Greetings all, I have a subject I'd like to discuss. That subject is the transformation of popular 2-D fighting game franchises into 3-D fighting game duds. The two biggest, and oldest, names in the game (Street Fighter with its ex series and recently the King of Fighters maximum impact) have already tried their hand at doing so and have seen little response from it other than from the fans. Now that Guilty Gear has blazed its way onto the scene with more style and attitude than both Sf and KOF put together, do you think that Sammy(now High moon studios)
wil be pressured into making Guilty Gear a 3-D game?

Since the first Guilty Gear was initially developed as a 3D game before the decision was made to start from the beginning to create a 2D game, I don't see it happening, at least not in the foreseeable future.

It's bound to happen someday.

It will be terrible if they went 3D, they should (and probably will) just stick to 2D.

To answer your question literally, I don't think High Moon will be pressured to go 3D with GG cuz I don't think they'll be involved with GG for a little bit - they've got Darkwatch coming up soon, and if that does well, then they may decide to invest more in that series than in GG... or not, I suppose.
I'm gonna have to say that they'll probably keep GG in 2D, unless they decide to do a non-"fighter" 3D game, like a FF-esque game (which would be odd, I think).

High Moon probably won't help publish the GG games anymore. Sega-Sammy and a few other third party companies (like Majesco for the X-Box #R) will be doing that for the next one.

If it ever goes 3D, it'll not only loose a huge fan base, but it'll basically be a KOF: Maximum Impact clone. Only with hair metal music and probably less characters with dumbed down moves.

Guilty Gear is currently impossible to render in 3d. Since 3d games use motion-capture technology to make their models, any character with movements that a normal human can't replicate or who morphs their body somehow would be unmakeable. We don't have the technology to make a 3d GG game.

If Guilty Gear went 3D I think it should have Cel shaded graphics. If it was a 4 player 3d Guilty Gear it should be like Power Stone.

If Guilty Gear goes 3D, it's best chance would be on the next gen consoles. Their higher rendering technology would make some of the flair that GG games have possible. The basic moves wouldn't be too diffucult to do in Mocap, as well as some of their specials, but that still makes up a very small amount of the game, unless they did it like DBZ: Budokia

I wouldn't mind it, if the gameplay was more like Soul Calibur than KOF:MI. There was more freedom in the stages in Soul Calibur, and Guilty Gear is essentially a weapon-based fighter, kinda like Last Blade of Samurai Shodown.

omgzor I lovezor my 2D111!111!11 I have to havzor no 3D Guilty Gear or my pants will be stained with brown fury juice!111
Kof MI wasn't bad at all. I don't see why they couldn't make it play like Soul Calibur and keep SOME of guilty gears elements (such as the tension guages and rediculously high jumps etc). Rather than try to keep it "2D" and make it "3D" they should just scrap most of the "2D" and make most of it "3D".
The trouble with 2D to 3D conversions is they always try to retain the gameplay of the 2D version rather than going for full on 3D fighting in the style of Soulc Calibur or Virtua Fighter!
