Jsrf In my Oppinion Is WAY better then jgr...
Because:
-Better graphics
-Better Music
-Funner gameplay(becuase instead of annoying countdowns with analog sticks, you spray paint with a button)
-Multiplayer modes 8) :D

i think JGR is funner than JSRF.
they made JSRF way more complicated than it had to be.
just my opinion

more complicated? are you insane?
the only thing that became more complicated was the speed of the game (which runs like lightning)

i said its just my opinion!
its not complicated as in hard. they complicated it with the powerups you get, and then press a button to use speed or whatever. I dont own the game, just played it at a friends. and im not sure, but dont you press buttons to do tricks? in JGR you dont have to.
its not bad with the extra stuff, but i just like the original better.

I like them both equally really.
I like the anolog system in the Dreamcast version becuase I like to feel more a part of a game than just pressing a button. I also like the music in the dreamcast version (and the loading screen)
In the Xbox version I like how much bigger they made the levels, Each one is about 2 times the size of a normal dreamcast level (though the dreamcast version had some levels that were pretty big)
I found the graphics pretty equal. I mean the Xbox does have more detail but I don't see anything amazing compared to it's dreamcast counterpart. And I'm not talking about jaggies or things that an average gamer wouldn't care about, just the style, colors. that stuff.

It's not a big deal about whether it sells or not. It's how good the game was. JSRF is really a great game and a good sequel to JGR. If you want it on a Nintendo system there is JGR for the GBA and I have a feeling that the next one (if they make another) will most likely be on all platforms or just the PS2 and Xbox.

Graphics? The Xbox version KILLS the DC version. Have you seen the glowing effect in JSRF? That itself (and lighting effects) are enough to be a killer game when it comes to graphics.

Yeah like I said I was just talking about the style and colors used. The Xbox does have more advanced effects, but I'm just thinking as what an average gamer would think. No casual gamer (unless I have this all wrong) is gonna play the DC version and then the Xbox one and say whoa the lighting effects and polygonal output of this game kill the DC version. I was wrong to say that they are equal, but I don't think the Xbox version kills it as so many are saying. It's really good on the Xbox, but the DC version still looks amazing even to today's standards.

I recommend getting Jet Grind Radio. But you will have to keep in mind;
The game features time limits.
The game is VERY SHORT
However, also keep in mind that JGR is an outstanding game, and features a MUCH BETTER plot than the one in JSRF. And at (what does it sell for? $10?) you can't go wrong.
Plus, about this graphics argument, while I thought JSRF had better effects, I think the look of the environments were much better in JGR. Much more colorful, much funnier animation, etc.

same here. I bought my dreamcast in september of 2002, and I got my version of the game for 7 bucks, can't really go wrong. Although I bought the Xbox version (for my cousin) bundled with Sega GT for only 4 dollars with a discount so really it was $3.70. Can't go wrong there either.

Actually you can get both on ebay for less then 10 bucks a piece...
They are both good games, it's sorta hard to say which is the difinte better version because they are both so damn good.
I kinda wave more towards future cause it had more modes of play and bigger levels, not to mention better graphics and music...
Then again, Jet grind radio started it all, and is still on of my favorite dreamcast games...

Yes, there is a difference.
Hmm I don't know about the US version JGR but the the UK version Jet Set Radio (this is for the DC by the way) had more levels than the Japanese version Jet Grind Radio- and the chracter sare unlocked in a different order. Might I suggest trying that out- thats only if the US version is like the :):):) version

Oh, and JSG is a must own for anyone with a Dreamcast.

I own both JGR and JSRF. I'll tell you they both are great games. JGR isn't quite as action packed as JSRF, but you'll still find it fun. The game is short though. Also, JGR doesn't have a Multiplayer mode. I still think JGR is great because i got this game last year before i got XBOX. JGR still has great music. Anyway, i recommend you adding JGR to your Dreamcast collection.

I actually thought JGR moved much faster than JSRF, and there was more action. With a time limit, levels were designed for you to hurry through. Not so in JSRF, where there was no time limit, and you were supposed to spend days on some levels, making the game feel slower. Plus, JSRF didn't really have a plot, and JGR did, so the plot had some cool encounters with rival gangs. JSRF had these too, but they felt a little forced.

Maybe it's considered a racist comment. That's what Americans called Japanese during WWII and banned them from public places.
BTW, the US version was the same. It had extra levels and some extra songs from American bands
They were the same eh? Well then that's good.
In answer to the origianl question I prefer JSR/JGR- after playing both of them again over the last week I decided that the original is much better. It may not be as long, but it is harder (one of my biggest complaints about games these days is that they are far too easy! ) The Songs are better- though they are still good in JSRF.
The levels are more fun to play on- and the Cheif of Police is genuis!
And the story is weird- but still quite good.
Or you could get both

That's what I hated about that JGR game. It's because of that "time limit", and other things as well(stupid disc-jokey, shut your mouth allready!) is what really peeved me off. I got right down to the last part of this level I was at, and the screen goes "Times Up, you fu<king loser". And I thought to myself, "This game is pathetic". So I pooped on it, burned it, shot it with a photon shotgun, stomped on it and did a sonic spin on it and finally, took a wiz on it. Plz, spare me from this game. The music "sucks", the story "sucks" and the gameplay "sucks". Why was the camera and the spray button on the same...Button? Go and do yourself a favor, and get JSRF instead. Or, just don't get either, and save your money for anyother game besides this one.

That's sorta why I liked jet set raido future better, mostly because they got rid of the countdowns as well as the time limits. 8)

A sequel isn't always better.
Anyway, haven't played the second one. I hear that the police part o' it aint as good in JSRF. And in the demo, I don't even remember being chased by police...

Yeah the police arent as much of a problem. ( I heard them but I was never in the same frame as the police for some reason).

.... I take it your not a fan?....
I found JSRF too easy -I liked the 'skill' involved in actually having to spray the tags (with your analogue stick) -and yes the time limit could be annoying sometimes in JSR/JGR- But if you can't do the level in the time limit then your not good enough to play.
That's the problem with most games these days- even when you die and stuff they don't have the old problem of running out of lives or continues and you have to start over. So they need to be a little challenging- and time limits are one of the most annoying things in games, because they cannot be avoided. :P

if there are less police, then that's a good thing, because the police are what I disliked about JGR...
