View Full Version : Would higher graphic options be possible?

Primarily, I'm wondering if we could get anti-aliasing and the ability to use resolutions with x>1280, as my monitor is 1680x1050 native and PSU looks terrible full screen on it running in 1280x720.

I hereby declare this to be the 'graphics options' topic!

I heavily agree. Currently the options for PSU (even in comparison to PSOBB) are quite lacking. Resolutions are limited and just as well the game allows the graphics card very little room for improvement. Rewriting the whole graphics engine is a daunting task, but I think there are at least a few things that can be adjusted personally.

If possible, I'd love to see the 360 version get some of this graphical enhancement as well. You'd think the 360 would be able to handle the updated shadows that the PC players are enjoying now.

Tighten up the 360 graphics too!

I did find it somewhat odd that while the 360 version did receive pretty much the same stuff they didn't get the shadow maps for the character's shadow. It's possible that they found it made the performance issues far worse than it would be worth it. Unless there is some weird problem with how the clients are setup on 360...

Unless there is some weird problem with how the clients are setup on 360...I'm guessing it's more of whether it's really necessary or not. Or Microsoft hates shadows :/ Besides, can't a PC get much better graphics than an Xbox 360 ever could?

Seriously, this game needs, at the very least, higher fullscreen and widescreen resolutions as well as built-in antialiasing. A bigger increase in draw distance would also be very nice. I'm about to upgrade to a 22.5" monitor that can support resolutions up to 2304x1440. Playing at 1280x1024 or 1280x720 just wont do this monitor justice.

I agree with the request for anti-aliasing, even if it's just 4x, it's still something to smooth out the jaggies.

Also, from day 1, I thought that the lighting effects looked more like back-lit velum paper. Some actual light bloom would be beautiful. Then again, some AA would probably blur that out just enough to actually look like a light source, rather than a sheet of glass.

Tighten up the 360 graphics too!Actually, its the graphics that pose the greatest problem for the 360... Glitches aside, the graphics are one of the more annoying parts of the game... Over there on the PC, you guys dont have lag, or very little.... Here on the 360, Rafoie is the anti-fighter; one cast of a 21+ or 31+ Rafoie means almost double the time needed to complete one PA... Techers and gunners dont feel it, but fighters do...

I do agree with you that there should be a Graphics Option... In that option, there should be, like you said, an option for computers with larger screens... But, if the consoles got that same Graphics Options, there should be a way to turn down the graphics/pixels/whatever else makes parties lag

What amazes me is that we don't have widescreen resolutions. I mean I'm sure the 360 version looks good on widescreen and in HD. I want widescreen and wordrap. I believe wordwrap is graphical. Along with different fonts. Not sure if that was part of official server on PSO but I have different fonts.

By all means. The graphics in PSU suck.

A high resolution pack would be nice for PC users. Some of the textures aren't bad but then there are those really crappy low res ones every now and then that look terrible.

Personally I think they should re-make the problem spells so the frame rate doesn't lower as much. (rafoie ramegid etc.)
But I doubt it would happen. Ever.

Support for 16:10 resolutions would be really nice to have, like 1280x800 (many notebooks have this has native resolution), 1440x900, 1680x1050 and 1920x1200.

I usually play in window mode so the higher resolution options don't bother me at all (but anyways it would be nice to be able to play in full mode at max resolution in my 22' widescreen). I'm about to get a new graphics card and I'd love to make a good use of this... but well, there are more issues in graphic settings apart than that.

For example, the already so-bawwed TECH graphic nerf. Actually my computer can't go very well with some (my card now ia a little old and I just switched to the widescreen, so when I changed crom normal to widescreen, it went a little slower), but the fact is that the main problem is not the techs but SOME of them. SEGA is just playing lazy, because instead of making this nerf they should just "fix" the graphics for the problematic ones, like for example Dambarta or Regrants.

I would love to see higher resolution on my 16:10 22inch screen :D

i demand support for 3DFX Glide

on a more serious note its not the graphics engine itself that needs an overhaul or re writeing its the core game code, on my laptop it doesnt matter what graphics settings i set it to i get teh same lag in the same areas during the same situations ALWAYS. its the GAMEGUARD and lack of optimization of the games code. with optimizations to the game codes to allow for these graphics that are sub PS2 quality to hold a candle to games of today. increased texture sizes actual ligh sources with shadow maps that respond to said textures reflections in floors that are actualy supposed to be reflective (GRM floor and Facroty red/blue come to mind) as well as ground meshes that actualy respond to foot steps.

the game would feel alot alot less cartoony with double res darker textuures real light sources. imagine walking into a SEED- area where it was very dark almost difficult to see but not pitch black areas with light allowed you to see the creepy pulsateing walls and some spots in the floor being squishy and piles of stuff being tred through like some sort of amphous living jelly. some of the only light being from yoru weapons photon parts and the seed themselfs. that really would set them ood.

i'm just tossing somthing up in the air i know that would require a major overhaul o the graphics engine but things like active lighting and higher res textures and an overhaul to the game core for optimizations for PC would be more or less essential i would think. reuseing teh graphics engine from PSOBB is like taking a 4 cylinder engine and somehow building it into a vehicle designed for a 8 cylender engine. it just doesnt preform well. the engine was revolutionary for PSOBB but really is very dated for somthing like PSU.

Everyone here is asking for some thing that would lag the game
tremendously! What you all should be asking for is a new PSU altogether. :)
Which is what I have been thinking that SEGA is planning. It would also
explain for the silence from SEGA as well.

How about an option which lets players decide whether or not they want to see level 31+ TECHNICs rather than cap all animations at 21+? I levelled my shiny Foie up so that I could show off those lovely energy swirls around my fireballs, and im surely not the only one who's looked at another Masterforce and thought "hmm, that attack looked weak".

Another thing that would be nice are player reflections in shiny floors and the like. Seems odd that it reflects everything else, unless my Newman is secretly a vampire!

They need to add the option. I wasn't around before when everyone could spam lvl 50 techs. But I've seen a couple vids where 5 people spammed the same tech and it slowed down only a little on certain techs. I'm sure others computers could handle it.

Agree about the optional graphic nerf on TECHs.
Those TECHs look way too nice to not see them (or only see them yourself), just because someone has a slower PC/console doesn't mean everyone has to be forced to not see the effects.

Also, higher widescreen resolution support would be nice. My monitor is 1680x1050 and it looks pretty ugly in fullscreen mode...
Anti-aliasing + Anisotopic Filtering support would be nice to have for those who have faster PCs.

BTW, i think i heard something about a planned update (or rather upgrade) on the JP servers that does improve the graphics for PC users... is that true or am i daydreaming?

That's because the person who made the video has a computer that CAN handle it. Those who can't handle it probably can't make videos to show it.

I play on a laptop and I definitely have issues with slowdown when myself or others use techs.

Well, I have a laptop too, and i can handle the TECHs (i'm a TECHer myself lol)
And it's not a particularly expensive one....

So, make an option so that those who can handle the TECHs can see them and those who can't, don't.
