According to Japan gameplay videos I've seen, it's going to have an online mode.

My question is, how exactly will it work? Will it be like PSU to AotI? Once you log in there, you can't log into AotI again? Are you even able to log in with YOUR characters?

EDIT: A online >> an online.

From what I've seen, all the NPCs have been tweaked.

Different weapons, lower leveled PAs, level 50+ tertiary weapons, all have healing wands/rods.

yeah NPC's have been tweaked, though in my opinion they are much more useful in PSP than in PSU as they actually do an acknowledgeable fraction of the target's life. Also, Vivienne, the main NPC you will work with is much more useful than Laia and Lumia are in PSU.

The GH-440 comes to mind as a good damage dealer and can do like 750 a bullet from a shotgun.

Also, since it's in Japanese, I can't tell you anything they're saying.

Sorry Amaury

What do you mean by this?

I'm not sure if you're being serious or not but...

If my GH-440 hit something in PSU, it would do about 5% of the targets life, and I would do the rest of the 95% with Majarrax or Jabroken. If my GH-440 is attacking something in PSP, I can go kill other things while the GH-440 kills that said monster. The GH-440 can essentially OHKO a lot of enemies. With 3 NPC's that stick behind you all the time, you don't have to concern yourself with the one monster that somehow ended up behind you, the NPC's can actually kill it in a reasonable amount of time. Also, NPC's are much more aggressive in PSP and probably attack twice as often as they did in PSU. Stick in the proper NPC for the proper level and they are actually more than meat shields and amusement.

Another example is that Vivienne uses a high % fire weapon, so bring her along if you want to do Alterazgohg's mission as there are a lot of ice creatures there. She can do about 1000 damage a hit.

In particular at lower levels, NPC's may end up killing half of the stuff in the room, especially if your character is underpowered. Also, if you switch to a class for the sake of leveling it up, like I switched my level 80 caseal to level up the force class to be a protranser, the NPC's will do a lot of the work if you choose to do the tougher S-rank missions which yield high MP.

NPCs can kill in PSU and AotI online, but in story (offline) mode, their damage sucks.

to answer your first question:

there is no online mode but there is ad-hoc via the ps3

Do you have to pay using the ad-hoc? And do you think 'cheating' and 'hacking' will resurface, since there won't be anybody maintaining the server?

Ad-hoc = hosted play. The "server" is whoever you're connecting to--it's roughly analogous to LAN or system link play, except wireless. No fee for such a thing, of course. Cheating and hacking also become non-issues.

Thanks for the info. And you're saying no one can use codes or hacks while playing in another player game? Just trying to clear things up.

Oh no, it's certainly still possible, but that's only if you voluntarily decide to play with such people, but since the "community" (if you can even call it that) functions are so scaled back... Just know who you're playing with and you'll be fine.

The game itself was designed with "four people together in a room" in mind originally (there's no way to chat--they originally expected you to just turn and talk to the guy!), so I guess when you tunnel that into the Internet with third-party tools or the new official PS3 one you run the risk of that sort of thing.

From what I understand, ad-hoc online or ad-hoc party, is in beta in Japan at the moment and we should be seeing it cross the pond later this year. Supposed to have full PSN support; access to your friends list, voice chat, ect.

There's no official word on US release for adhoc Party, but there are third-party services with the same purpose:

Did anyone figure out that double connection issue? When you start adhoc, it does one connection to do the team finding and another to start the game. When PSP JP came out I couldn't find any service that supported that. Has it changed?

I currently have no way of checking this for myself, but they've set up an arena for it, which means they've already tested it satisfactorily.
