View Full Version : How come you need to beat the first level of Sonic 2 to unlock Phantasy Star 1?

I think that's dumb. What happens if you can't find a second person to play it with?

Because, if you noticed, nothing unlockable in this game includes things like playing an RPG or such, they avoid this because some people don't like at all RPGs, so unlockables and achievements are at the hand of those people without having to play an RPG.

I am trying to understand what you mean by your post.
I am big fan of Phantasy Star having played the game as a kid. I have been thinking about buying the Sega Genesis Collection for the Xbox 360 specifically for that game. Hearing that I will have to buy a second controller is giving me second thoughts.
Is it true I have to hook a second controller to access Phantasy Star in the SEGA Genesis Collectin for Xbox 360?
I know that Phantasy Star is a Sega Master System game but I disagree with Sega having this game be something that needs to be unlocked.
At least put Phantasy Star on Xbox Live. Or even better spoof up the graphics for the game making it look even cooler.

Unlocking games on these Sega collections is stupid. Needless busy work to play something we already bought. It's not as bad as DLC "keys" to unlock content on a disc but it's close.

Get the GBA Phantasy Star Collection for Phantasy Star, Phantasy Star 2 and Phantasy Star 3?

I think having locked games in a collection is a horrible idea.
And suggesting someone to buy the game again even though he already have it in a collection, is an even more horrible idea. Why should one be forced to buy a game twice to play it?

I would buy it no matter how many times it was rereleased because Phantasy Star 1 is my favorite one

Phantasy Star is an amazing game. I don't mind paying for another copy of the game for the updated current console systems. My old original copy was probably thrown out by my father years ago, along with my Master System. But why do they expect or make a person who bought their product, go out and buy a second controller just so he or she can activate a game? Is Sega in the pockets of MS? I am slightly joking with that comment, however I do not understand why they would do this at all let alone Phantasy Star which still has a decent following. Many people I would suspect who want to relive their old SMS days with the great Phantasy Star would be interesting in buying this collection. But is PHANTASY STAR even advertised as being in this collection? I don't believe it is.
Why SEGA will not release a version of Phantasy Star on XBOX LIVE is beyond me. They could even fluff it up with improving the graphics or why not release a PS bundle which has 1 thru 4 via XBOX Live. I am sorry but SEGA needs to wake up. There are enough PHANTASY STAR users/lovers that still want to relive or some who have heard of the game that want to experience it for the first time.
Note to SEGA: PLEASE RELEASE a PHANTASY STAR BUNDLE FOR XBOX LIVE
This leads me to the idea that SEGA themselves are sitting on a GOLD mine of potential great games with title franchise's like Phantasy Star series, SHINOBI and Golden Axe.
Why not make a Shinobi or Golden Axe RPG?
WAKE UP SEGA!

I agree it was a bad idea requiring a second controller to unlock Phantasy Star. Since the controllers now cost around $50 and a lot of people use online for multiplayer, there will be quite a few people without a second controller (this is probably the last gen in which I'll bother getting one).
It would have made far more sense if Sega made Phantasy Star Unlockable by defeating the first boss in Phantasy Star II or something on that general line. While there are people who don't like RPGs, they wouldn't so much care about unlocking it in the first place (except for the achievement/trophy). If they wanted the points bad enough, it wouldn't be a hard task to endure.

Okay, we could go easy on em' and only require the first boss from Phantasy Star 4 to be killed. Slapping that thing down in the college basement wouldn't be too hard. :D

This is kind of mind-numbing when you know that alot of what's in this collection is attainable for free on the internet. The same could probably be said about youtube stuff. I don't know why I'm sounding a bit bitter. I don't like making topics so I won't complain.

There isn't one on Shinobi however Golden Axe had one on Sega Master System called Golden Axe Warrior.

Since when beating the first level of Sonic 2 became an difficult task, just beat the level and there you go, PS1.
