I made this thread to make it less confusing and post all over the place! For episode 1 and their other episodes in the future!
I thought if I just get the game if would be good enough for Sega but I was wrong! I feel I need to add my own two cents about the game!
I don't mind if sonic is the only playable character but don't get mad if they are not in. It would be nice if you can use other characters other than Sonic! If they did they could add in online/offline Co-OP! As for the leaderboards it should be based on the highest score, Time for each stage, and Grade (E to S Grade!)
They could add in some of the elements from the 3D games like grinding on rails! Also keep the powerups and even add in new ones! If it has voice acting please keep the Japanese ones! Also keep the Grade system!
I don't care about if the game is 3D,2D or 2.5D as long if the gameplay mechanics are not broken and the Story that's what I care about!
That's all I can think of right now.

I hope Tails and Knuckles are playable in the same way as in Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Half the fun of S3&K was going through the game with different abilities and uncovering alternate paths that other characters couldn't reach.
I agree with maybe having Tails and Knuckles in future Episodes, to replay old zones with new paths.
However, I sure hope the story won't be needing voice acting - the S3K methods of story-telling worked pretty good.
I hope Sega realised that.

My only gripe that I have, and maybe it's not a gripe at all, but I don't care for how the grass appears like its "plastic"... its shiny. I would hope for maybe a few blades of grass sticking up here and there, a little classic mixed with modern. It just seems awkward I guess. This was only a 3 second clip too, who's to say all the levels will be like that? Maybe it just appears that way for nostalgic purposes.

Well, we'll see. I don't mind voice-acting or new cutscene presentation if it fits, but I think they may opt for the classic "silent" storytelling simply to keep the file-size smaller...

Well, I wonder what this Episodes will include?
i have some ideas:
1. Any Episode is an complete Game, but every from an other perspective.
Episode 1: Play the Game from Sonics view (3 Emeralds to find)
Episode 2: Play the Game from Tails view (different Levels/Leveldesigns) (2 Emeralds)
Eipsode 3: Play the Game from Knuckles view (different Levels as the both above) (2 Emeralds)
Episode 4: Play the Game with any of these 3 and complete it with all of them to get the secret Ending (If you got all emeralds in each Episode)
2. Any Episode is another Zone (that means every Episode has 2 Levels and one Boss)
I'd expect an episode to be 7 zones (2 acts each) plus a final boss.

I can see this being another setup for a disappointment.
OK 1. The trailer confirms it as a 2D game perspective, not 2.5D game perspective. It obviously has momentium physics but we know not how accurate they are yet. If the guy who made the Sonic retro engine has been involved in someway, and if its using it or something similar, the momentium physics should be really good. It will have a homing attack but we know not yet if this is the same homing attack we're used to (for an idea of where the homing attack can be fun in a 2D game - try Sonic 1 Megamix hack with an emulator), its likely been balanced for this game. And old favorites like the spindash and runner shoes are returning - boost extremely unlikely and all but unconfirmed (well may as well be unconfirmed). Sonic's run speed likely similar to classics.
2. It is stated it uses 3D graphics, but it looks more like 3D prerender (think old resi evil games), and some 2D mixed in there (probably textured flat polygons but who knows). Too hard to tell at this point. Video quality in current trailer on gamespot is poor.
3. Don't exect anything more than the megadrive / genesis games. This avoids any disappointment. I tried to say this with hoping for classic Sonic and 16-bit graphics. Some people are hung up on that, I personally think it is a backwards step and it was obvious from the start you weren't getting it.
4. The art direction despite the modern Sonic is very much modernised version of Genesis / Megadrive Sonic titles. Old background objects have returned, old badniks are back with all new HD art that honors original designs with more detail.
5. In reference to not expecting more than a single genesis game. I speak of the fact that the genesis games didn't have anything more than silent story in S3&K. You might not even get that so please don't hope for it. This isn't Rush, this isn't Unleashed. Don't expect any voice acting, but if there is, expect English voices.
6. The other character on the site is probably eggman. All evidence and confirmations have said that its just Sonic you play in this game. It is likely if Tails and Knuckles appear it'll be in later episodes. Other evidence is suggested by the story on the official site, which says Sonic decides to go on a break after S3&K exploring new land on ''his own'' then eggman turns up again.
7. Each Episode should be like a full genesis / megadrive game as far as we know, with a beggining and end. But all episodes together will form a bigger picture to the story like Sonic 3
and Knuckles locked on does.
8. Music will be in the spirit of the old 16bit games and have that charm apparantly but also with a modern twist.
I'd personally like to see six zones per episode with the final one having seven but then i'm just rolling by the first game's (Final Zone not counting) standard. The final episode though i agree should have seven zones.
I do wonder though... where has Sonic's twirly legs gone? It just isn't retro feeling if he doesn't look like he's going fast because of the twirly legs.

What I want to know is Who is working on the game is it Sonic Team or is it made by Sega USA because in their website it didn't say anything int the website or the Japanese version in the site (maybe they will announce it in japan later)!
I think Sega has learn from their mistakes with this one!

Sonic Team Japan is making it. Sonic Teasm USA doesnt exist any more.

SEGA West doesn't have a developing studio for Sonic games.
SEGA is the publisher, the developers are Sonic Team, and Sonic Team is only in Japan.

I'm sure that's what they are aiming for. Shouldn't be too hard, as Super Mario bros 3 contained about 90 something levels in only a few megabytes of cartridge space.
That should give everyone a perspective on how big this game can be for little pay. ^_^

*Better animation. Figure of eight twirly feet whilst running a must. Too many 2D revivals look utter crap when people try to slap some half-:):):):)d 3D visuals to go on there. Look at SSBB to see how Sonic should move.
*Call the bad guy Dr Robotnik (if you claim to be returning to Sonic's roots, you owe us that much).
*Zero voiceovers (or if you must have one, Jaleel White)
*An achievement for using the ol' level select cheats. For the lulz.
*Super Sonic anywhere we bloody like.
*Go true Mega Drive style and give us the option to toggle on/off the spike glitch from Sonic 1. For hardcore gamers.
*Throw in a toggle for the homing attack, for those who are particulary fussy about this post-Dreamcast crap.
*Be sure to throw in some tweaks to make it easier for those of us stuck with an analogue stick.
*Unlock different models, classic Sonic, AOSTH Robuttnik, EggRobo?
*Get some exciting news quotage from someone who doesn't have the word 'marketing' in his/her job description.
*Dare I say it, lock-on functionality?

I just hope that by episodic releases, they handle it as Telltale did with San & Max, not the "when it's done" mess that Valve is pulling with HL2.

Do most of you not read the announcements. They said that Sonic 4 Episode 1 will be like how Sonic 1 was the Episode 1 of that trilogy (trilogy because S&K was originally part of Sonic 3). The reason it's episodes, I think, is because it's not going to be different in each episode except for zones. There won't be anything new like there was from 1 to 2 to 3 e.g. spin dash addition, new shields. It will be the same Sonic game with new levels, which is fine. This game will be great.

i'm assuming it is because they have not finished the animations yet (although one would think that having really good animation in a trailer release would be a clutch part of marketing a new title) but who knows.
if that is his running animation then that is sad indeed.
+i'm still holding out for the super peel out.
