It was designed specifically for the game.

This is particularly relevant for the PS3 as NiGHTS on PS2 felt really weird at first at first, the analog stick is so loose.

Personally though, I have played NiGHTS in SSF with the Xbox 360 controller for some time now, so its fine for me.

But I can definitely see that some would just prefer the original controller.
