It's being represented as a FLAGSHIP title of modern era,
like Sonic the Hedgehog(1991) for classic or Sonic Adventure(1999) for dreamcast,
but 06 should never be such a flagship title. it's mediocre at best.

When it comes to establishing Sonic's modern legacy, we all know that Sonic 06 did nothing.
It was a poorly remade version of Sonic Adventureish gameplay with lots of glitches and ridiculously overwrought plot.

(In short, it might be a Sonic Adventure HD meets Final Fantasy, but defintely did not start the modern era we know.)

but 06 is just LIVING OFF their fame.

I think it's possible for Sega to RENAME Crisis City
and REINTRODUCE it as an original Generations stage.

By doing that it would:
1) ERASE 06 once and for all,
2) ESTABLISH Sonic Unleashed as a Flagship title for modern era,
3) and even SATISFY Crisis City fans.

Renaming won't take much time and it's possible.

Well yeah, Sonic 06 is absolute trash, but I don't think it'd be too much of an issue for it to be shown in the trailer. Imagine if they actually make it look good.

Although I think the glitches are overstated, because even without them it is still a horribly designed game, and removing the glitches can't fix that.

it did help with the creation of the hedgehog engine by having the mach speed segments which are pretty much a really early version of the 3d parts in the daytime levels in unleashed.

06 is part of sonic's history, deal with it. A biased opinion isn't going to fix that. I personally can't wait to see how crisis city was meant to be.

I actually enjoyed 06, you talk about glitches..Sonic Adventure series had glitches pretty similar to 06. Honestly I think it's good enough to be a Sonic Adventure 3 :) (here comes the riot)

Sonic the hedgehog (2006) was at one time a decent game but I believe as release was coming SEGA decided that the game wasn't stable enough with the current build which probably contained an early version of the hedgehog engine. They then decided to pull out the most stable working build they had and scrap the hedgehog engine until it was finished.

In other words, it expressed problems with the Adventure games and the 3D game as a whole, which led to some of the changes made for Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors:

-Sonic is the only playable character
-Sonic's spindash becomes a slide
-there are either small hubs or a Stage Select Map
-human characters are cartoony
-Sonic has more control when moving fast
-paths started to become scripted
-the 3D wall jump segments become a QTE
-the Day/Night feature that was originallly going to be in 06 was used in Unleashed instead
-the upgradable power-ups that were originally going to be in 06 were used in Unleashed instead
-Sonic has all abilities from the last game from the get go in the new game (except Ring Dash)

1. You could change the names of all the levels in Sonic 4 Episode 1, but people would still be calling the levels rehashes.

Heck, if we renamed Chemical Plant, Sky Sanctuary, and Speed Highway, Hoggy would still complain about them.

2. If we could rename Seaside Hill, Emerald Coast, would people really look at the level and say "Ah, that's Emerald Coast from Sonic Adventure" or would we go "Why did they call this Emerald Coast when it looks more like Seaside Hill or Ocean Palace from Sonic Heroes?"

3. You could call it "Chaotic Inferno" but any person who's played Sonic Rivals 2 could tell the difference between this level and Crisis City.

4. Everything has an official, fan made, and nick name. You can't stop someone from calling it what they want it to be called.

5. While almost all of the content in Generations comes from other Sonic games, ALL THE LEVELS IN THE HD VERSION ARE ORIGINAL GENERATIONS STAGES.

Sonic '06 was "okay" and even with that being said, it's completely irrelevant to Sonic Generations. We know why Sonic '06 was less successful, due to glitches, level design, etc etc. But this is taking an old level, and redesigning it in a game with completely different gameplay styles. The idea of Crisis City in itself is very unique, and I'm honestly looking forward to seeing what they do to it (gimmicks, design, remixes and all... I'll be thoroughly disappointed if there's no tornado carrying cars...)

The game is less than a month away, it's completed, and we haven't played the entire thing yet, so don't worry so much... also this thread is totally a spoiler, but spoilers are common knowledge now in the Sonic community...
