the mic is not inserted properly(or something to that effect). I been anticipating playing this game but with no luck I have not been able to find a used "Seaman" VMU. So you say the Alien front online will work as well??? I am going to puchase one so I may use it as well for my "Seaman" Game. Here is a link of one that I may possibly bid on:

Well I must go but thanks to all for your help and support!!!

seaman vmu? a vmu is a memory card for the dreamcast. i think its just asking for a memory card. dont you have one?

joetoys

Nope it states that it has a VMU of its own for the mic to plug into because standard VMU's dont have a mic plug hole or neither does the memory cards unless there is a new type I am not aware of. Here is a pic of one so that you can better understand my situation:

That VMU or maybe Memory Unit is what I do not have and that is required to play it. I thank you again for all your help! Let me know what you think of this situation :?: :?: :?:

I looked at the auction site on ebay and it looks like everything necessary was included. All you need is a regular DC VMU. Plug the mic into one of the VMU slots in the controller and the VMU in the other slot. Seaman doesn't need a special VMU.

Thanks for the heads up and tip! I am going to puchase one right now and I will hopefully get it soon so I can update you guys. Thanks again!

Seaman and Alien Front Online both come packed with a special device that fits into your VMU slot. It looks much like a screenless VMU with an input on the top. You can see a picture of the device on my site. Just scroll to the bottom of this page...

http://www.angelfire.com/biz4/segadreamcast2/peripherals.html

Anyways, Alien Front and Seaman are the only games that utilize the microphone, so unless you find another copy of Seman, or purchase a copy of AFO, chances are you won't get the mic second hand, since people only owned them if they owned either of those games (The mic was never sold seperate). I would suggest checking Game Crazy since they will have more used Dreamcast items than either EB or Gamestop. EB has reduced stock in Dreamcast products while Gamestop recently decided to no longer carry Dreamcast stock. So that leaves Game Crazy as the best option...they might even have a used mic. Good luck and I hope I was of some help.

Sage, joetoys says he has the mic. Apparently he was under the impression you need a special VMU to plug the mic into, which I assured him is not the case, as it is all one unit and simply plugs into the Dreamcast controller in the top VMU slot.

i think i know what you mean. you got the top part of the microphone (the part with the green foam thing) but you dont have the bottom part of the microphone. is that it? the bottom part of the microphone isnt a vmu, just looks like one.

If that is the case, joetoys should send the item back and get a refund as it may be broken. Either that or get AFO so he can use that mic for both games.

Hello everyone!
That is exactly it. It is not a VMU at all, it is an adapter for the mic and thats it's only purpose. It stated clearly in the auction I won that it was only including the items listed below:
1)SEAMAN Game(perfect condition)
2)Original jewel case and Box(w/ instructions booklet)
3)MIC

Now with that in mind I thought I was getting the whole deal but I did not know that there was a needed adapter to play this game. It stated that it needed a VMU to play so I figured I have 4 of them so I do not need anythig else and it should'nt be a problem. So that is where my problem originated and now I am stuck with this game(unplayable) until I buy this part. I found a site that sells a NEW replacement mic and adapter at this link below:

http://www.dreamcastmagic.tk/ (listed under the DCH store link)

Item title is: DC Microphone(official)

But if the mic from the Alien Front Online works I will not have a need for this replacement. Does anyone have both so that they can verify that they the AFO mic works with the SEAMAN game???? Please advise and thanks again everyone! :D

i never played seaman, but they both have the same mic. there is no other dreamcast mic. so if you get the one included with AFO it will work with seaman.

Well, it's not really an adapter, it's supposed to be one piece, so if you only have the mic stalk, then you do have a broken item. Go ahead and get AFO. Since the AFO servers are long gone, you'll use the mic more for Seaman, anyway.

Hey Everyone!
I just bought AFO and it should be here in a few days. It is new in the original package, so I should not have the same problem that I had with the "SEAMAN" game. I will let you guys know when it gets here and see how seaman works with it as well! Thanks again everyone for all your help and suggestions!!! :D :D :D
