I have the Sega Smash Pack CD-ROM and I can't get the game Columns to work properly. The game will stop at level eight (or level 16 if I started at eight) and will end up going back to the Smash Pack 1 menu screen. I don't seem to have a problem with the other games on there although this did happen once while playing Outrun.

My computer is a XP Home Edition, P4 1.6 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 230 MB available physical memory, 1.23 GB available virtual memory.
DirectX 8.1 (I know it's old).
I tried setting the colors to 16 bit and 256.
I tried reinstalling the game using the compatibility mode.
I tried lowering the video and audio acceleration.
I don't have any problems with any other games like Doom, SimTheme Park, The Sims, WCW Nitro or Road Rash (yes, I play old games).

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this problem keeps happening? Is there a patch or a way to fix it?

Smash Pack ! for the PC is garbage, badly programmed emulator running the Genesis (ie, worse) versions of arcade games! Wow!

This doesnt happen with the original Smash Pack CDROM on my machine.
However the sound goes garbled by time to time.

This happens with the following :

Sega Smash Pack (Published by Expert Software)
Sega Twin Pack - Sega Smash Pack 1 and 2

Would you believe it they used an old version of Genecyst for their emulator? Companies are starting to license emulators on the web for their use in upcoming classic game compilations.
