Game Informer’s Phil Kollar continued to unveil some extra bits from his interview with current director for The Legend of Zelda series, Eiji Aonuma. Today, he revealed what Aonuma had to say about the Zelda Wii U game that’s currently in development and the first Zelda adventure originally designed for the 3DS.
Regarding Zelda Wii U, Aonuma said that the demo that was shown off at E3 wasn’t necessarily an accurate representation of the game.
"The demo that we showed at E3 was really just more of a rough idea of if all we were to do was to take a Zelda game and put it in HD, this is what it might look like. We’re much more interested in looking at the power of the Wii U system and seeing how we can take advantage of that power to do things that we haven’t been able to do in a Zelda game before.... One of our goals with Skyward Sword is to be the first step in illustrating for people how the Zelda series can change and evolve."
As far as the next Zelda game on the 3DS is concerned, Aonuma didn’t have too much to say but he did indicate that it is indeed in the works and also gave away an interesting detail about its gameplay mechanics. Although it’s a fairly obvious one.
"It will be a game in which having 3D will mean something."
Don’t expect to hear more about these titles until after the release of Skyward Sword. But it is nice to know that they’re on the way.
The full interview will be featured in the October issue of Game Informer.

I'd rather have the Zelda game in the middle of the Wii U's life time. Early gen games don't take full power of the console and a Zelda game that takes full advantage of HD would be awesome.

By all current indications the Wii U won't be much more powerful than the 360 so I doubt there will be any reason to wait, we've already pretty much seen all the system has to offer.
There's too much Zelda. Why must we have a Zelda game on every platform? 3DS already has a Zelda game, I see no reason to rush to develop another one.

Why not? If there's one original per platform that's fine.
Also do you really want the only 3DS Zelda game to be a remaster of OoT?
There's usually two dev teams, before it was Flagship who made the Game Boy titles but they are gone. Maybe Grezzo is taking over handheld development while the main team is with Wii U.

Devs have had 360 games run perfectly on Wii U hardware with underclocked dev kits. Along with that, the hardware isn't even near final. I'm 100% sure that the Wii U will have a noticeable update from the 360. It might not be a really big step, but it is definitely bigger then "won't be much more powerful".
I'm also betting that the 3DS Zelda won't be released in a while. You'll be bored of OoT by then.

Because Nintendo knows that Zelda games sell really well. Not hard to figure out, dude.

I agree, i'm sure we won't see a Zelda Wii U game until 2015 or so, at least 3 years after the Wii U is released. About a 3DS Zelda game though, we'll definitely see one a lot sooner, i'm all for it though because OOT3D isn't really a new Zelda game.

OOT 3D was co-developed by Grezzo, but apparently Aonuma, etc. were involved. They just put that out, they're working on Skyward Sword, they're working on a Wii U Zelda, and now they're working on a 3DS Zelda?
Sheesh. These are not small games and they (should be) getting lots of individual attention. Spreading the team so thin (even if they are gettting help from other devs) just doesn't seem like a great idea to me.

I don't know about you folks, but I'm hoping for a 2D Zelda game. And I'm not talking PH or ST, I mean Four Swords/Minish Cap style with awesome sprites. I could see them really expand on 3D with a 2D Zelda game. I really hope 2D Zelda doesn't die. D:
EDIT: I should probably mention Minish Cap is my favorite of the Zelda game. >.> lol

I dunno, Shadow, the team really isn't spread thin when there's more than one. We've always had one set of people working on handheld Zeldas (Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks) and one set of people working on console Zeldas at the same time, it's hardly surprising that they're doing it again.
No, what I'm worried about is lack of innovation. I'm afraid that, after we have Skyward Sword looking like a fresh Zelda title, they're going to give us some tedious "throwback" Twilight Princess-style game on the WiiU. I mean, Twilight Princess hardly even used the new game mechanics it introduced, it really struck me as a game that didn't seem like it had that balancing and polishing the other 3D Zeldas had.

I'm hoping for 2D as in a new Zelda II style game. I like Minish Cap too, Toon Link translated well in sprite form.
