View Full Version : Doesn't make sense

I disagree on how the gameplay trailer says, "guess who's back" as if Sonic from the Genesis days is different from Sonic today. They're the same character for crying out loud. Did Disney do this with Epic Mickey when they bought back his original 1920s design? No.

It doesn't make sense how these two Sonics look different. They should look the same. Just face it you nitpicking spoiled brats...Sonic's appearance IS RETCONNED. Are they gonna have to explain why Sonic and his friends were 5 feet tall in Sonic The Hedgehog (2006)? No. Are they gonna have to explain why Knuckles had a pinkish color to him with different color shoes on as an antagonist from Sonic and Tails' perspective in Sonic 3 & Knuckles, but slightly changed his appearance when you played as him? No. Are they gonna have to explain why the Master Emerald change sizes from Sonic Adventure to Sonic Adventure 2? No. Are they gonna have to explain why Egg Golem from Sonic & Knuckles looks so much smaller than he did in Sonic Adventure 2? No. Are they gonna have to explain why items aren't placed in a TV box anymore? No. The simple explanation is that Sonic and other characters, and other items are REDESIGNED. It happened to Mario, Megaman, Mickey Mouse, Street Fighter characters, Mortal Kombat characters, Kingdom Hearts characters, and I could go on and on.

Amy had a flashback in Sonic Adventure when she was saved by Sonic from Metal Sonic. A scene that was directly from Sonic CD. Yes, a "classic era" Sonic scene. Neither Sonic nor Amy had their "classic" looks in that scene. Because of this, it doesn't make sense for Sonic to have two distinguished appearances if he's gonna meet his counter self from a different timeline.

And for those who are gonna say, "This is the Mobius Sonic". Don't make me laugh. Cannon Sonic was always and will be on Earth. According to the manual for Sonic the Hedgehog ('91), Green Hill Zone is referred to as "South Island". If you look at the map (or stage select screen) in Sonic Adventure 2, then you will realize that Green Hill Zone is an island located south of the map, below to the left of Green Forest. Sonic was on Earth since the genesis.

It's quite pathetic how a simple design can convince people this will "bring Sonic back". It's the gameplay that counts, not a design of a character.

Stop comparing to other characters. Sonic are not those guys, he is himself. But I do see what you mean and can agree a little bit. I'm not from the Genesis days so I think its kind of cool to see this.

It amazes me how people spend all this time making huge write ups because they are incapable of suspending disbelief in a game about a cartoon hedgehog. This game is about time holes and is apparantly going to make sence of it in due time. It's 2 Sonics because they are from a different era. It's already been confirmed they are the same Sonic, sorta.

I'll just deal with this statement since the rest is meh.

Obviously I think we would be a little upset if Classic Sonic was in a mech shooting things...or fighting an army of faceless monsters to a jazz soundtrack....but he isn't. He is right back in the 2D gameplay that a lot of people grew up with and have wanted to play again for quite some time. Sega didn't have to use the classic model for this, but they did. Classic Sonic is just the icing on the cake, IMO.

Let me be as polite as possible, OP:

You're overthinking it, and you're making yourself look like an idiot by doing so.

That is all.

EDIT: Incidentally, the Classic Sonic thing comes packed with more classic-like physics, platforming, and moveset, so your mention of it being the gameplay that counts rings a bit silly. They're bringing Classic Sonic back for this in more ways than one.

I agree. who the flip cares what flipping eye color he has or how fat/tall he is....LUCKILY sega decided to use timetravel to explain the differences....but coming from a fan....who PLAYED sonic 1 the DAY it came out. (probably...I was too young to remember or care..."SONIC!OMFG!") I can honestly say that I REALLY don't care about how sonic's looks have changed...he's still blue, spikey, and he still has...an attitude...for the MOST part...I think him being on a nintendo console for so long has taken away some of his edge. When I look at sonic, I think of driving a fast and furious car...not a damn prius. Sonic's too kiddy now.

but sticking to YOUR point....I liked him exactly the way he was in both sonic adventure, and sonic adventure 2....especially the soap shoes. Long live the Dreamcast Era.....because it has the most replay value! ;)

That scene wasn't directly from sonic CD, yes it was a reference to that game but by no means was it a direct port of what happened, yes sonic did save amy but he put her down so he could race metal sonic.

He didn't run away from metal sonic with amy in his arms nor did metal chase them and shoot at them, that flashback is an altered version which never really happened in sonic CD and makes sonic adventures amy delusional only seeing what she wants to see in her own mind meaning she imagined that it happened that way when it really didn't.

it hasn't happened like that yet but it could happen like that in that way in sonic 4 episode 2 which would make more sense of why sonic and amy looked modern in that flashback since modern sonic is in sonic 4 and possibly amy in ep 2 with that type of cut scene.

Well. Don't forget that this game has been in development since after or during Sonic Unleashed. Nothing to do with the constant complaining. And all of the complaining has actually done the series good (except Shadow the Hedgehog.) Because it IS criticism you know.

You're also forgetting that when sonic went to 3D in Sonic Adventure, everything changed. The creative tone of the game was switched for a "cool" theme like for example, a beach (emerald coast). But you can find that in real life. Sonic also changed, he and his games were slowly slipping out of the mood that made the games awesome, creative and fun and slowly started pushing itself into the corner only to wallow in the shadow of it's future angered fans and slowly growing mediocrity. This influenced near every 3D game afterwards. Some less than others but problems with Sonic Adventure would make it's way into future titles.

And true, it will need some clever writing to tell why the small minority of the things you said changed. But also know that this game was for sonic's anniversary. 20th is their biggest yet! going back and celebrating all the years that made it awesome is appropriate. It may not even NEED a story, so if your expecting to be swept off your feet by an awesome story, I wouldn't expect anything too wonderful. The only one that appears whining is you, so before you go around insulting people that didn't find everything about every game to be wonderful consider that.

Not sure if this is what you were getting it, but I do think that the whole concept of splitting the main character into two people is incredibly stupid and pathetic.

I'm going to go ahead and lock the thread, citing the arguments that are already beginning to crop up and the pretty insults that will only escalate if left open.

To the OP:

Classic Sonic represents a lot of things for a lot of people. I think you said it best yourself - what matters is how the game plays! So, let's wait until then instead of posting argumentative threads calling people stupid or ideas pathetic. :)
