I posted this on the PSO-W forum, PS:P section.
I just read something VERY disappointing.
Let me find the link, oh here it is. (http://forum.psupedia.info/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=675)
So, it looks like we aren't getting a few things.
I really am kinda mad.
Character transfers, what we get, and don't get-
Just a little bit of info on PSP2's save data transfer function. You can transfer save data from PSP1 but unsurprisingly, little is carried over:
http://www.g-heaven.net/pso/topics/090826a.html
* Name is carried over.
* Appearance is carried over (although it mentions something I don't quite get about 'only new face part options', might not be reading it right)
* Level is NOT carried over.
* Items are NOT carried over.
* Transferring data will grant you a 'reward item', although what that is is unknown.
This isn't too surprising, otherwise you could just transfer an maxed character from PSP1 and have a massive headstart. I guess they want people to experience everything from the start.
It's like starting a new game, which is horrible for me and others.
I have over 700 hours total playing PS:P1, 500hours just on one character.
Credit goes to the "Mewn" guy on the PSUPedia forums. Thanks :D

You can't even keep your items in a "new game+" in PSP, I was very doubtful you could keep them in PSP2, and replaying story mode with a high lvl is boring as hell, I would have made a new character if the transfer was full, but now I may use the same character in PSP2

It's not all that surprising. If you were able to transfer everything you have then it would mean that it would take next to no effort to finish PSP2. I wouldn't get too stressed about it though, as this could become another PSU to PSP transfer threads. Remember, even though they are related, they're essentially different games. You'd have to start over with a completely unrelated game, so it's not such a big ask in a case like this.

I like starting over, having good weaps and a high level in a new game just isn't fun imo.

Yea, after reading this, it kinda ****ed me off, but to be honest, something like this was expected.
I do agree things could have been a lot easier, but with 50/200 (unsure about class cap as of now) there would have been a lot to do still.
I'd say about 90% of the people that know about PS:P2, has already played PS:P1, so not everyone would have to start fresh.
I got over it though, I've already realized I have to be okay with this, because this is what it is.

Maybe because it is an online game they don't want lvl 100 players on day one, the lvl 1 players could get bored for not finding a game of their level. I expect greater sales only because it is online, at least I know of a few people that will be buying it that didn't buy the first one, if it is released here...

Yea, I can agree with that.
I'm sure I will have tons of fun despite starting over.
But really, they should just give it a different name, it's not the second PS:P having to start over.
It's all good though.

It has a "2" in the title, so it's a different "name" xD PSUAOTI had a subtitle, with the same name.

I don't understand your disappointing.
It' s a new game. It' s a new story. There are new characters.
Why do you want transfer your old char?
Then why not transfer those of PSO as well?

The reason I would want to transfer my characters is because I have over 700+ hours on the game.
It's a new game sure, but it's the second version. Phantasy Star Portable 2.
I figured it would be like an "expansion" of sorts.
PSO has nothing to do with Phantasy Star Portable, neither does PSU.
I figured since it's a second game, we should be able to transfer.
Phantasy Star Portable 2 is pretty much a new game entirely, which is fine, but why call it 2 if nothing except a "special item" is transferred over?
I got over this already, I'm okay with the game not transferring anything but the special item.
All I'm saying is, it better be a damn good item, or I know I'm not the only one that's gonna be ****ed.

Normally in the Phantasy saga goes by: 2 = different game; Episode 2 = expansion xD

I'm really not familiar with that.
I played PSU(a lot), and PSO(very little).
To me, ....2=the second game of that name, which =number 2=data transfer.
Obviously I'm wrong though. :D
It's all good, like I said, I'm now okay with the fact we get almost nothing for playing the first game.

I like the idea of needing to start a new character. Otherwise you lose like 90% of the entire experience and it becomes real boring real fast.

There's really no "normally" about any of it. For PSO alone you have Version 2 (which did allow data transfer) and Episode I & II (which didn't, for obvious reasons)--and Episode III is an entirely different game as well. There's no "Episode 2" in Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminus' title either.

Yeah when I first read the news I was a little peeved, but I got over it real fast too. Kinda worried about losing voice and having to fix the face again. They had to do a lot of changes to make space for other items and such I guess.
I wonder if they took out spoken dialogue too? I kinda like spoken dialogue but its not really NEEDED. Besides I don't get to hear the original Japanese voices in a US version anyways so thats kind of a kill joy right there... sucks to be a subtitle fan xD.

Ill tell you the first thing i thought of:
grinding stinks. Its made even worse by the extremely limited amount of levels in pso games. I woudl imagine that many, MANY players do not enjoy repeating the same fifteen levels again and again and again and....again. Especially boring tripe like motaab caves. those levels are horribly designed, and are not fun. but if you have to get that weapon/item...
you get it.
Hopefully they dont mess with the drop rates from psp:p. Somehow, I bet the will...you can only give the folks @ ST so much credit. IMHO, there should be no item that requires 20 runs or so to obtain. This isnt a console game. It got so boring fighting darkforce time and time and time again and see nothing. I just gave up on some items altogether.
The best feature was the reward items. im still collecting mine.
There i said it.

There i said it.i agree with u on one part but i think on some of the higher rare weps/armor it would be more better if it was alittle bit harder making everything drop easy will only make it get boring faster
