I was looking at the Alpha system reqs and what's the deal with JP version of Windows? Is the Window's I currently have ok? Sorry if that's a dumb question....
Also, I know my laptop can run at least the beta with no probs but what are the settings options? Example: How demanding is say Ultra settings (if there is one)? If I cant run it on max settings I definately want to build a PC and just use my laptop when im away from home.
Specs: AW M17x R1 / T9600 / Dual GTX280m SLI / 8GB DDR3 1333 / Vista 64 Premium
The only regrets to the AW is the crap Dell drivers for my video cards, Nvidia abandoned my HybridSli graphics so my drivers are almost a year old. I can run D3 beta at max settings but I can tell my drivers are hindering my system a bit.
Thanks in advance guys! Look forward to seeing some of you on PSO2 soon!!!

If only there were some sort of benchmark tool available to give you an indication of how the game would run.

Well first of all, the JP Windows thing is definitely a bunch of crap, but yeah.
Best thing I would say you could do to see if you can run it well would be to use the Benchmark tool in the Character Creator at setting level 5 in the options. It was taken down recently from Sega's site, but I took the liberty of reuploading it for you so here :P http://www.filedropper.com/pso2cc
And for good measure, the translation patch for the Character Creator can be found here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9259868/pso2_text_stuff/creator_translation.rar
Just pop the files in that archive in with the other ones like it in the install folder (May need to replace equivalents in there, don't remember) and there you go.
Hope that helps you out.
Edit:

They actually took that down as I said.

Huh, that's odd.
The official mirror SEGA had is still up: http://www.4gamer.net/games/120/G012075/20120330045/link.html?http://file.4gamer.net/demo/PSO2_Chara_Create_Trial_V1_00.zip

Well its odd they'd take it off PSO2.jp then. Didn't realize they'd reupped it honestly. That works I guess.
Edit:
Thank you Shadow I appreciate it.
No problem, just trying to help.

Must be a decent size file, 20 minute download... was expecting like a 5 min DL. Must be a sweet char creater. :)
It is, however incomplete, so imagine the real deal!

Heres what you need as far as OS
Windows Xp Sp3 with japanese language support installed ( You need an installation cd to install this ) Or Japanese Win Xp
Any version of windows 7 will work.
Windows 8 also works.
Btw the specs they list to play are almost double of what you realistically need to play. The game very scalable. Without advanced shaders on I'd say this could almost run on a damn pentium 3 with a decent video card. Very good job at optimizing this game.

Be warned, while the game might run without advanced shaders, it looks god-damned atrocious.

Well can some of you post your PSO2 benchmark scores ( the benchmark built into the characater creater ) to see how i'm matching up??

Vista 64 should work flawlessly as well? I prefer it... :)
My laptop scores right under 5000 but i dont think it is running my system to it's max...it only shows 1 GTX280 and my T9600 @ 2.8ghz
Im running my T9600 @ 3.3ghz and dual GTX280's OC'd to 650mhz core clock/1100 mhz memory clock/1550 shader clock on each card. I should be at around 7000 or so I feel. If i can run Crysis 2 and Fallout NV on Max settings @ 30+ fps I feel I should run this game at High settings at least.

The settings I used in the beta gave me around a 1300 in the benchmark, I think. Something in that neck of the woods.

Ouchers, that is super low. Are you sure about that?? lol. 1000-1500 is like a BASE score. I'm sure you still have it installed...do another run? :)

1300 is a plenty decent score. I didn't encounter any framerate issues in the beta; apart from the occasional extremely busy lobby and a part of caves that had a rendering glitch, I never dropped a single frame.
yea it seams the benchmarks thingys are a little overboard....

Running it with enhanced shaders and all the jazz you see 2000ish being normal. The game runs at 30fps at a bench mark score of around 800 thought soooo.
Btw lol at your vista. Yeah im sure it works on that but just why. Vista is a passer os. Every other microsoft os is normally a failure and replaced quickly. 95 se, 98, me, vista.

Does this, then, also apply to Windows 8? Been looking for an excuse to not upgrade.

They based the interface off the Metro phone UI and basicly shot every other part of the interface to hell. I really can't see the design they went with helping performance and if nothing else I could REALLY see it becoming annoying.

7's good enough. Im running 8 right now cause I wanted to try it. It becomes more of announcance than a benefit. If everything was forced to support the new interface then yeah it would be awesome like my windows phone is or my 360 is. My biggest issue is you run a game and it goes right to the main desktop. It would should run in a virtual fullscreen. When you minimize it should go back to the tiles. It doesnt do that at all. You're never using the metro interface because simply nothing supports it.

I think the benchmark is unreliable. It gave me a below average score, and yet I played the Closed Beta on completely max settings (in full-screen), with zero issues. I wouldn't go by that, myself.

Anything above 5000 is good.Really, anything over like 800-1000 is adequate for what the actual game has presented thus far.

it's embarrassing how inaccurate the benchmark is compared to the actual game.

ionno what he got but I got 1200~ on full max settings and like 8000~ on advance shaders off. 110fps without shaders, 40~ with everything on.

Realistically not many people should have issues running PSO2, I know friends who didn't think their laptop would run it because of low Benchmark scores but it ended up running very smooth.
My benchmark scores were:
19309 - Default settings, changed nothing - Graphic level 3.
http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/n519/CourageousFlame/pso20120412_225049_000.jpg
8528 - MAX settings, everything maxed out - Graphic level 5.

It's unreliable in that the ranges given do not really reflect performance in the actual game itself.

It's unreliable b/c I can run Crysis 2 at max settings @ 45-55 fps and I only score 3000-3500 on their benchmark...lol
'only'? That's a pretty high score.
