Hey, haven't been to this forum in a while! Just had a few technical questions regarding arcade systems/home systems:

1. Is the Namco 357 system exactly the same as the PS3? I hear that the 357 has a GeForce 7800 graphics card, whereas the PS3 has "RSX". Is this the same thing?
2. A lot of multi-platform games look better on the 360 than on the PS3. Does this mean that games running on the 357 board will look better on the PS3 because it has a PS3 base?
3. Could the PS3 technically handle Sega Rally 3 even though its graphics card is a 7800 whereas SG3 uses an 8800 in arcades?
4. I plan to buy Initial D Extreme Stage for the PS3. Will it look just as good as ID4 arcade?
5. Is it just me or does Razing Storm have a horrible frame rate? I've read that the frame rate on some PS3 multiplatform games are horrible. Is this the case for arcade games?

Thanks.

1. The System 357 is basically described as the Arcade PS3, they are pretty much the same thing. Same GPU, CPU, RAM, everything. Every since sony has entered the ring of gaming Namco really just started copying their hardware rather than building custom boards.

2.The System 357 games will always look, and play better on the PS3 because of the PS3 base. The game has to be completely recoded and such to function with the 360, which I'm sure Namco doesn't want to spend that much time doing. A PS3 port is as simple as simply toning some graphics if they want and reassigning buttons.

3.The PS3 handling SR3 in it's pure state? No. Graphics cards are a must. My Intel GMAX3100 cannot handle 5900FX games. 7800 is not enough to get playability out of a game built on an 8800. Add to that that the game runs 720p resolution on a 62" screen. That's pretty steep.

4. If SEGA took a little extra time, then The game should actually look Better given that the Lindbergh GPU is outperformed by the RSX(the RSX is basically two 6800's mashed together). I'm also positive that the Cell is more powerful than a pentium 4.

5. Arcade games are run on exclusive development. No one game is ported to multiple boards. Arcades retain exclusivity. You will never see any of SEGA's games on another board. You will not even see a 3rd party game running on more than 1 board, it's expensive enough already investing in the amusement industry.

For that reason, care is taken when developing the games. They have to make an impression, their investment depends on the near perfection of that game. Arcade games may break down occasionally, but the exclusive dev status, renders arcade games flawless gameplay wise. The hardware like I mentioned earlier may wear down after use, but the actual game will be fine.

Arcade games can basically be compared to console exclusives such as SMG. Little to no problems(only instead of one exclusive, all the games get that same care).

I don't know what it is about SR3. Yes, it runs smoothly, but the graphics almost look like original Xbox graphics in HD with a smooth frame rate.

Also, when we talk about frame rate, we mean the frames created for the game itself, right? The TV is still refreshing at 60 hertz, but a game may be refreshing at 30 frames per second.

SR3 was created and runs on 60FPS refreshing.

The only other version running SR3 purely is the PC port.

The TV's run it at 30...Maybe something to do with the actual consoles, but I'm not sure.

Also, I read somewhere that someone said the arcade version of Tekken 6 BR looked clearer than the PS3 could because of a "direct" signal. Do arcade games have a more pure signal than a home console connected to a TV using HDMI? Also, do both DVI and HDMI have the same quality picture?

Due to special hardware and development focus, yes, Arcade games are clearer than their console counterparts.

I don't know much specifically about jacks and connections involving TV's, But U'm guessing HDMI is HD for a reason.
