Though I know the game won't be online through a network server, is the multi-player going to be local wireless only or can I use an internet connection to connect to friends in other states/country's?

it looks like theres a couple ways to do it, but its confusing and involves other software and possible hardware.

One Item im looking into is called Wifi Max. Its a dedicated wireless router. Its possible to use another wireless router (cant remember model) but that involves cfw etc i think.

the software you can use is called xlink kai.
Havent tried it yet tho.

At first I wasnt going to bother, but it seems there are going to be "party" missions. So I'm going to try and get it figured out a.s.a.p because I dont have anyone locally I can play with.

Sorry if im not supposed to mention either of those products on the forums (wasnt sure).

Opy I was in exactly the same boat as you a little while ago but I took the plunge and bought a wifi max and downloaded xlink kai, I can honestly say its not as confusing as it seems, and once its working its a breeze.
The first step is to buy a Datel Wifi Max, then its just downloading a couple of programs, configuring them and it'll be all set up!

To sum things up: Officially, the game only supports local wireless/ad hoc, but unofficially, you can take this functionality and "funnel" it into the Internet using third-party software like the aforementioned Xlink Kai (which essentially tricks the PSP into thinking these people are nearby).

That was good to hear, thanks :)

Cool thanks for the responses, I don't have any friends locally who play PSU either anymore. If this works out smoothly at running multi missions, maybe we can set up a list of people to party up with for multi-player missions.

Well now that I see some people doing the xlink thing, we should set stuff up. I have a thread already on the matter. I think I may set it up today.

There is no stated stance on Xlink. It is not going to be officially supported but those who can get it to run on their own are not harming anyone.

Some certain executives at SEGA probably disagree...

...but then if they really cared there would be no multiplayer support in the 1st place.

I don't see an issue with Xlink either. It's not a hacking tool, it's just a portal for the normal data packets to be sent over the internet instead of within adhoc or lan distance.

Good thing it isn't a trainer, unlike joy2key.

The issue is that a lot of people who refuse to pay to play PSU online are currently (about 934 right now) playing it online for free :p.
