Just did this mission which basically involves hovering around a night map highlighting enemies with your flares to be taken out by heavy guns waiting on a hill.

Brilliant fun, and it looks great, there is a river running through the level, and the flares combined with automatic gunfire combined with exploding enemy mechs all reflecting beautifully is something to behold :o

Think my mind is made up on what RT I wanna be now. I think..........

I was doing this online in Xeres, providing flare support for my squad to show them where enemies were once the commander had got them on radar and to make sure they couldn't hide.

Night missions are cool.

you think flares would work on xbox live?

i would think they would give away your location to the enemy more than givivng their location to allies.

I think flares will work well in Live.

Scout until you find your target, get behind a hill or something then fire a flare up above them, highlighting them to everyone on the map. Unless they are looking in the direction the flare was launched from, they aren't going to have a clue who launched it.

yeah I havent had a chance to try this but i will as soon as i get home but if they work anything like real flares they wont actually light up til after you've fired them and they get a little altitude :)

As a TC I use flares very often.
I use them botht o offer light to the team and to mark myself if I happen to get attacked and need backup. Also if we are up against an enemy on a night mission, firing a flare into the enemy midst can blind them when they use Night vision so this also works really well :)

In multiplayer I use the following for a serious advantage.

Flare_Smoke_Smoke linked to WG 4

The smoke points down and flare points up. I move in and pop 2X smoke and the flare which blinds night vision and eliminated standard line of sight. I then switch on the IR sensor and goto town.

the flares are so awesome and they convinced me to use the scout RT.

i REALLY liked that mission as well. However if you pay attention to what you are playing when you hop into a room it will tell you time of day. I would rather grab night vision (givin to you from sniper4) and go. Thermal works as well but in a large mass of players friendly fire is hard to determine in thermal.... but thats just me.

im going to have to disagree with the guy whos name starts with a "V".
The only real sports are bull fighting, mountain climbing, and GOLF. Car racing is for rednecks

You've managed to disagree with the wrong person...

I remember that mission yeah its a great deal of fun. Honestly I have never seen a single player on live use flares though. Yeah you could blind the other squad, but you would do the same to your own when it comes to using NVG's. Not to mention you can simply turn your NVG's off for a few seconds and simply turn away. Now the only way your own squad would not suffer from this is if they don't use NVG's. SOrry to say, but on live, that would be a mistake. Also in order to mark over the location of your enemies you would have to be pretty close. The idea sounds great but a TC can easily locate you before you'd get close enough to ping the enemy squad.
