I think having locked games in a collection is a horrible idea.

And suggesting someone to buy the game again even though he already have it in a collection, is an even more horrible idea. Why should one be forced to buy a game twice to play it?

Phantasy Star is an amazing game. I don't mind paying for another copy of the game for the updated current console systems. My old original copy was probably thrown out by my father years ago, along with my Master System. But why do they expect or make a person who bought their product, go out and buy a second controller just so he or she can activate a game? Is Sega in the pockets of MS? I am slightly joking with that comment, however I do not understand why they would do this at all let alone Phantasy Star which still has a decent following. Many people, I would suspect, who want to relive their old SMS days with the great Phantasy Star would be interested in buying this collection. But is PHANTASY STAR even advertised as being in this collection? I don't believe it is.

Why SEGA will not release a version of Phantasy Star on XBOX LIVE is beyond me. They could even fluff it up with improving the graphics or why not release a PS bundle which has 1 thru 4 via XBOX Live. I am sorry but SEGA needs to wake up. There are enough PHANTASY STAR users/lovers that still want to relive or some who have heard of the game that want to experience it for the first time.

Note to SEGA: PLEASE RELEASE a PHANTASY STAR BUNDLE FOR XBOX LIVE

This leads me to the idea that SEGA themselves are sitting on a GOLD mine of potential great games with title franchise's like Phantasy Star series, SHINOBI and Golden Axe.

Why not make a Shinobi or Golden Axe RPG?

WAKE UP SEGA!

So you mean you can't unlock Phantasy Star in this collection because you only have one controller and you can't play as Miles in a 2P game in Sonic 2? and you don't know of anyone with an xbox360 controller to help you? couldn't you buy a new controller, unlock the game, and return the controller to the shop the same day?

The bad part about your idea of releasing them in the arcade is that they have already released the second one in an individual pack, which I think was a very bad idea, I don't think this kind of game fits as an "arcade" title, unless it was remade and graphically upgraded, but sega is lazy with their classic games and the will never TRANSLATE their already released japanese remakes of the first two games of this series...

Yes I could go buy a second controller but I find it to be a hassle that I need to spend even more money to play a game that I already bought. It just seems ridiculous to me that after I spend money on the game (which I now own) I need to spend even more money to "unlock" it so I can play it. The concept is not good.

As for the release in the xbox live arcade; Make a bundle of Phantasy Star I thru IV. for 1200 points or something like that. I am sure many people would love to buy the complete series. It is a classic series in the video game landscape. I just think Sega is not thinking things through.

I am a Sega fan, and have rooted for them because I always have seen them as an underdog of sorts of the big developers.

As for knowing somebody with an xbox controller to borrow and unlock the game...I don't know anybody who has a 360. I just recently moved though.

Edit - I just reread your post. I will look into buying a second controller, maybe a used one, unlock the game and then return it. Thnaks.

I don't think they even thought about it, needing a second controller in order to unlock this game I mean lol one could think everyone has a second controller in order to play with the ones in your family, friends etcetera but it's obviously not this way and your concerns are understandable.

No, you have to beat eggman in the first stage playing as the second player and using Tails, so you need a second controller since you can't "unplug" a controller from "port 1" and "plug" it to "port 2". Doing this you unlock the Master System game: Phantasy Star.

Or you can just pop in a second controler and play as Tails ...

I used to play Shining Force 2 to the death for the Megadrive... i was thinking this collection would be ideal to finally let the old console die in dignity but five minutes into the game i realise the Mithril you find hidden at the back of Granseal castle ISNT in this version of the game. For those not in the know you collect them because nearer the end of the game you use them to make some of the best and completely unique and unobtainable weapons anywhere else in the entire game.

What else have they missed if they didnt code in secret unlockables from the original version of the game? I find its beyond silly that the vesion that is now coming closer to twenty years old is still superior to the port seen all these years later for this generation of consoles. It actually put me off playing any further in case i find items like the Pegasus Wing (the only one) are not in the game ruining the fine memories of the game i have even more so because its an inferior port of a fine game and to this day my favourite game of all time.

These old RPGs made us a generation of completionists... where you would want to recruit every character, find all the best weapons, complete all the side quests etc but with incomplete versions of the game being released on these collections efforts id rather they left well alone personally

I used to have the same feelings about Sonic Mega Collection on the Gamecube having to play certain games several times just to unlock a game was kind of boring. I ended up just digging up my old Genesis to play the games I wanted.

Anyway, I take it you can't borrow/rent a controller from a friend/relative/someone who also owns an Xbox 360 controller? I guess your other option is to do what was mentioned already buy a controller then return it when you've unlocked the game.
