According to a string of reports springing up towards the end of last week, it would appear that Namco has scheduled this May's E3 show to expose the eagerly-awaited fifth instalment in the best-selling Tekken series.
The game is expected to be shown for the System 246 arcade board, as well as PlayStation 2, GameCube and Xbox iterations, although a home console release isn't expected until the end of the year.
Interestingly, reports suggest that the series is in for something of a major overhaul, with network play apparently emerging as the dominant USP in number five.
Namco declined to comment on any speculation, though from what we can gather, the super-mainstream 3D battler will be making its debut at the May showcase.

edit: it was announced for gamecube too... sorry fanboys no ammo against the gc today :P

If i gave you guys one it wouldnt work because they are very protective with their news... you can't even link to their web site.
but it's spong. I got the news from there but it seems computerandvideogames.com reported this earlier so this rumor may very well be true.

lol... true.
i don't like putting up spong as a source because they are really unreliable when it comes to news plus they have made up stuff in the past.

Personally i hope this is true. Tekken was 1 of the only reasons i touched ps2. It doesnt have to be exclusive but Tekken online? oooh yea...

Tekken has better chance coming on GC than Xbox, I dont think its gona go anywhere but PS2 for now, next generation will be a different story, since Namco and Nintendo have really good relationship right now...

Hell yeah...I would...
But isn't tekken a ps2 only series?

**** the GBA version. It sucked @ss. The main games are exclusive to PS2, and the director of SC2 even said it himself in the Link interview.

I know. SC2 sold the best on Gc so people had to use it but i know for those fighting fans out there, there was a huge adjustment period. I played the Gc version many times and kept hittin between the Y and X buttons and between b and A once in awhile.
I think established fighting games on gc make it hard because we are used to a standard and a button placement for these games. Thats why fighters like ssbm came natural because it was newer. Its not like its been around like a street fighter.

Good point man. Hopefully they'll give their controller a more "standard" layout come next gen.

An online Tekken would be nice...but only if it is a great leap above Tekken 4. I thought Tekken 4 was the worst game in the series both graphically and play wise. Too many characters were removed. The roster was tiny...and rather than just keeping some old characters, they decided to just put in cookie cutter versions (I am talking specifically about Eddy's wannabe clone in the form of a wannabe J-Lo). As long as they bring back some of the old fan favorites...I think I will be fine.

Tekken 4 WORST IN GRAPHICS? It has the best graphics of any fighter out there!

I personally think that Tekken Tag Tournament has better backgrounds. There is a greater level of detail...excluding the rather well animated water effects for Tekken 4. But this is just my opinion.

the reason for that was because the backgrounds were pre-rendered in the past... with those scrolling stages that have no walls. Everything was rendered in Tekken 4.

I realize that Tekken Tag features prerendered backgrounds...but they just look so nice. Tekken 4 looks so bland by comparison. Capcom managed to make RE4 look as good in real time even though the other two were pre rendered...why can't Namco do the same. Perhaps I am just complaining too much. Besides graphics don't make the game. My bigger complaint is the shrinkage of the roster. I want to see a return of the old TT cast...

true... the framerate in tekken 4 was also a bit choppy and tekken tag did look better... plus it was anti-aliased. But tekken 4 did something the others did and that was bring the game into full 3D. TTT cast was huge but there's some characters that shouldnt come back... some characters were just mirrors of other characters and others were just cheap... like Ogre & True Orge or King & Armor King. Namco did a good thing by trimming the lineup and giving everyone their own style.

I can agree with that. TT did have some cookie cutter characters. And it was nice to see Tekken become truly 3D rather than using parallax and scrolling backgrounds. I feel that in that aspect, it makes Tekken a true competitor up against Virtua Fighter...which has always allowed 3D combat.

I can play with the GCN pad really easily. In fact its hard for me to play with a stick at the Arcade as I have become used to the pad.

I think tekken 4 was the best game of the series.
The first tekken game was classic,
And the sequel didn't really change anything buy just add more characters.
Tekken 3 was good, but no were as balanced as tekken 4...
Tekken 4 had great graphics, and a better damage system, plus interactive backgrounds....
That's one of the best in the series if you ask me...
