I doubt it It has its own Chip its not using any CPU power. I use on board 6 channel Audio & have no problems

i never hear bad sound effects (for games)

from my experience it does. i had onboard sound and whenever i would click or drag or my comp would do any processing, there would be scratchy sound in the audio. if you are picky about having clear sounds/music then you'd probably want any type of sound card. or be like me and get one with an external IO hub to even further distance it from interference.
plus i've had some of the newer games bltch at me about how they aren't compatible with onboard audio or something retarded like that...
bottom line is: it's like a dialup modem. it sucks, but it still works for meat-and-potato stuff.
