If this game has really been worked on for as long as I think and has the big 20th anniversary title on its shoulders, then I expect at least 12-15 zones with 4-6 acts within them (2 or 3 for each Sonic). I imagine it will be probably 2 or 3 zones from each game from Sonic 1-Sonic Adventure 2, unless they decide to use levels from post-SA2 games(doubt it). I also expect these acts to be full length and not little "filler" acts like they did with a few in Sonic Colors.

1 act for each, and a boss for each.

They'll probably pack the Adventure levels into a Zone called "Adventure Zone" and for Sonic Adventure 2 will be split in half with the second one called Space Zone.

1 act for each and 12 zones

I really hope it's not just one act for each, unless they have more zone packed in then. And booses. Those are important too.

When picking out the stages they will include, they should each be unique to their own game (there are plenty of forest, snow, desert, and space levels in the franchise).
So even if you see Death Egg, you may get a hint of SA2 influence. If you get Angel Island, Mushroom Hill, or Green Forest, they could all basically be the same stage, except I'd prefer Mushroom Hill because of fall, mushrooms, and it's music. :) Same with Ice Cap, it was in SA and Sonic 3. Sonic 3 and SA2 has similar designs in desert levels.
That being said, I expect 12 zones at maximum, with maybe 4-6 acts in each, including bosses. Downloadable levels are highly likely.

I'll take downloadable classic levels any day:) I guess it'll be downloadable like Unleashed (4 classic levels & 2 modern levels) this game really needs as much content as SU HD had or at least characters for replay value

I'm sorta hoping they decide to make entirely new zones for DLC rather than just additional acts of the same zones like in Unleashed. Not what I'm expecting, but I'm hoping this.

why is everyone assuming there will be DLC?

If Unleashed(a game slammed by reviewers) got DLC, and with Sega's recent record, it's not to strange to imagine them supporting their mascots big 20th.

I expect around 14 zones with 6 acts each.
6 acts mainly because of what Colors did. 14 zones because, well, you never know if Hyper Sonic would make a comeback or not ;)

I agree with this. I hope to God it's like that. 3 acts per zone is perfect. Last act as the boss of course. One question are you including handhelds? I usually don't (not that I didn't like the handheld games) because I'm not entirely sure that would work... although it would be pretty neat to see some of the zones on the good handhelds remade.

if it's been behind the works since the Hedgehog Engine then that'd be great but I can't see a Sonic game having levels that don't divide into the number 7 simply because of the Emeralds...
NOW if they are planning to return the Super Emeralds then we have 14 Zones already if we are going off of Sonic 3 & Knuckles...but I am hoping there's about 28 Zones with some sort of Emerald collecting between the Chaos and the Super Emeralds....which could also bring the Sol Emeralds into play.
Sounds pretty huge, 28 Zones...but from what I have seen on YouTube, the Zones last about 2 minutes and I think the longest Zones will be 3-5 minutes...meaning if we had about 2/3 Acts...then we can finish 6 Zones at the maxinum of 5 minutes each....so 28 would mean it'd take about 4 and a half hours of gameplay if you were to rush through it.
3 multiplied by 28 would mean we get 74 Acts.

3 acts for each modern and classic sonic, and 2 bosses for each, or a big boss where they give you the option to alternate between the characters and 8 zones

I say 20 levels!

I'm kinda wondering if its just 1 modern stage and 1 classic stage per zone tbh. Be cool if there were more more makes use of assets on the disc and gives us more stages. So long as they are quality stages.

Does Classic and Sonic share the story or are they separate "episodes"? Because I was expecting 1-2 acts per zone with the same boss except classic as a 2D version and Modern has a 3D version of said boss. 12-15 zones is perfect it covers a good variety of environments.
