View Full Version : Megadrive Button Lag

Is it just me, or do all the megadrive games have terrible button lag?
Sometimes button presses won't even register, or the game will act asif that button were pressed for longer then it actually were. It makes them all unplayable.
I assume this is a fault at Java/PlaySEGA's end, and not mine, as the game's frame rate is very smooth.
Could someone help me out?
(Sorry if this is a known common fault, I'm new here. :-P)

nothing is lagging for me on the games.
I suggest you check over your computer, make sure you got enough power for all the programs you are running etc.

Thanks for your reply.
I don't think it'll be a problem with my computer specs. though. My computer is hardly a powerhouse, but it should be enough to run Java applications properly. I've tried playing with the minimal of background tasks running, and the button lag problem still continues.

Hmm, it could possibly be your PC.
Java is a strange app... its why I avoid using it when possible. The Genesis/MegaDrive games work fine for me though. These are my PC specs
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400+ (2 cores at 2.8 Ghz)
2GB Ram
also what is your videocard? if it's old intel integrated graphics that could be the problem of what is causing the lag.
lets see here... most PC of today exceed the requirements of Windows 7, let's take a look at the requirements of Windows 7
1GHz processor (32- or 64-bit)
1GB of RAM
16 GB of available disk space
Support for DirectX 9 graphics with 128MB of memory (for the Aero interface)
I think maybe if you could upgrade your RAM to 2 or 3GB. That maybe then the MegaDrive/Genesis games would run much better.
Your PC is old, time upgrade whenever you get a chance, make sure you get a PC that comes with Winodws 7 though, much better then Vista. So don't upgrade until sometime after Oct 22nd.
This PC right here would be perfect, be cruising in high speed land

Thank you for your advice.
My laptop isn't that old, only around 2 years old. It originally had Vista installed, but I downgraded it to XP.
As for buying a new computer, it simply isn't worth it just for PlaySEGA. If SEGA's Java based Megadrive emulator is so ridiculously bloated (compared to any other emulator), then I won't bother with PlaySEGA.
I were just wondering whether it were just me who were having the problem. I guess it is. Honestly, I only joined PlaySEGA so I could buy the Control Pad (it looks awesome), but I won't bother if the PlaySEGA service itself doesn't work properly (I'm only on a trial atm, don't want to pay for a service that is stupidly bloated).
Thanks again for your help.

I didn't know you had a laptop.
If you know anyone that has experience with laptops, you should ask them to help you upgrade the RAM inside of it, I think that could possibly help the lag.
If it doesn't, well at least you will have a laptop that runs faster! =P

If you're using Firefox to play the game, try another browser. I had the same problem. It runs OK in other browsers. Firefox happens to take a lot of memory.

Good idea. I've only tried it with Firefox, but I'll try it with IE and Chrome later, and see if that solves the problem.
Thanks for the suggestion. :D

1 GB RAM is very litlle nowadays, I've got 4 GB of RAM and 2.00 Ghz Dual-Core and my PC drags some times. You really should consider upgrade if you want to play ANY game on your PC.
