The first review of the game is in, and its a 7.0 for the Wii version and an 8 for the DS version. I'll post a summary of the review when it becomes available.
To give you some perspective: the last Mario and Sonic game received a 7.5 for the Wii version from Nintendo power.

Still not bad of a score though. That story mode in the DS version must of gave it a higher score.
I get Nintendo Power in the mail but I think somebody will beat me to the details.

ONM gave it 90% (Wii) and 91% (DS) apparently.

Most likely the story mode gave that extra point. I'm still gonna buy the Wii version.

Knowing my brother we're probably gonna end up with both. That's what happened with the last game.

I'm more worried that the game receiving a similar score would more or less mean that its on par with the original, which didn't do enough for me to warrant a purchase of the sequel. It does sound like they've used more nostalgia and franchise content in this game, but I don't think I'll be purchasing unless its $10 down the line.

This game deserved at least an 8/10, Npower just hates sonic. :D

Nintendo Power doesn't hate Sonic, they are among the few sources that actually give them above average scores...
Anyways, here's the low down on the reviews.
Wii
+ A good game translation of the winter games
+ motion controls are good and never clunky, single remote play is fine
+ healthy amount of characters and extras
- requires precise timing, which the remote doesn't offer here
- nunchuk control just makes things more complicated than better control method
- balance board is not badly inplemented but due to such precise timing needed you have to be "a gymnast, ninja or Spiderman" to get gold medals with it.
DS
+ controls are good
+ presentation makes the story mode fun
+ enjoyable games
- some games aren't as enjoyable with touch control
- lack of online play
- Wi-fi is only used for high scores which you have to download the scores for each even separately which is tedious.

ONM apparently gave it a 90 because it "Suffers from identity crisis"

Was there ever any online play for the Wii version at all?
EDIT: Never mind. I just read Sponge's thread about it.
No online play wouldn't have surprised me though.

Nintendo Power are one of the few that actually like sonic. They rated Black Knight and Unleashed quite well.
You might have confused them for IGN, Gamstop, and Gametrailers.

Dang you beat me to it, I just got mine today.
I still can't believe that they gave the Wii version a 7 just because of bad controls and a slightly less exciting story mode. This review just confirmed for me that I'm getting the Wii version anyway.
