I think you need to spend a couple of nights doing some single player missions, try a few of the different role types and see what you like.

Then look at joining a squad (check the squad recruitment forum) and get some advice from them for your preffered RT (role type)

Then you will be better able to ask questions - right now you'd find some of the answers just by spending a couple of hours playing.

Good luck!

Ok, I think that would be a good idea.

Tactical commanders are easily mastered but easily failed at the same time. Alot of the time you will see people actually heading into battleand not even bothering with the NA. Instead they use it alot like an Assist part and only use it when they need to. A commander should have his map open more than 85% of the time. That 15% should be when you are being attacked at your concealed location. I played a bit of Tactical Commander for BgC :D

I think the basics of it are pretty simple. You just hit Y to check the map and anything in your range plus any connected COMBAS towers will determine units on the map, enemy or ally and small ACV's or Hounds.

But being able to be the difference between your teammates (and yourself) living or getting blown into smitherines is where the difficulty will be.

Even then, making a Commander Hound is hard enough as it is sometimes, as I sometimes see it like this:

Anyone other than a Commander mostly is concerned with about:

-Firepower
-Speed
-Cockpit durability

Whereas a Commander can usually deal with:

-NA Range/durability
-Energy Consumption
-Firepower
-Speed
-Cockpit durability
-Assist parts

and maybe some others. I think it's odd when I explain to other squad members that I have to watch the energy reading just as much as the weight, and when your generator is a mix of adding weight and supply energy, coupled with trying to put on assist parts along with the NA Maker, sometimes builds can be complex to figure out.

I find tactic commanders the hardest builds to make, it's the biggest RT juggling act between weight, power, speed, firepower and NA range

I think the favourite TC I've built was a light version on Sal Kar bipeds, lowest NA range but fast at about 190, 4 MG's, AMS, Thermal and even a rotor to help jump cliffs!

Good enough to be a scout/TC hybrid for me.

I had issues with this single player RT until I decided that I was gonna modify my TC and play more up front. The enemy ACVs are easy to take down with sniper rifles and machineguns, so I basically did whatever the mission required me to do to get an S rating, but I commanded from the front and killed as many enemy ACVs myself rather than relying on using the D-Pad to command my squad.

There are some missions where you have to capture all the COMBAs and stuff, so just swap out in the garage to a faster base if necessary.

You'll get it. It's kinda fun once you figure out what needs to be done.

I feel that being the main tactics commander, I can easily create strategies on the fly.

Plus I got four Machines Guns on mine so I can cause some damage too...
killed three CPUs with that one....ahh...I love my job =D

I don't have pic's yet but my most used is burns,c20,matar howies,
2 autoMG's and the smallest NA. takes some finess to use mostly ambushes but real helpful having range finder on your back,
but here recently I traded it in for a drinking bird with 3 300's cannons
small NA and a roto for a spacer it has proved very deadly.
quite a few other, i have more TC's in my assembly data then anything else.

My Tarakian TC:

Meade treads 2nd to largest NA maker. Large Tarakian generator, large Tarakian 'pit, 2 Flanburgs, and 2 mine launchers.

Tac commander is a very interesting RT to play, you have to balence alot
of equations. Your own life, formulating a stragety for beating your enemy, and countering your enemy's moves. It takes a certain kind of person/pilot. Not me That's for shure.

Well a TC is a hard class because in the chaos of battle anything could happen and it's up to you to adapt to the situation and succesfully command and hopefully earn the respect of your squad. Of course in order to do this you must be intelligent.

I really enjoyed the commander missions. The only one I found annyoing was the one with the sandstorm where you have to capture all the COMBAS and take out the enemy before they reach C5.

I didn't think these missions were overly hard so I ranked it medium. This was the 3rd RT I got all S ranks on after Soldier and Sniper
