Yet Another Delay for Blu-Ray Players, Says Chinese Paper


And the delays keep coming for Sony's Blu-ray high-definition DVD system. China's Commercial Times newspaper is reporting that Sony's production facilities have not been able to meet the demand for the diode that generates the blue laser at the heart of the HD system. Both Sony's own plants and those of Japan's Nichia Corp., the only two suppliers of the diodes, have been plagued by production problems, the newspaper said. The supply problem, it observed, could not only delay production of Blu-ray DVD players for Sony and other manufacturers, but could also delay the release of PlayStation 3 models, now scheduled for November.

Anyway, to the person hoping it won't be $60...it will be. Just the price MS and Sony have to pay for going with ridiculously expensive consoles. (For developers.) Anyway....maybe Sony should completely scrap the ENTIRE Blu-Ray idea and just make the PS3 run on regular DVD's....THEN it would probably kill the 360.

Anyways I think if the PS3 is delayed after the holidays then its died tbqh. My reason is that its going to be a year+ behind the 360 and that will allow the Wii to possibly single handily take over the competition will no new competition. Really I don't see the 360 hurting the wii but I see the PS3 hurting the wii so if no PS3 in 06 then the Wii will takeover the holidays...yea even in America.....

Well, i knew there was going to be shortages because of how production was moving along, but a flat out delay?

That would be a crushing blow and basically Microsoft and Nintendo will be the default winners this gen.

I could say my car is a rocketship. My neighbor can say it's a rocketship. That doesn't make it one, though. All three are video game systems; just because each company doesn't plan on competing with each other doesn't mean that consumers aren't going to have to make a choice.

LOOK; Nintendo said the SAME THING WITH THE GAMECUBE. Sony SAID THE SAME THING with the PS2 VS. the GC. Guess what...regardless of these words, THEY ARE COMPETING.

A gamer will go into a store and have to choose between the 2 systems. That means there is a choice offered. That means there is a competition offered. Unless Microsoft announces plans to purchase Nintendo, then yes, they're COMPETING.

Hey, i believe we all will compared all 3 of them, regardless if they all said they are in their own category.

My point is, Nintendo is trying to do its own thing so they arent trying to topple Microsoft or Sony. They arent going after the same gamers. They are going after different people.

I heard people from Microsoft plenty of times say they are here to take down Sony. Everytime when there is comparing going on, its always compared to Sony. Never do they talk about what they are doing better than Nintendo, or taking cheap shots at Nintendo. They seriously denounce Nintendo. Just like Sony did when they admitted they see Microsoft as direct competiton like 4 years ago, when xbox didnt have a great start but started building popularity. Ive yet to see Sony say they cant shake Nintendo, and how Nintendo is copying them (like how they said Microsoft is copying them). You guys get what im saying?

When i start seeing Peter Moore compare sales against Wii, or mention how 360 titles beat those of Wii titles or whatever, i will change what im saying. When i see Reggie or Iwata mention anything about Microsoft, and trying to take down Microsoft, i will change what im saying.
