Is there any point to having more than 1 trading post? (the limit is one per castle/fort)

Could I ask, why would you want more then 1?

Sure -- if there was a cumulative benefit is the first thing that came to mind. But I left open the possibility that someone else may have discovered some other reason.

Well he only reason I see isn't very beneficial. If you have one at each fort and ya wanna build something but lack certain resources while having some to spare in others then it'll be easier than going back and forth between bases just to trade resources. Again I don't really see it as beneficial but it is a nice option for those who lack time. As of yet I don't see any other reason to having more than one.

It depends on how you play the game. Remember, your home base can be attacked and damaged; that could cause you to lose other facilities. Having more than one means you're never cut off in case of emergency. Of course, if you're part of an alliance and abandon, you stand to lose that (and other) investments into your non-Kingdom bases. All in all, it's more a matter of strategic redundancy.
ODG.

But resources are not base specific -- all resources can be spent at any base (castle or fort).

So you can acutally lose buildings if your base is attacked? It makes sense but this is the first I have heard of that.

Zerosum, with some planning u don't really need a trading post at all... try this...
1) decide the purpose of the forts (eg: food fort/battle fort/resource fort/etc...)
2) decide the unit race of the forts (eg: spirit+demi in fort1, demon in fort 2 etc)
3) knowing 1 & 2, u should know the priority of your resources (eg: i'll need more wood coz i'll focus more on spirit units)
4) keep the balance of your resource as you build (easy to say but it'll take time to master)
Having said that, some players choose not to build Fields for food. There food level is always -ve. They rely on Trading Post to trade food whenever it's needed or sending bats to collect food from lv1 lands...
